Best fried seafood platter I’ve ever had! Great flavor and everything was fresh and hot!

Completely amazing! Better than the Denham and Gonzales location. We had the Landry platter… Mmmm. Apparently this is the only location you can get it at. The bartender made us a cocktail with makers mark… Absolutely delicious. This location will have my business for years to come. The manager was very friendly as well as informative. She let us sample the boiled crawfish and told us about a special they had on Tuesday night for $ 1.99 a pound. Wow! We enjoyed this place tremendously. We will defiantly return. I believe we may have our tournament baseball team awards night here. Their party room can fit 100 people, maybe more, it’s huge! I’m not sure what else you could ask for in a restaurant. You have to go check it out for yourself.

Folk’s please just drive on by!!! As a Stone Crab Captain from Florida, my wife and I know great seafood and this ain’t it. The seafood platter had 4 fried shrimp, 1 stuffed shrimp(cold), 2 oysters, 1 hushpuppy(cold), a few catfish pieces and slaw that was hotter than the fried food. The fries were the highlight of the evening, but I didn’t pay that amount of money for fries. My wife had the Landry platter and it was just as bad except for the gumbo which was horrible and tasted like thin burnt cooking oil. I have never written a bad review, ever, until now, on any site, but this place needs serious help. Forgot to mention the 10 minutes we sat at the table before anyone even acknowledged we were there.

Having grown up in BR Dons was always a favorite, even ate here in 2015 prior to an LSU Football Game. Stopped in today with my wife and sister in law. They share the Landry Platter and I had the ½ Shrimp Étouffée, ½ Fried Shrimp. Everything was mediocre at best. The fried shrimp were less than popcorn size and the shrimp in the Étouffée we’re like miniature. The Landry was very plane and Gumbo was over flavored and very dark. When we are here last year everything was great, fresh and delicious. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of the times and just an off day for a great establishment in BR.

Food and Service was good but the place smelled horrible… And the food was over priced. I expected it to taste way better for $ 30. Overall it was an okay place. Not top on my list of favorites.

The cajun ravioli was absolutely delicious. My fiancée got the catfish acadian and said it was great. The service was very good and the restaurant is beautiful. I loved the family pictures on the wall. If we lived in the area, we’d be back again.

Salty, overpriced. And poor service. Would not recommend! I would D skip this joint and head to another.

Not a bad place but there are better places in the area that are priced WAY better. The food is pretty good but not the best.

I remember liking Don’s as a kid, but haven’t been in years and finally ended up at the old location on Airline last week. We picked this spot specifically because it had some mention online of being dog friendly, and because of a car-breakdown we were stuck with our pup and hours to kill. True to the reputation, the hostess told us our dog would indeed be allowed to dine with us on the small patio(had some shade, but I wouldn’t recommend choosing patio on a super sunny day– we were lucky with some fall weather). Our server was Shay(Shae?) and she was fantastic. She was prompt, super friendly to us and our pup, and stayed late with us chatting with my mom about her own dogs since we were her last table. Loved her– would ask for her again. The food was also completely pleasing: We had fried shrimp and catfish(even the hush puppies were flavorful and perfectly fried), and a salad/bisque combo that was really delicious. Because we were there at lunch time, the prices were reasonable, too– and we all left quite full. You know, I even adored their brewed unsweet tea– Perfect. Thanks so so much, Don’s, for taking good care of us when we needed a safe haven and some good grub.

Everything was excellent! Ordered off the lunch menu, enough to have left overs for our supper! Started with hush puppies! Can’t go wrong there! ½ fried crawfish tails, ½ crawfish étouffée…Great seasoning, not over POW! Lunch menu seafood platter, excellent variety! Always a favorite!

I hadn’t been to this Don’s location in a couple years, and remembered it being really good. Fast forward to last Wednesday evening, I’ve been bragging to my co-pilot, who is from OK, about going to Don’s for dinner. We get there, both order a cup Chicken and Andouille Gumbo. The rice was way over cooked and the gumbo was very very thick, almost like a gravy. I’m from Houma, LA and know what good gumbo is; and this ain’t it. He ordered the fried catfish dinner, requested extra crispy, and I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp with the étouffée topping. The catfish was rubbery and not crispy fried at all, even after my buddy ordered extra crispy. The shrimp, however, were so crispy they were damn near burnt/crunchy. The étouffée was obviously frozen and tasted very old. We told our waitress about the catfish being rubbery and soft so she had them make some fresh catfish for us which were the exact same as before. The catfish tasted like they had been fried earlier in the day and then thrown back in the fryer when we ordered it. It’s a damn shame because the Don’s in Lafayette is pretty good. As an update: The manager of this restaurant called and was very very apologetic about our experience and offered to make it right on our next visit. We’ll give it another shot next time we’re in town and see how it goes.

