Mira Monte Inn

Great place to stay! Staff is very friendly and helpful! Very quaint rooms. Cheese and wine in the evening. Very short walk to downtown!

We had a very nice stay this weekend. We were greeted by a friendly person, given a tour of the property, and shown our room. It was tastefully decorated with a nice bathroom including a whirlpool tub.
They have complementary wine and cheese in the evening. The breakfast was great.

We stayed here for two nights. We stayed at the Holbrook the night before. That was great compared to this place. Check in was like a Chinese fire drill. It was like we surprised them that the 6 rooms we were occupying arrived. The rooms were nice but kind of dated. Clean but tired. The food was ok but not great. Just no energy to the place. We felt it was like we were a bother being there. Needs an update and more upbeat staff.

We stayed there for 4 days and was satisfied. Interiors are described well in previous reviews yet I think they furnished the place well and OK. Some rooms are updated Victorian some seemed kept in 1970’s (depending on he room you stay). To my honest view they shop’d in GOODWILL. Lamps, painted white dresser & side tables. White wicker headboards all I’ve seen in SAlvation Army stores types. SOme room have antique Maple dressers/​cabinets/​tables tho.
They do have LG flat screen TV/​remote and alarm clock …
Some of the Inn-​keepers are friendly some are rude…
We thought its the NYC, MAss. MAine attitude. or simply str8 forward answer that make you feel dumb. Some of my companion even thought they were RACIST.
They (everyone who works there) do need to brush up on 21^st century hospitality and guset service in this kind of industry.
Breakfast served between 8am to 10am includes coffee, milk, orange juice, selection of teas, 2 types of muffin daily (blueberry, cranberry, poppyseed everyday varies), omellette (2 types), brown boiled eggs ??, yogurt, cottage/​cream cheese, mixed fresh fruits, some days they prepare upon request blueberry pancakes/​waffles, selection of sliced breads. and make sure to try the apple/​walnut cake squares… small fridge for guest eat out left over and they have a toaster oven 24hrs use .
Afternoon wine and cheese tasting thing special… a cheap cheese and 3 un-​labled wines… must be from Walmart types.
I suggest they place a black-​board for the breakfast menu, label or place the wine bottles during the afternoon wine tasting. Asking them will get a rude answer (like don’t bother me attitude).

This is our favority B&B in all of New England.
We stayed at the Mira Monte again this year — for something like the 7^th year. we used to stay at another nearby Inn, but it got too NY and too pricey just as the breakfasts got terrible. We’re glad to have switched.
The inn has lovely rooms and also a separate building with suites if you need more space and want to do a little cooking. We have stayed in those when we wanted to do a lot of hiking and have early breakfasts.
The breakfasts are different every day, and thoroughly delicious. I really loathe places that serve the same breakfast every day. The steamed eggs were so smooth it was amazing! And I also love the eggbakes and the variety of muffins offered. The fruit salads and melon are also much appreciated. The coffee is the one shortcoming — it’s weak. We actually travel withour own small pot and fresh coffee, so that’s not a big deal for us.
There is a wine and goodies hour from about 5−6pm, when usually the owner is there ready to discuss just about anything. She’s lived on the Island forever, has been head of the Chamber of Commerce, is a chemical engineer by training, and takes no prisoners — all while being extremely gracious. The other guests are also usually quite interesting to get to know.
The special treat of the Mira Monte is the gorgeous garden in the back — still in full color of blooms even on Columbus Day.
The Inn is close to downtown — we walk to dinner every night. Also close to the Island Shuttle, so in season you can park you car at the Inn and ride to anywhere in the park for hking, and just enjoy being there. Highly recommended. Not in expensive, but you feel like every penny was well spent.
In addition to interesting off-​season specials, the Inn also treats returning guests very nicely.

This adorable little inn just outside of the center of town served all of our needs beautifully for our weekend get away.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. The woman who worked in the evening gave us a little tour upon our arrival. The next evening she was able to speak knowledgeably about local restaurants both from personal and guest experience. The woman that checked us out the last morning could have been a little nicer, but she certainly wasn’t rude or cold. The owner is a little spit fire of a woman who has lived on the island her whole life. She can talk to you about when the leaves turn, the history of the sea life and all the attractions Bar Harbor has to offer without batting an eye.
The hotel itself is fairly typical with traditional flowery wallpaper and various antiques everywhere. Fortunately, none of that is over done to the point of being sickening or stuffy. I actually found the mish-​mash of pieces quaint.
And then there was our room. Balcony, wood (okay, fake log) burning fireplace (okay, stove), two person jacuzzi tub and king size bed. It was everything we had hoped to get out of a room for less than we expected. Many of the rooms have at least one of these amenities, if not all. My only complaint is really that I wish the bed weren’t so firm — I had to keep turning in the night. There’s a common fridge in the dining room if you care to leave leftovers or chill a bottle of wine. There’s also a piano for common use.
Breakfast buffet in the morning was mind blowing. Different pastries, a different egg bake each day, blueberry muffins. The coffee was very good. And you have to try the steamed eggs.
For an added bonus, check out their special in early May. I believe it’s stay one night, get the second night free the first three weeks of May when you bring a $ 35 check made out to Habitat for Humanity for each of your «free» nights. You even get the credit for the donation. Free night, beat tourist season and be a good dobee? Score!

We had a terrible experience with the innkeeper here. As a seasoned b&b traveler, I was shocked by the lack of hospitality and just plain rudeness as it is unlike anything I have ever experienced. We began with a slight dispute about the confirmation policy and proceeded to be treated like most unwelcome guests, to the point where the innkeeper called our room to yell at us in the most unprofessional manner.
Quaint, affordable b&b’s are too plentiful in Bar Harbor to waste your money here.
