One of the best hamburgers of my life. They make their own brioche buns. The entrees are a little on the small side so save room for dessert.

I am a little surprised by the overly impressed reviews this establishment has received. This is a very tiny place with a limited menu. Don’t expect to find what they have listed on the website. We came on a Sunday afternoon for some lunch and many things were sold out. The burger we ordered was cooked nicely but VERY small for the price. Everyone was OKAY with the food they had ordered but not pleased. Some things lacked flavor. We ordered some pastries to go that were very good and definitely the reason to return. It would be hard to find such quality pastries anywhere near this location. What really bothered me was the service. There is no table service. You have to order at the counter and food is brought to you, slowly and not all at the same time. It is definitely a casual spot and not for families who want to eat together.

Just returned from a visit to Red Devon, a restaurant that was always enjoyed in the past for their delicious and juicy burgers. Unfortunately, the place has changed. Burgers were dry and the meat tasted nothing like it had in the past. We ordered Swiss and cheddar cheese, but could barely taste the cheese, yet distinguish the difference. The burgers also took a long time to be prepared(requested medium, but tasted and looked more like well done). Overall, not worth the 50 dollars for 2 tasteless burgers, 1 order of fries, and a root beer.

Food is good and I want to like this place but they obviously need better help and/or a better system for service. After ordering my latte and some baked goods, I waited over 20 mins for them to give me the baked goods(mind you nothing was cooked– it was all grab and go). During this time there were only 3 other customers who came in and they all experienced the same level of ridiculously slow service.

An overdue update here: unfortunately Red Devon hasn’t been doing the dinner thing for a while now. The market and café still serves breakfast and lunch, and there is a rumor that the bar will be open on weekends.

Amazing and delicious, everything they make is just perfect. Beautiful surroundings, this place is always a pleasure. I had a scrambled egg with mushrooms and Gruyère cheese there and still dream of it. I highly recommend for anyone who wants healthy, tasty local fare.

I was extremely disappointed when going to the RD. Their restaurant and bar isn’t open so it is a very poor choice for anything other than coffee or a breakfast sandwich. I was over all put out at their selection, it just seems like they’re copying the more successful gourmet markets in the area with out any original ideas of their own.

The food product is above average. Servers show in difference yet use social politeness. There is no competition within the area which is why The menus stays so limited.

Quaint little bakery and café. Nice please meal in nice garden porch. They have a small market with some limited local fares. A large bar and restaurant area was closed but is about to open soon.

Had breakfast/brunch there this morning and I did not like my omelette. It was rubbery and tasteless. My friend said her eggs and salad were nothing special. The side salad for my omelette was served on a saucer and was about 2 mouthfuls, mistake for looking for future business. Stingy. The service was fine but I cannot recommend this place, NYC prices, undistinguished food. I bought Gluten Free crackers from their market for my eggs because there was no gluten free bread which i understand, but they doubled the price of what it costs in the supermarket. Really! The market has a display of prepared food and bakery items, mostly of which look like loving hands at home. Someone there needs to be a bit more professional in the kitchen.

I ate there for the 2nd time and found it to be very disappointing. The first thing that caught my attention was the single droopy flower in a little vaselet of slightly brown water. Yuch! We had to ask for more bread and then we had to ask for butter to go with it. My pasta was unamazing. My previous experience was fried chicken but when the skin came off the chicken underneath had very little flavor. That time I had apricots with cream for dessert which were unripe(should have been slightly stewed if unripe). The Sunday night service was so-so. We left without having dessert. My opinion is that it is a restaurant with New York City prices but not NYC food– nor service. It’s a shame because you have high hopes walking in as the ambiance is very lovely. Too bad what you go there for is not.