We went for beer and apps and were not disappointed! Local beer, Jacked up oysters, Boudin balls, Red beans and rice and our fave fried gator! Yum!

My family and I are from out of state. We tried this restaurant due to the positive reviews, but I was disappointed. The customer service is great, but the food did not taste all that great. This was my first time trying gumbo, and the flavor was not good. I like the historic scene of the restaurant and cleanliness.

Crawfish delicious, the chargrilled, & jacked up oyster’s are to die for, voodoo shrimp, fried shrimp the list goes on. Happy hour margaritas 2 for 1(everyday). No complaints here everything was delicious food/drinks and service with a smile. Will be back!

The WORST service EVER! Lack of enthusiasm for job period! Took 55 minutes at least to get served Luke warm food, never rcvd tartar or cocktail– which being seafood should be on the plate! Server was more attentive towards a five top vs a two… just absolutely horrible!!! Who likes cold fish and how long does it really take to fry fish and shrimp?! Will not be going back! Hostess too busy texting, servers on cell phones, just poor poor service!

Since this was the first time I’ve ever been in Louisiana I wanted to sample some of the local Cajun/Creole food. After pouring thru reviews both here and on TripAdvisor, I asked a local and they recommended Don’s in Baton Rouge on Airline Highway. Very close to where I was staying.(No New Orleans this trip.) Started with hush puppies and boudin balls. Both really good and recommend them. Then had the seafood combo sub red beans instead of fries, add on cup of chicken and andouille gumbo. The combo included some shrimp étouffée that I liked but have never had any others to compare. Combo was what I expected of a fried seafood mix. Nothing spectacular but not disappointing for $ 17.99. The chicken and andouille gumbo tasted a bit like spicy canned meat. Not worth the $ 6.95 for a cup on the menu nor the $ 3.50 add on. The red beans I liked. They were smokey and meaty with a little heat, but I again don’t have anything to compare them to. The gumbo, red beans, and étouffée were all served with rice Overall not bad. The food was good enough. If I was in the area I could see coming here again and tasting some of the other items on the menu. Plus happy hour 2 for 1 drafts, margaritas, and bloody marys all day everyday isn’t half bad! Wanted to add that I went at about 4:30pm on Sunday. Service was fast and the waiters efficient and friendly.

Two people, 2 for one Margaritas, two appetizers and two entrée’s for $ 100.00. Overpriced for the distinct lack of quality. Took two tries to get properly steamed vegetables. Twice baked potato tasted like it was made last month and then frozen and thawed in the microwave. Fish was not anywhere close to blackened. If you go, stick to the fried food. It is the only thing they do well. Will not be going back.

The service is always friendly and the food good. I’ve always been here with big groups and it’s never been a problem for them. The restaurant has been here a very long time so I appreciate that but wish they would update the atmosphere a little bit. There are a lot of great seafood restaurants in Baton Rouge and I understand the competition is tough, the food is always good here but it’s not my favorite place in town. I think it’s because I don’t eat fried food and they don’t have as many unique grilled/blackened options as I’ve seen at other places. I will definitely visit again and update my review.

I had the opportunity to meet with the owner and he is one of those guys that really care about his family’s business. He took the time to share some insight on the business and his life. Who does that? Not many! But here – every customer counts! I had oysters for the FIRSTTIME and they were good. Try them jacked up. The gumbo was full of meat and flavor and the eggplant is different but worth a try… I liked it! It’s stuffed with goodies! To wash it all down try the swamp water. It had a kick to it. Not sweet like most drinks! If you want good service ask for Tommy! He is nice and isn’t afraid to smile and go above duty. Very glad I stopped in for round 2!

My father always raved about this place. I even inherited the cookbook he bought in the 50s. Crab and shrimp Bienville was delicious, and stayed for homemade cream cheese cake with blueberry compote. I waddled out very happy. Service was friendly and helpful at the bar. Thank you, London for helping me ruin my waist line!
