The City of Bell has made the news for all the wrong reasons! Instead of hearing about political corruption all this time, we should have been hearing about the sophisticated and upscale offerings at Corazon Y Miel. I’ve made the trek to Bell many times in my life with the sole purpose of each trip being the amazing offerings at Corazon Y Miel. Don’t let Subway brainwash you… there is no better use of $ 5 than starting off with Corazon Y Miel’s delicious Dulce de Puerco, which melts in your mouth like candy, in the way that no bacon wrapped date has the right to. I’ve been known to order three courses of this appetizer in one sitting, while still dreaming of a fourth. As an entrée, I wholeheartedly recommend the Sopes. If you’ve never experienced sopes, picture the following: a foundation of fried masa biscuits topped with corn salad, black bean guisado, pickled onions and salsa, with the option to add carnitas or steak. Now imagine the perfect fork-full containing a bit of each, and you’ll immediately understand my five star rating. Wash it down with some creative cocktails or with the most amazing Jamaica you’ve ever had, and make sure your navigation system has this Bell locale memorized, because you’ll be back!

Cute place and definitely popular. Reservations are recommended for brunch. My chilaquiles weren’t the normal chilaquiles… They have a spicy and yet tangy sauce with a fried egg on top. The huevos rancheros were a lot different than the standard Mexican dish but it was delicious and if you can’t handle spicy food then you will definitely need to try something else or keep several packets of sugar nearby. The French pressed coffee was very smooth and balanced… the liquid sugar made it even more so delicious.

This place is amazing. Very intimate restaurant with a unique selection of food, craft beer and personalized drinks. I highly recommend this place, specially if you are trying to find a genuine restaurant away from the local hype restaurant that doesn’t even compare to Corazon Y Miel.

Solid drinks, good food. they are very stingy(even though you are charged for it) with their bread. Service could be better. we were told there would be a wait, since we had no reservation, then seated in minutes. I would go back for the food and drinks.

well, another adventure I guess I should keep it in perspective, since it was Bell that would actually make it a pretty nice place for the area! in any case, met a friend here for drinks and a bite the reviews for the place looked pretty good, ratings 4+stars, so we thought let’s give it a shot parking was a bit of a bitch, so just opted for valet service in an overcrowded lot really makes the valets earn their money playing tetris with all the cars! restaurant wasn’t too busy, I think the crowd was gathered at the sushi-fusion place next door, which we will give a try next time we got a nice cozy booth, the décor in the place was actually nice and inviting my friend started with a tequila type drink, infused with… sorry not sure, but it came to us smoking, literally, for the infused flavoring. She enjoyed it, I didn’t try since I despise the taste of te-kill-ya I just went for the Anglo American Brown Ale, was a decent draft beer we order the foie gras toast to start, the waitress said it was great… can’t say it was very good, but I suppose if you’ve never had good before, you would not know the difference. It was a pretty thick«pâté» type slice served on a thick piece of grilled bread, I believe preserved apricots on top and covered with arugula? presentation wasn’t too visually appealing, looked kind of like what I feed my pups, but thankfully did taste a bit better than it looked we then went on to try the dulce de Puerco, or bacon wrapped dates. These were pretty good, as all things with bacon usually are. we also ordered a salad consisting of avocado slices, some greens and roasted octopus. this was tasty as well, the octopus had a nice char, and the avocados were nice and creamy, I think they were actually fried briefly? second round of drinks, I had the same beer, she opted to try I think an old fashioned, Mexican style? again, she said was pretty tasty, but I passed since it was te-kill-ya again! we added an order of ceviche de Corazon to our bites, and this came out in a nice sized bowl, accompanied by some tortilla chips. It was good, not memorable, but went well with the drinks. on to deserts and round 3 of drinks. Boring me, another of the same beer, she tried the Hot Toddy. This one I did try, nice and warm, was a nice finishing drink to the night. for desert, we ordered the ninos y bunuelos, which were fried bananas with ice cream, and a cinnamon dusting similar to what you find of churros. It was great, the bananas had a nice thin coating of dough before they fried and the cinnamon flavor came through beautifully. We also had Capriotada, which was their version of bread pudding… ok, but would have been better off with 2 orders of the fried bananas! total for 3 rounds of drinks, some eats, 128 bucks(not including tip), a little pricey I think for the area, but the décor and company made it worth it. not sure I would come back, but maybe for a couple drinks and some of those bacon wrapped dates? Again, it is a nice place considering the area, but I think a bit overrated on Unilocal.I would maybe notch up to 3 ½ stars, but think it falls well short of 4 in my opinion. if you go, don’t forget Unilocal check-in, gets you 25% off a small plate! …oh, wish they would have given me a copy of the receipt when I paid, it would have made this write up a bit easier!

