We stopped by just before closing on a Saturday. The selection was still great. We bought several dozen doberge and petit fors to bring home to the Grandchildren Gambino is one of a kind delicious!

NOT worth the money! Been buying and eating king cakes for 50 years– this is the most overpriced EVER. They charge $ 6 more for a «stuffed» cake, so I got a cream cheese filled. Well filled it it’s not. Was really blown away when I went to the counter with a strawberry cream cheese filled and the clerk said«the double stuffed cakes are $ 24.90». Well I’m glad I changed to the single stuffed for $ 18.90, but wish I would have got the plain for $ 6 less, since it basically had no stuffing Oh it had about 50 cents worth off cream cheese in it. The cake part was good, but several local grocery stores are good and you get stuffed with 1 or 2 add-ins for about half the cost of Gambino’s. Their employees must get their pay docked if they actually put filling in the stuffed cakes

People that work there are so sweet and the cakes etx are so delicious! If I could eat a damn petit four everyday, I’d bet them from there! Their red velvet is some of the best I’ve had as well. The store itself is a little run down but don’t let that fool you. Go check them out!

I ordered my wedding cake from Gambino’s and I could not have been more pleased! The staff were extremely friendly and professional(especially Ash, so adorable! I love her!). They did not try to up-sell us on the cake, and in fact offered cheaper alternatives(for example, fondant icing is completely unnecessary where regular icing will do, and dramatically makes the cake cheaper, yet still beautiful!). Our cake was beautiful, and looked just like the picture. And beauty aside, it was delicious! Like most wedding cakes, I’ve been eating the left overs for days, and its still just as moist and tasty as the first day. I cannot speak for their other baked goods, but their wedding cakes(at least ours!) are delicious and beautiful. The staff is helpful and approachable, and the store itself is clean and inviting. Would definitely recommend to other brides and grooms to be.

So not worth the money or the hype. This bakery does not compare to Baums or Ambrosia’s. The people were nice, but the baked goods aren’t any different than Walmart’s bakery. If you want a specialized cake, um… I’d look elsewhere.

They totally screwed up our wedding cake that had been ordered months before the day. They were rude and dismissive about the whole situation. I will never go there again.

Baton Rouge is filled with excellent bakeries, including those in grocery stores but my favourite is Gambino’s mostly because I live in New Orleans, where this bakery originated. When I could still afford to ship king cakes to friends, I always had them sent from Gambino’s. The standard never fails here.

I’m from Los Angeles and lived in BR for a year. Simply put these cakes are better than anything I’ve ever had. I’ve never been a big fan of wedding cake but the one they made for our wedding was fantastic and when we went to pick it up and they didn’t have it ready yet, they delivered it all the way to Diversion Canal which is quite a drive. Amazing cakes and baked goods, I would trust anything that they make.

I have used Gambinos for years & years & I have always LOVED their king cakes. However, I recently went to the Gambinos on ESSEN Lane…(previously called Cake Palace). After looking at the cake once I got to the car. I went inside & inquired if this was«THE» GAMBINOS. and they confirmed it was. All I can say is that this location must be owned by a new group of folks? Honestly the WORST king cake we have ever had. My family literally ate a small slice & then I had to throw it away. Dry, Small, very little icing. it was supposedly chocolate cream cheese… HORRIBLE filing. I usually ONLY write good reviews but I wish I would have known before I bought here. Won’t be back to that location for sure.

Originally, I thought my friend was crazy. Why did we have to ship a cake from Louisiana to Houston when there are plenty of good bakeries here? But after tasting the King Cake and Doberge, I was sold. And the first time I tried their almond cake, which I’m told is «Wedding Cake» in Louisiana, I was truly a fan. Schlepped in a car, this time, nearly 6 hours across state lines, and it was still fantastic. So when I was able to go to the bakery in-person for the first time, I was truly a kid in a candy store. So many items that are unique to Louisiana, chocolate-dipped things, bite-size items that are less guilt-iinducing. So many choices! Try the almond cake, or just about anything else here. You can’t go wrong.

I ordered a double-chocolate king cake for Mardi Gras delivered to East Texas, and it was the best king cake my wife and I have ever tasted. However, I must agree with emily c. that Gambino’s makes the finest doberge cake I’ve ever tasted — in fact, I think it’s the very best cake I’ve ever tasted from a commercial bakery. I recommend you call a day ahead and pre-order that Doberge cake to make sure it’s available and ready for you. If you are traveling, you’ll need to keep it cool until you reach your destination. Mail orders are expensive(next day via FedEx), but well worth it, IMO. If you need an exquisite desert to really impress someone, this is a great place to start.

Gambino’s makes the world’s best doberge cake. Hands down. I can never decide between the lemon or the chocolate, so I usually end up with a half-and-half, or just some individual squares of both. If you want to taste the most delicious cake in the world, you have to try the doberge at Gambino’s(even if you’re just passing through town)! Mmmm!
