Okay, we order take out for the family meal. It was 11.95 per serving it was supposed to come with soup and eggroll. So the whole thing cost us about 23.90 without tax. Now mind you I am older and my appetite has diminish quite a bit. My daughter does not eat much either, when we got home to have dinner — I kid you not it was the size of a LUNCH dinner. There was one styrofoam cup of soup, two packets of soy sauce one little bitty, tiny plastic container of duck sauce for the eggroll that wasn’t there, two scoops of white rice and a fortune cookie. The food was nothing special, not terrible but not good either. It was so-so. The won ton soup was very salty and for the price it was not worth it at all. I had called to complain about paying for a family dinner and getting a lunch special but the woman that answered the phone(I really don’t know if she was on this planet or not) kept telling that they had no family dinner, no family dinner on the menu, she didn’t know what I was talking about but then it dawn on her that maybe I wanted to order the family dinner and then she was eager to take my order. Don’t go there it is not worth the drive, the food was average, the portions are extremely small and you don’t get what you pay for. You get a luncheon plate for just under 24.00 dollars. The ambience — really — it’s right off highway 71 it used to be a Greek place that went out of business then a Coffee Dog shop that closed. People just wander in and plunk right on down. Nothing special to warrant that kind of pricing. Do yourself a favor and take the drive into Austin if you want Chinese food. Hunan Tiger is not the place to go .

I got food poisoning from this restaurant. That should be enough, but the food was bad, too. My partner had pork-it was over cooked, dry, hard, and covered in a gloopy, neon sauce. I had beef and broccoli-the sauce was too heavy and too salty. The family was really nice and friendly, so it’s a shame the food was so bad. We won’t be going back.

Really good food we had the Chicken Fried rice and beef seshwan(sp?). The peanut sauce is really really good — spicy.

I’ve been here 3 times total. The first was at lunch during the week and had General Tso chicken because it’s my fave. The lunch special was 6.95 I believe and was just enough so that you aren’t stuffed when you leave. The taste was fine, nothing mindblowingly spectacular but definitely better than anything else in a 20 mile radius. It was good enough that I ordered it again the last time my wife and I visited a few days ago. Lunch comes with a small bowl of soup, velvet corn soup which is basically egg drop soup with corn and isn’t bad, hot and sweet soup which is my favorite and wonton soup which is also really good. Of the 3 times we’ve been, their egg rolls were great the first 2 times. The last time it was too greasy and had an odd taste like the oil they cooked it in was old or WAY too hot. Their Spring Rolls were really tasty but don’t expect them cooked. I actually prefer them the way these are done. Raw ingredients except for the meat… but my favorite thing they offer here is the sauce the have on the table… I don’t know what it is but I get a taste of figs and pepper and IMO it tastes awesome. The only bad thing is that last time they didn’t have it on the table but I didn’t ask for it either. All in all, definitely worth a visit and you might really like it. Next time I’m going to get something different… something off the Vietnamese side of the menu which to be honest isn’t very descriptive and doesn’t have many options. Most of the options I’ve seen were soups… great for cold weather but a steaming hot bowl of soup is just about the last thing I want in a 100+ degree Texas summer day.

OK– So went back to check out the food, and was appalled at what was put on my plate. The worst, most God awful food I have ever had! One bite had me spitting out the rancid beef and broccoli that was burnt, tough, and smelled bad. My friend also took one bite of her food, and was scared to eat any more. We did not eat anything else and could not wait to get out of this horrible place. Whomever thinks this is good food is out of their mind!

What a relief to find some good Chinese food close to Bastrop. We’ve tried a few entrees to date from them, and they are spicy(as advertised) and hot. Husband loves their soup! We’ll be returning!