So we had a bit of everything. Queso Fundido, dates, ceviche, bacon wrapped jalapeños that was to start. For dinner we had ox tail and ribs. My favorite was the dates. My goodness it was orgasmic. My second fav was the fondue. As far as dinner I would recommend the ribs. They literally melt in your mouth. The ambiance was great. Service was amazing. Totally a five star.

I like this place. Go there or not go there, what do I care, I don’t know you. Food is good though and they have a gringo bar tender from New York, he makes pretty solid drinks. The house drinks are nice as well, not my style but overall I enjoyed them enough and my G/F loved them; she likes sweet drinks so… Now the food, it was good, pricey but I don’t mind, place is trying to be upscalish so all good with me. Try the lamb chops, super good.

This place is a bit pricy, felt like I was in Hollywood but I was in Bell? the food is good. My first time having Mexican Cuisine like this. We ordered one beer, salsa Verde cocktail(spicy!) and used the Unilocal deal for 3 appetizers but it only applies to one the bill was $ 53! A bit steep for me considering we got no entrees. I wanted to try the Pozole but I couldn’t bring myself to spend $ 18.50! Plus $ 3 to park? When did the city of Bell get so upscale? If you got the dough go for it!

There is no signage lit up at night, so this place was hard to find. But I’m so glad we found it. The service was great and the food was excellent. I wasn’t even craving ceviche but I’m so glad we ordered it. The roasted nuts gave it a really good smoky flavor. We also ordered the lamb and the asado negro. Loved the flavors in both and the meat was cooked really well. The drinks were delicious as well. They weren’t too sweet, and you could definitely taste the alcohol. We ended up spending more money than we expected, but it was definitely worth it.

Never would I have thought there would be such a great restaurant located off of Atlantic blvd in Bell. Appears a little hidden or more so doesn’t standout out much in outer décor to catch your eye when driving past but once found, you’re in for some good grub from this restaurant. Me and my friends had arrived 45mins before the kitchen had closed(Thank God!) so we quickly viewed the menu and began ordering plates to share. We ordered four dishes that came out one after the other leaving a nice small gap to enjoy each. The foie gras, pan fried chicken, lamb rib chop sope, and the barbacoa was that nights selections and I was pleased with all. The foie gras had good flavor of both the duck and chicken liver. The pan fried chicken was very flavorful with the lentils and yogurt bringing more flavor to the meat. The lamb rib chop sope is arguably the best sope I’ve tasted. The masa for the sope tasted fresh with a nice crisp to it and the lamb chop was very delicious. A combination that I would have never thought would pair so good. The big winner tonight was the barbacoa which I had my heart set on due to one of my friends who swore by this dish stating it was the best barbacoa around and his statement was true. A nice portion of beef with a broth that had an awesome lime flavor. I also really enjoyed the veggies that was cooked in the broth. The half of onion provided in the dish had so much flavor that I wanted to call the server over for another piece but I knew that wasn’t happening LOL. I really enjoyed this restaurant and it was an excellent choice that actually came last minute on a Saturday night. Next visit will be brunch for myself as I read is pretty good. Dinner 11÷7÷2015

I STARTEVERYRESTAURANTAT5STARS Don’t bother making reservations. Just show up because either they don’t know how to schedule correctly or they can’t keep to their schedule. It was pointless making reservations. Seems that they have a difficult time if you show up with more than 4 people. Pre-Pre: Made reservations a week ago. Showed up 20 minutes early. Seated 50MINUTESLATE. UNACCEPTABLE. MINUS1STAR(should be –2) FOOD: Although my dish was tasty at first bite, it was cold 3 or 4 bites in which sucks. When I asked the others in my group… Same thing. MINUS1STAR The SOPE was hard like a mofo. Next time, don’t bring me a knife, bring me a chainsaw. MINUS1STAR I could go on but I won’t because I want to like this place so I’ll stop here. Customer service was good and I could tell that they were trying. This place is just not equipped for more than 3 or 4 guests at a time. I will go back eventually but only as a party of 2 because it seemed like most folks were enjoying their food. I will review you again… (Drinks are good)

I spent $ 330 dollars, $ 75 was spent on food and the rest was drinks. Walked out of the place sober. The bartender had the nerve to come out while I’m walking to my car to ask me about the tip i had left. Literally the most embarrassing moment I’ve ever had in a restaurant establishment in my life. Dont come here if your a 15% tipper. Or just don’t come here at all.

