Beware the roaches. I’ve sat there drinking and seen one climb the wall, fall down, start over, fall down, and disappear. Now, I understand restaurants have such problems but, it was enough to kill it for me. Prior to that I loved the food. But how can I think about anything else. Nice staff but maybe it’s time to rethink the DIY ticket shtick and clean the kitchen. No? Okay.

George’s tagline is «We are different. For a reason.» Yes they are. The focus here is purely on the food. It’s counter ordering and you pay when they call you back up to get your grub. There’s nothing fancy about it but I love it. To me it’s perfect in all of it’s unpretentious and laid back awesomeness. The burgers are the best I’ve had in the area. I love the thick, hand formed patties topped with pepper jack cheese and grilled onions and mushrooms. They cook them to order(as they should) and always get my medium perfectly medium. The other thing that really stands out here are the ONIONRINGS. Theirs are perfectly cut, seasoned just right and have the perfect batter to ring ratio. Look, I’m a bit of a weirdo when it comes to onion rings and if they are too soggy, too thick, too greasy or even too thin I’m not ordering them ever again at said restaurant and might just cross them off for any future visit entirely. Yeah, I know. But I love onion rings fiercely. So if you like them like I do, try George’s. I think you’ll agree. Prices are reasonable especially considering the portions here are very large(I’ve never been able to finish more than half of my burger and always bring it home for dinner). I will definitely return over and over anytime I’m in Baton Rouge. Shoot, I’m thinking an onion ring road trip is even in order now. Who’s with me?

The prices on their web site are wrong, I found that out the hard way when I ordered a $ 9.95 shrimp and Steele’s vegetable and then when I got there to pick it up it was $ 12.95. They weren’t too thrilled when I showed them the web site price. And they did not give it to me for the advertised price. Not cool. But the food taste good.

Amazing Club Sandwich and Hamburgers! Great prices too! Nom nom! When it’s been a rough week this is my go to for comfort food.

Disappointment of disappointments. I recently ordered a take out burger because the reviews gushed about how the burgers were so great… I don’t know how people like their burgers down here… but where I’m from, bland and tasteless does not a good burger make. The burger was not seasoned and overcooked, the cheese tasted cheap and the tomato was over-ripened. The fries and onion rings were equally bland and tasteless, but on a good note, I ordered and paid for a small and if actually received a small serving size, the small is HUGE. But it’s still a huge portions of tasteless fries and onion rings. I really wanted a great burger… I didn’t get it here.

Great hole-in-the-wall feel as soon as you walk in, with plenty of large and small tables to accommodate your party. Their menu will appease all appetites, but be prepared to wait a few minutes as everything is made-to-order out of their kitchen. I prefer their daily specials, which are always a great bargain and leave room for dessert… or another beer! They have bottle/can-only beer selection, which isn’t too extensive but they have definitely have ‘something for everyone.’ All in all, love the ambiance of this place — keeps me coming back.

World renowned poet Trinidad James once wrote: You from the Eastside, then throw it up You from the Westside, then throw it up This is the Southside and we showing up I’m not that familiar with what geography has to do with vomiting, but this George’s is on the Southside and it is definitely showing up as far as quality burgers are concerned. The original location of George’s under the interstate is one of my favorite red stick restaurants. It’s everything I want in a burger joint. It’s old, dark, divey and although it appears sketchy, the food is legit. Surprisingly the Southside George’s has done an excellent job capturing everything I love about the original. Ordering is done at the bar. The menu is posted in a giant chalk board above where you order. I suggest you try the burger po-boy, cheese fries and onion rings. The rings are hand cut and among the best I’ve ever had. These cheese fries are loaded with melted cheese and jalapeños and are also among the best I’ve ever had. Both are offered in small or large portions, but the small is enough for two people to split. The burger po-boy is great. If you think a plain burger is the bees knees, put that bad boy on New Orleans style French bread and watch what happens. Prepare to have your mind blown. George’s uses the right bread which makes all the difference. The burger itself isn’t some fancy blend of whatever the blend burgers with, but it’s homestyle and exactly the way I like it. Service is friendly, but the only real interaction you have with employees is when ordering. You pay upon pick up at the bar and you’re expected to get your own utensils, napkins, etc. that doesn’t bother me, but if it bothers you, I’d look elsewhere. If you’re in the mood for a good burger, check out Southside George’s.