Decided to give something new a try today and stopped at Hunan Tiger. Glad we did! We definitely have a new place to add to our Bastrop/Cedar Creek rotation. We ordered the steamed dumplings, spring rolls, chicken and broccoli with corn soup, and Mama’s chicken with wonton soup. Dumplings: Really good! We’ll get them again for sure. Nothing spectacular but decent flavor and the dipping sauce was the perfect balance of soy sauce, rice vinegar and chilis. Spring Rolls: Eh, we won’t get them again. Pretty much tasted like shredded iceberg lettuce with a few shrimp and noodles thrown in and wrapped in rice paper with a very average peanut sauce. Spring rolls are hubby’s favorite asian fare ap and he didn’t even eat a whole one. Enough said! Corn soup: when they say velvety, they mean a sort of slimy, gooey, velvet texture to a corn flavored egg drop soup. The flavor was really good so if the texture doesn’t sound off-putting, give it a try! We liked it :) Wonton soup: the broth was excellent! Great flavor development and not too oily as so many are. The wontons were pretty average and the wrappers were a little thick for my preference but I’ll get it again next time. Chicken and broccoli: nice pieces of white meat chicken in a delicious brown garlic sauce with big chunks of fresh, bright green broccoli. Really, very good. Nothing gourmet, but far superior to anywhere else this side of Austin. Came with fried rice which was, eh, average. Mama’s chicken: Awesome! Pieces of what meat chicken(only place in Bastrop/Cedar Creek I’ve been to that you definitely recognize the meat as chicken!) tossed with water chestnuts, Chinese cabbage, and bell peppers and coated in a spicy brown garlic sauce. I devoured it! Yumm! Service was average, portion size was good and it was a great price at $ 25 for everything plus 2 iced teas. This isn’t going to win any national awards for best Chinese food in the world, but, definitely in the running for best of Bastrop County! I’m excited to come back and try the Vietnamese selections.

Great food. Tired of the same Mexican food and Jack-n-Box give Hunan Tiger a try. Prices are reasonable too.

I will say that I’ve come in a few times since it’s so close to home. The food is not bad but the service SUCKS. Half the time, the waitress sits on her butt. The only waitress I have ever had that is prompt and friendly is Teresa. And forget about ordering extra anything. Once, I asked for extra rice(that I was happy to pay extra for) and never got it. When I asked my waitress about it, she said the cooks in the back give them a hard time about ordering anything extra. When I looked at my ticket, they had charged me for it! I decided to try the delivery service and 2HOURS later, I still hadn’t gotten my meal. Want to know why? Because someone wrote my address wrong. I called 3 times to check my delivery status and at no point did they think to recheck the address… Don’t expect much from this place.

I eat a fair amount of Chinese food at various places around the Austin area. My go to dish is beef with broccoli or vegetables. This was my first time at Hunan in Bastrop. Service was polite and helpful. I ordered Beef with vegetables in brown sauce substituting fried rice for white rice. The overall taste was good and didn’t seem to have the high amount of salt that a lot of Chinese food seems to have. Vegetables where cooked just right and had a good fresh taste. Beef was a little tougher than I would like. My dining partner had a Vietnamese dish she said was very good. I am thinking their Vietnamese offerings are better than their traditional Chinese choices.

Bastrop is in dire need of something in addition to microwaved Mexican enchiladas and fast food hamburgers. Thank goodness for at least one other option! Hunan Tiger holds its own with many of the Asian restaurants in Austin. It’s nice to be able to get Phở and Bun without driving far. The Chinese options are decent and the staff may be a little quiet at first but are very nice.

I thought it was great fast food chinese kind of thing. Reminds me of a place in Pasadena CA called Eggroll Express.

Stopped by for takeout, got the sesame chicken and dumplings. Host was very friendly and helpful. Food was ready in less than 10 minutes and tasted great.

Food was pretty good, I got my meal to go. Service wasn’t terrible, but not great. They are the only place close to me that serves phos so I’ll probably go back.

Sorry guys, but the food is just passable. Same quality as a food court asian restaurant. Service is not terrible, not particularly great. Ambiance is pretty bad since they kept the murals from the old Greek place. I’d keep looking.

I could tell when I got the«standard» 200+ item Chinese menu that trouble was in store. WHY don’t restaurants get that 12 items prepared superbly with fresh ingredients is a better plan? I ordered the Phở — their special and it was good, not great. I will try again, but would love to see them pare the menu to what is doable and FRESH!

The best Chinese spot in Bastrop but that doesn’t say much bc the other place is incredibly awful. Food is respectable but nothing beyond that. Worth the try since the only other option is driving 45 minutes.
