As their name suggests, the Perk Up Café is one of the perkiest cafes I’ve ever been to(and I’ve been to a lot lol)! I’ve passed this place a few times, but this was my first visit. I’ve had it on my to do list for a while because it’s so cute on the outside, and I’m a sucker for local coffee shops. Finally, one day the stars aligned and I was in the neighborhood with some time to kill. I wasn’t really hungry, though, and already had my cup of coffee for the day, so I went in not really knowing what I would order. As I was looking through the menu and at the pastries in the display case, a very cheerful and exuberant guy came over and greeted me. For some perspective, it was about 8am on a Monday morning. I was a little taken aback by his energy, but found it pretty refreshing at the same time. He asked me what I was in the mood for, and I said maybe a pastry, and he proceeded to tell me everything that he had in the case. Everything looked really good and fresh, but what he finally sold me on was the«cruffin.» It’s a kind of unassuming lump of bread that seems to be eclipsed by the danishes and scones, but is definitely a star in its own right. It’s a clever hybrid of a croissant and a muffin, so very flaky and buttery and delicious. I sat and hung out in the café for a while admiring the décor. Bookshelves with dozens of different books; unique antique pieces everywhere; a classic quaint kind of vibe. They also have wifi, which made it great for knocking out a little bit of work I had to do. So glad I finally found the time to check it out, and can’t wait to be back again and try out their coffee and other foods.

I’ve been coming here since they opened and must say they have the best coffee in town. Besides the coffee, I admit to eating here(either breakfast or lunch) 2 – 3 times a week. Food is great, coffee is better, definitely one of the best places in town.

This is one of 2 coffee shops in Bayonne. So I will say that coming from New York my standards maybe higher… It is an adorable place, definitely a staple in the local community. Almost everyone was greeted by name and a catch up conversation followed. The neighborhood loves this place for sure The serve sandwiches, pastries, and make all kinds of coffees and teas, I believe that make smoothies as well. They also provide catering to the area. My issues with this establishment, 1. There is no outlets for public use, none. Not one. So if you are use to the New York City way of plugging up and marinating in one spot for hours writing your screen play, or newest chapter in your detective novel, it ain’t happening here. 2. The pastries where left open with flies buzzing on and about them… GROSS OTHER then that, this is a cute and adorable stop.

Quaint and cozy place with good indoor seating space with 2 outdoor tables. I stopped by here while waiting for my car at the nearby Firestone. They have a good selection of and cold beverages(loved the Raspberry Iced Green Tea). They have cool artifacts and distractions(like a early Mechanical Adding Machine, Old-style Safe, lots of books). Overall, a friendly, well staffed place. Sadly I was there to work, but I’m going back for sure. They might benefit from adding more and better seats outside(suitable for work).