Small joint located off highland road. The service was quick and friendly. Good place to enjoy a home style hamburger. The fried mushrooms were delish. You order and pay at the counter. I thought it was unique to have the customers write down their orders. Prices are decent. When we went the dinner crowd was just exiting. There is also a room to the side with arcade games.

Friendly, efficient service, decent food & atmosphere, at reasonable prices. I opted for the Swiss/avocado burger and shared some fries & onion rings with my dining partners. Not the best burger I’ve ever eaten, but certainly above average, and loaded with fresh avocado. Great fries and even better onion rings. We had a birthday in our group, so took advantage of the chocolate lava cake, with a scoop of ice cream. Yummy! I didn’t get a chance to try a beer from their adequate selection(business lunch). Next time!

Going to George’s, I had high expectations after reading Unilocal reviews. I was definitely disappointed with my meal. My husband and I got a bacon cheeseburger and New Orleans roast beef poboy and split them. They were just ok. The cheeseburger was kind of dry and it was overcooked. I had heard that their burgers were great so this was the biggest disappointment with our meal. The fries were not very good either. The NO roast beef poboy was the best part of our meal but I’ve definitely had better. I may try going to the other location to see if it is any better since there are so many good reviews on Unilocal

My husband and I live close by here and ordered take-out. The batter on the shrimp was very bland and the texture of the shrimp wasn’t right — they seemed old. Very disappointed and unimpressed. Buffalo wings sauce was tangy bordering sour and the batter on those was also very bland. Bleh! Won’t be back.

Took the wife and kids for a casual dinner. A few observations: 1) The burgers are bigger than you might expect. Really a pleasant surprise. Cooked well, juicy. could have been seasoned a little more, but the wide selection of Louisiana Hot Sauces they offer fixed that! 2) If you order the large onion rings, you better really-really-really like onion rings, or you better be planning on sharing with the table. The order is HUGE! Ditto for the fries. Both were well-prepared, but — as with the burgers — they would have benefitted from a little bit more seasoning in the kitchen. The atmosphere of George’s is a refreshing change from the run-of-the-mill chain restaurant. This place is funky and has a charm and personality that’s becoming less and less common. So: Go there!

Definitely NOT like the original! Went this past weekend and the service is not as friendly and the food isn’t as good. Overcooked, thin hamburgers and the dregs of the fry basket that should have been thrown out an hour earlier. Disappointing.

Everyone in Baton Rouge has their favorite location of George’s, but no one can deny the food is great… even if the owner tends to be a DB! Friday is my favorite special… thin cut fried catfish with fries and cole slaw. The fish is so thin that I simply cannot eat catfish any other way after this dish. I’ll say there are a few other items that I definitely suggest to anyone browsing the extensive menu. The hamburger club is my BF’s fav… think club sandwich but with a hamburger bun. When I’m feeling healthy, I order the low carb chicken plate. Grilled chicken breast topped with grilled mushrooms and a hearty side of steamed veggies. Last but certainly not least is the hot dog. And before you think it’s just a regular ol’ hot dog, I’m going to stop you! It’s a LARGE grilled hot dog served on a crisp bun… so much better than anything my mom ever made when I was a kid. I don’t think this is a great place to get your drink on, but for a great lunch or dinner spot, it’s a winner!

It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it’s much bigger when you walk in. Order at the front and then pick a seat. They have a bar and good selection of beers as well. I ordered the California BLT. My only complaint would be that the bacon was not cooked quite as much as I would like to be, but it was still pretty good. Also, if you love lots of meat on your sandwich, this is definitely the stop for you, but I do not particularly share that opinion and so I ended up taking some of the bacon off. Apart from that, it was very good. I highly recommend the sweet potato fries. They were hot and crispy!

