Calabar Imports

This location opened last fall to winter as a pop-​up location and I was joyfully able to get multiple holiday presents there as its conveniently in my neighborhood. I was truly happy to see that they are now here for the duration as they have a variety of jewelry, clothing, bags, and books from African and African-​centered artisans and fashion designers, many of which are surprisingly affordable.
The bad thing about that is my wife now expects regular gifts from there. But that’s a good problem to have!
They aren’t open everyday, but you can catch them Thursdays to Sundays, and sometimes on Wednesdays as well. Their window always looks wonderful, so you can’t help but look! The owner and staff are also very personable and open to you gazing among the plethora of items in anticipation of returning.
I’ve known about and shopped at their Crown Heights location over the years, but am now elated the Bed-​Stuy one is a local fixture.