Corazon y Miel is located in an unassuming brick building in Bell. I didn’t expect to see a restaurant of this quality on Atlantic Avenue. Brunch is tasty. Mimosa brunch is tastier. I’d recommend bringing friends and trying everything on the menu. Do be aware, there was a slow turnaround time even thought the restaurant was sparsely occupied.

Food here at C y M is similar to Bar Ama. A contemporary mix of Mexican, junk food, food truck cooking w/a bit of molecular touches to show that the kitchen is capable & aware. I suppose this kind of food especially resonates well since in the last couple of decades there’s been a slow tilt toward noshy, tapas, Izakaya small plates. True fine dining w/all the bells & whistles only now exists in such venerable oases such as Patina, Piccolo. 1) Dulce de Puerco: A riff off an old college frat party food where you stuff an almond in a date, & wrap it with bacon & put cheese whiz on top. Only difference is that the aged Cotija cheese is foamed into some whipped cream to give a light yet funky aged cheese smell. It’s a rather heavy dish since the date is a dull, pasty sweet, the bacon fatty & unctuous, the aged Cotija piles on more old scents & flavours. There is no refreshing relief so for me one Dulce de Puerco was more than enough. 2) Street Corn Salad: When I went to Mexico boiled corn on the cob was slathered w/either butter or mayonnaise then sprinkled w/dry Pico de Gallo powdered chile. C y M’s style corn kernels were similar w/mayonnaise but w/the addition of pickled acidic red onion slices to contrast to the oiliness of the mayonnaise. Unfortunately there was no addition of the dried Pico de Gallo which would have awakened the corn flavours. 3) Ceviche de Corazon was the best dish that we ordered. Plump shrimp, chewy octopus was in a savory lime juice inflected brown sauce that may have been an Umami filled soy sauce like Memmi, a Japanese Sho-yu/soy sauce that has bonito broth to achieve a more meaty Umami. Lime juice really gave off a limey, citrus oily scent that really upped the seafood & lent a fragrant gastrique to the Ceviche sauce. Accompanying Totopos/fried tortilla chips added crispy crunchy texture when eating the plumpy shrimp & octopus with a chaw. 4) Asado Negro were three thin beef strips roasted a long time so the meat & fat became meltingly soft. It seems to have a spice rub incorporating cocoa so the vague flavours seeped into the meat as it roasted slowly. The meat was placed on top of the grits sprinkled w/a watery demi-glacé sauce & fresh Italian parsley. A slurry of fermented red bell pepper had a bit of sourness to enliven the long cooked beef. It was a nice exercise in getting elements of South America &US Southern onto one dish, but $ 22 for this dish that only included 3 thin strips of beef was a bit exorbitant. About 3oz of beef for $ 22 is equivalent to about $ 117 per pound. I guess this restaurant is counting on the fact that people under 40 can’t do the math. 5) Chilaquiles can be breakfast food for Mexican families. Left overs from the night before can be incorporated & the tortillas from the night before can be dipped into enchilada sauce, salsa de chile Colorado or even salsa verde and baked in the oven. The Chilaquiles de Jabali adheres to those principles but the diced meat is Jabali/wild boar. Basically it’s like a Ragu di Cinghiale/ragout of wild boar that is spaced into the layers of tortillas dipped in a salsa Colorado. Since the tortillas seem only to be dipped into the sauce, it remains rather dry and a bit chewy. The wild boar meat & black sesame seeds are scattered here & there. Perhaps a bit of Cotija, mozzarella, even more crema Mexicana in the dipping salsa may have added a deeper, more rounded flavor to the baked tortilla. As it was, the tortillas were rather lifeless & dull flavoured. It seems that addition of cubes of raw jicama, thinly shaved radish, cilantro was to lighten up the dish, but it wasn’t enough to offset the heaviness. 1−5a) To pair with all the above, our waiter suggested the Stone Delicious IPA/India Pale Ale which had a higher hops content for a green herbal bitterness along w/a fermented slightly«diaper pail» sour aromatic & back drop of sweetness. 5) Capriotada is Mexican bread pudding, thinly sliced fanned pear that may have been soaked in sweet agave nectar, candied walnuts in piloncillo/brown sugar, a very dense Crème Chantilly/whipped cream w/a caramel sauce squiggle. Surprise element was a scattering of red pepper kernels releasing an aromatic smoky, acidic, resinous flavor to offset the smooth, sweet notes including the soft, dense, lightly sweet bread pudding. It was a nice contrast of tastes & made for a unique dessert. How much this version of the dessert harks back to the original, I do not know, but there was more than enough for the 3 of us dining together. C y M’s light brew coffee w/nice bitter undertones made a good pairing to the sweet dessert. Our waiter originally from NYC was helpful & pleasant, and another dark haired gentleman w/luxurious facial hair carried over an extra table so we could place more dishes comfortably & brought us various dishes explaining them when we asked. 3+ Unilocal stars for good service but so-so food.