Unless you actually live in Stanfordville, NY,(and no one really lives in Stanfordville, NY) you likely have no reason to go there except for Red Devon. And that is reason enough. Don’t even think twice about driving to the middle of nowhere, for this restaurant you’ll happily drive 3 hours past the middle of nowhere. When we sat at the table in the middle of the beautiful dining room, Melissa and I decided to start with a cocktail. We both order the Aviation which consists of Ethereal Gin, Luxardo, Crème Yvette and fresh lemon juice. They were fantastic, nice and tart. The great thing about their bar is that most of the spirits are local(tri-state region) and the mixers are made in-house whenever possible. It is the freshest drink you can imagine! Because we were there for Restaurant Week we have our choice of about 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts from a special menu. Because I am a bad food blogger, I neglected to take copious notes, so we’ll have to depend on my memory from here on out. And because I was experiencing a foodgasm through the entire meal, it might be a bit tricky! My appetizer was the Charcuterie Plate with house-made pates, cured meats, cheese, cornichons and crostini. I am fairly certain I didn’t even speak to Melissa and Justin during this course! Melissa has a salad with arugula, fennel and dried cranberries. Justin went for the cavatelli with wild mushrooms. For our entrees, Melissa and Justin both had a roasted lamb with gnocci. The meat literally fell apart and melted in your mouth. I’ve never had lamb that tender or delicious. The gnocci were the exact perfect texture. I have to admit I felt a pang to jealousy. I opted for the pork, it was seared with a nice crust on the outside, just slightly pink on the inside. It was served with a side of grits that made me a fan. It was definitely the first time in my life that I wanted more grits! While we were waiting for desserts I started chatting with our waiter. He was eager, enthusiastic and clearly loved food. He was a Culinary Institute of America student and it was clear that he was learning as much as he could from the check on his trips into the kitchen! If the first part of the meal had given me a foodgasm, dessert was the handsy post lovin’ cuddle. Justin had a house made gelatto, which I believe was caramel flavored. But I could have cared less about what he had, because what I ordered was so stinkin good. Melissa and I both chose the cinnamon roll bread pudding. Yes, a cinnamon roll, made into bread pudding, with that sugary, sweet frosting drizzled over top. I had dreams about that bread pudding for weeks.

I thought about giving a 4 star review, but it deserves 5, so I gave it! This place is a bit off the beaten track, but the drive in is stunning. The grounds and building are beautiful, much more impressive than the pictures show– and the interior is equally so. We were greeted and seated promptly, and drinks were delivered — off to a great start! Menu was interesting, but not wacky, which I appreciate. I went with the fried chicken — fantastic. My husband had the scallop app, which we both wanted more of, I forget what he had for dinner, but he was happy as could be(might have been duck). We shared dessert, which hit the spot. The wine and beer selections were spot on and we were not left with empty glasses(a pet peeve of mine). Service was timed perfectly — we never had to flag anyone down, they were mindful of us and attentive, ergo, 5 stars. Ambiance, food, drink, service — superb. And a completely reasonable and fair price, IMHO. But wait, there’s more: we got a tour of the market and breakfast area by Richard, the General Manager, who spied us peeking in and indulged us — it took the experience even higher and it was greatly appreciated. Bravo! Or perhaps Brava is more appropriate, Chef.

A warm, inviting, sustainably minded and very solid restaurant offering local sourced food in smart and creative ways. Fellow Unilocalers described this restaurant as one of the top in the area — I agree 100%. A perfect night out. Do not hesitate to drop into the well stocked bar for a tasteful scotch and appetizer. Do not hesitate to book for a family celebration — ask about the back room. Do not hesitate to support locally minded restaurants. Details: Charcuterie plate was modest with a good range of raw milk cheeses offering interesting contrasts and a good start to a meal. Salads are simple, elegant and appropriately work tastes of fennel, arugala and cranberries together. Recommend pork, lamb and seafood dishes. Desserts — and especially home made ice-creams — are worthy of consideration. Portions are European and a welcome treat to over-sizing found in other restaurants that focus on quantity in place of quality.