I’m marking this place as a regular visit for me on Thursdays — the Crawfish Étouffée special is phenomenal. Combined with an order of boudin balls, you’ll be full for a week. Food came out pretty timely(although my app came out with the meal, but whatever), service was nice, beer was ice cold. Definitely a fan.
I live near this restaurant and my son who is 5 loves hamburgers. He wanted Wendy’s and I talked him into going here. I should have taken him to Wendy’s instead. I went in at about 1:30pm on a Saturday 6÷22÷13, place was dead. Hardly anyone there, maybe 5 patrons there. I told the young lady at the register that i had never been at this location before, I had been at the other one on Perkins a year ago. We were looking for a good burger. The first problem was that they don’t have a kids cheeseburger on the menu. They had a kids menu(chicken fingers, catfish and something else) C’mon, your big draw are the burgers and you have a kids menu, but no burger? So I ordered an adult burger for my son. I ordered the shrimp Po Boy. The menu said fried, I asked to get it grilled, the girl just looked at me, the bar patron said«you can get anything grilled if you ask for it», so then the young lady said, sure. I should have left at that point but I’m glutton for punishment, so I pushed on. Everything here is Ala cart, I ordered fries to go with my kids burger and then the young lady behind the register said their Onion Rings were the best. So I ordered that for my side. She told me I pay when the food was ready. So we went and sat down in the porch area, ten minutes passes and they call me. I go up and she says it’s $ 30.65. I’m thinking WTF did I order? I look up at the menu board and sure enough fries and onion rings come in two sizes, small and large. I didn’t know that, my mistake, the waitress was nice enough to ring me up for two large plates. Stupid me, I’ll know better next time. I get my food I sit down, my kid is starving, he hones in on the fries and his burger. First thing I notice my shrimp po-boy is cold. The bread is cold, the shrimp is luke warm. The fries were almost cold, and the onion rings? They WERE cold. But my kids burger was hot and fresh and he didn’t care. I didn’t want to rip his food out from under him and take it back and wait even longer. Yes I could have taken it back and demanded new food, but try convincing your 5 year old that. Again shame on me, at this point I’m thinking, Wendy’s would have been better, at least I knew what I was going to get there. I went back up to get a refill and the young lady asked how was everything. I told her the fries, onion rings and my po-boy were cold. She offered to get me new food, but I told her that wasn’t necessary, they should have gotten it right on the first try, they weren’t busy, there was no excuse to serve cold food. She then proceeded to say, «Sorry, maybe they got a bit rushed back there» I’m thinking rushed? How? There’s no one here! Then she continues to say«Next time they’ll do a better job, I’m sure of it» That’s reassuring. Meh! To top off this miserable experience, we went into the game room and it was HOT in there, no A/C at all. The games were old and lame and expensive. We drop 75c on one run of Fast and Furious and then left. I’m sorry, but this place is for the college kids and the retired crowd that went to LSU. Save your money and go to Dempsey’s that place rocks. They take care of you and the service is prompt and the food is good. Never had a problem there. George’s should send their staff over there to learn how to take care of customers. I realize some people go here and love it, maybe this was a one off experience, but know this, if you walk in this place and there’s less than half a dozen patrons, just turn around and leave, you’re gonna get cold food and bad service. If they’re busy, I’m sure they’ll be better suited to give you better food and service. George’s management or ownership if you’re reading this, you should visit one of your own establishments on a weekend to see how it’s going, maybe fix some of the flaws. I’ll only go back if my kid or my family take me. I won’t go again on my own steam.

I really Really REALLY needed a good meal after our weekend of debauchery in Nola. This place definitely hit the spot. Bring some tums though, after a heavy meal such as this, things are bound to get funky… if you know what I mean *.^ ps. also like the level of trust in paying for your food when you get it, rather than beforehand. Something about that just rubs me right.

Great casual place to watch the game and eat a Po-boy. I recommend the roast beef!