I am born and raised in Latin America. I came with high expectations because I have tried much of all latin american food, and when you do that, you fall in a state of comfort. I wanted out of that comfort and a new perspective on these familial tastes, but I don’t think I got there. Food was great, but not mind blowing. Antojito 1 — Ceviche de Corazon(small $ 8) shrimp, octopus, burnt peanuts, house tortilla chips. Notice the ceviche does not have fish, i was disappointed. The dish was almost like a diced cucumber salad with chunks of shrimp and super thinly sliced octopus, wish they had been chunkier, it felt almost nonexistent — I thought it might be the famous Corazon y Miel dish they were known for when I bookmarked it, but it wasn’t. I was told they no longer make that dish. Boo. The ceviche came with house tortilla chips, nada especial. I liked the dressing/marinade, pass the recipe? Antojito 2 — Salmon Belly Ceviche $ 12. This is NOT like the first ceviche, honestly the name is deceiving and you should always ask for descriptions of the dishes in case. It is a dry dish. It was sliced raw salmon belly(think sashimi) coated in a creamy citrus dressing, placed on a big curved tortilla chip, with sliced avocados underneath and greens on top. It was a light dish as well although it doesn’t look it. It was A-OKAY. Yes, I could eat it again but no, i would not order it again. There wasn’t anything too creative here in terms of flavor, just putting ingredients from different cultures together without marrying them does not a new dish make. Main — CHURRASCO $ 22. The trip went from Mexico, to Peru, to finally end with Argentina’s culinary pride. 8oz angus culotte steak, house chimichurri mignonette, and a ton of papas fritas. Okay, this was the best dish of the night, although the churrasco/chimichurri was very salty(typical Latinoamerican) the steak was tender and so soft and juicy. Perfectly grilled and well rested. It was a large portion and definitely good to share when you have the antojitos.(even though it doesn’t say«Good for 2» like the other meat dishes). There was at least 3 potatoes worth of papas fritas, why so much? thank you but maybe put some sort of tiny empanada or patacones in addition(whatever happened to the use of plantains?!) so as to not drown solely in fries. They were excellent fries don’t get me wrong, excellent. But too much. Eye catching, but presentation overkill. Cocktail 1 — Muerte Dulce $ 10. Joven Mezcal, Cardamaro, Lemon, Hibiscus Syrup, Lavender. Ahh, it was almost like a thick citrusy daiquiri. Felt a little heavy, not too strong, fruity and refreshing but not light bodied. I liked it, definitely go with citrussy drinks if you’re eating so much fat. Cocktail 2 — Michelada. Sangrita, chilli lime ring, Modelo Especial. The bartender said they make their own sangrita which was interesting to learn. But i did not enjoy the michelada. The sangrita ingredients include worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, pineapple/orange juice, tapatio! and other. So imagine the salty and spicy michelada. Not my thing really, but my friend liked it. Not her best ever but in the top 5 perhaps. No comment on that haha, I rather have the cocktails or a torrontes. Which reminds me, the two drink menus we had were different. Consistency? Service was kinda BAD. Came in with reservations made on Unilocal(We were on time) and waited standing near the door for about 5 minutes before the overly busy hostess(waitress/insert any other duty here) came to greet us. She made us wait another 15 minutes(turned out to be 20 min) before being seated. My answer to that is NO. There were empty tables too. I found out later that the kitchen could’t keep up with the demand(there was a large party celebrating) and told the hostess not to sit anyone else for the time being. The hostess plays a huge part in the flow of the restaurant; fire and hire please. There’s a reason for reservations too. Overall, food was good, creative but not palate blowing. Maybe I came biased. But that should be your goal Corazon y Miel. To bring the known to the unknown. Atmosphere, okay. Loud-ish, enclosed and no buffer for the echoing drunk talk(lots of alcohol flowing, the bar was unstoppable). Edison lightbulbs add a nice touch. A little darker would be more romantic. Where was my flickering candle? Just a thought. Valet was $ 3. I’m sure there was a lot of parking around the block but $ 5 on top of it all, might as well. t

