Sadly, not much to see here. Much of the area is overgrown with trees or is now a farm. The coolest thing by far is the history provided by one of the plaques. As a war between brothers, officers on both sides often personally knew one another. After a successful raid, Confederate General Fitzhugh Lee left his Union opponent/old friend General William Averell a message taunting him to ‘return his visit, with a sack of coffee’. After the battle of Kelly’s Ford, Averell gave a sack of coffee to a wounded Confederate officer he left behind, with a message stating«Dear Fitz, Here’s your coffee. Here’s your visit. How do you like it?» Did people use the slang«burn» back in the mid 19th century?