Met Robin Chopra, mixologist extraordinaire, at an event months ago and had been wanting to try this place ever since. My thoughts, ITWASFANTASTIC!!! Had a group of 5 and the only reservation I could get on Saturday night was at 5:30pm. Parking: They have valet parking for $ 3. There was some street parking, too. When we arrived, 2 members of our party were already seated. We had a great booth near the back for our party. Its a smaller intimate restaurant and the clientele was made up of dates & families. There is also a long bar(it was empty when we arrived and full when we left). My friends had already put in their drink order, but we were greeted quickly and placed our drink order. There was already water on the table that had been infused with fruit. Awesome. FIRST, let me tell you that the cocktails are Amazing. Better than the high end places on the Westside, yet priced reasonably. I got to try quite a few items on the drink menu and they were all WONDERFUL. My favorites? Borra-Chata: Horchata with rum. This was DELICIOUS! Its a bit filling; reminds me of egg nog & brandy Pelon y Beso: SPICY! Salsa Verde: Refreshing w/a kick. El Bombero: its like a witch’s brew with the Cinnamon Smoke Muerte Dulce: Sweet and Very good. My husband claims his Margarita Rosa was the most refreshing by an order of magnitude, BUT I didn’t try this, so I cannot vouch. As for the menu? Not a single dish disappointed our group. There are only 2 categories for the food: EXCELLENT&VERYGOOD EXCELLENT: Ox Tail: so flavorful and it went so quickly at the table Ceviche de Corazon: Tender octopus and I LOVED the addition of burnt peanuts Market Fish– the salmon was prepared perfect Avocado Frito Queso Fundito: Big Hit Jalapeño y Tocino Costillas-so good, my party ate the whole thing and I didn’t get a bite. Boo. Burrata Y Tomate: I loved the spices they added to this dish Diosa Verde: Brussel sprouts & cauliflower prepared perfect and the addition of jalapeño was great Dulce De Puerco: bacon wrapped dates are everywhere, but I loved the addition of the whipped cotija Ninos Y Bunuelos-fried bananas!(I’m already a fan) Capriotada-bread pudding Very Good: Boca Negra-rich chocolate Salmon Belly Ceviche Borrego-very salty We were sad that they were sold out of the Barbacoa, BUT this gives us an excellent excuse to come back. EXCELLENT Food, EXCELLENT service &REASONABLE prices; hence, 5 stars!

My first time here was for a special, one-night only taco tasting collaboration between Corazon Y Miel and Guerrilla Tacos a few months ago. But, I knew I had to return to try their regular menu. So on a recent Sunday I came back for brunch(which is only available on Sundays). I was contemplating a couple of items when the server told me about a new special, a 12-HOUR BEEFBARBACOA. She added that it was a big dish, served by the pound! So I skipped the regular menu again and got this. Out came a big bowl of tender meat in a rich broth with parsnips and all the fixings on the side(tortillas, lime, onions, cilantro, etc). It was absolutely amazing! And a great value too at just $ 20, plus it ended up being two meals for me. I packed the bowl contents in a soup container and asked for a box for the sides. My server told me it would be even better later and she was right on again. The additional time marinating in the juices made it impossibly better. Warm, friendly service! I do recommend coming here with more people so you can share dishes.