Pitch perfect in every way! That’s the five word summary of our visit to and dinner at Red Devon. One of the highlights of our trip to the Hudson River Valley earlier this month. And but for Lydia L’s recommendation, this wonderful place would not even have been on our radar. Thanks to her! It’s so nice to have smart Unilocal friends!!! The morning after our dinner at Red Devon, as we four who ate there were walking across the Hudson River pedestrian bridge, we were still talking about what a great experience we had at Red Devon. Superlatives were flowing like the river below us. With so many things about which to be enthusiastic at Red Devon, it is hard to know where to start. But you have to start somewhere, so… here goes. 1) It has an UNPRETENTIOUS«ALLAREWELCOMEHERE» VIBE. 2) SOMETHINGFOREVERYONE between breakfast or lunch in the café(or on the wonderful wrap around porch), the market selling local products and great bakery items, the bar for libations(after 6:00 p) and the restaurant serving incredibly good dinners. 3) TOPNOTCHSERVICE from market through bar through restaurant. 4) It is FORMMARRIESFUNCTIONDESIGNPERFECTION,; from the green building focus to how the exterior design ties in with the farmland setting to the seamless UNIVERSALACCESSIBILITY making entry easy for people of all ages and physical ability. Interior design is crisp and casual in the market, warm and wonderful in the restaurant dining room.(Did I mention the great porch yet?) 5) The market and the restaurant both have a sustainable agriculture, «FARMTOFORK» FOODFOCUS supporting artisan food producers in the area. 6) The restaurant WINELISTOFFERSGOODWINEAT A FAIRPRICEBYTHEBOTTLE.(Interestingly, by the glass prices seemed«highish», bottle prices not.) 7) The HOMEMADEPOTATOCHIPS in the bar«rock». Seriously. 8) RESTAURANTSERVICEWASPERFECT, as provided by the professional and charming server Ben.(Thanks to the customer in the market who said«Ask for Ben.» ;-)) 9) RESTAURANTTABLESAREWELLSPACEDFOR«BREATHINGROOM» for all diners… no «sardine can» seating here… hooray! 10) DINNERMENUISCREATIVEANDTHEKITCHENEXECUTION S STELLAR. On that last note I’ll offer that we four had a marvelous meal. My girlfriend said her fish(haddock) and chips were absolutely THE best she had ever eaten and she literally ate every morsel. Her hubby chose the braised short ribs, one of the daily specials, and did the same. My hubby chose gemelli with pesto and perfectly ripe little tomatoes which was addictingly good. My seared scallops served atop linguine with a lemon and tarragon sauce was easily one of the best scallop preparations I’ve ever had. The bread served with the meal was wonderful.(House baked?) Dessert choices of local cheese plate with berry confiture and crostini and a bourbon pecan ice cream were also delicious. For the high quality of the food and preparation, the wonderful setting and the top notch service we thought this was a good value. A bottle of good champagne(as recommended by the bar tender), four entrees, three desserts and three coffees came in at about $ 175, tax included. If only we lived close enough to go back for breakfast and lunch… and dinner too! Our one regret of the evening was that we didn’t retrieve the camera from the car to take photos of the warm dining room with the beautiful dinner time lighting and the fireplace aglow. TIP: Many bakery items in the market are half price right before the market closes at 6:00. Go buy some bakery treats and stay for dinner which starts at 6:00. How convenient is that? SUGGESTION: The bar doesn’t open until 6:00. We wish the opened it at 5:30.so those who arrive early for their 6p reservations can sip a libation… and eat the bar potato chips… while they wait. Red Devon is on our list of most memorable dining experiences. If you go, I bet it will be on your list too.

I have yet to find a fault with Red Devon. I have been there several times or have had take away from there and each time it has been wonderful. The food is consistently fresh, tasty and obviously made with love. Today after strawberry picking, The L. and I stopped in for lunch. The outside walkway area was brilliant with red poppies blowing in the breeze and the landscape with lush and verdant. An Arcadian Paradise if there ever was one! It was nice to be recognized by one of their super nice staff members since we are not there that often. I had two small slices of Kale and Toma Celena Cheese quiche which was really good but the crust-the croûte!-was simply divine. A little French lentil salad on the side rounded out a delicious lunch. For dessert, which was forced upon me, if truth be told, was RD’s in house made cream cheese cake. Probably the best I have ever had. Good thing we did not get the whole cake because it would be gone and I would have had to jog home. Red Devon is a gem. I strongly encourage a visit there as there is lots to do in the area to make the trip worthwhile(Wineries, Scenic backroads and quaint towns)).

Everyday at 6:45am and 3:35pm, I drive past the Red Devon on my way to and from various job sites. I’m a carpenter. An honorable profession some may say, but certainly not a lucrative one. I build the houses for the rich folks who eat at Red Devon while sustaining myself on egg sandwiches and budweiser from Sonny’s down the street. Entrée’s hovering around the $ 30 mark are out of my financial reach. Enter Hudson Valley Restaurant Week. Time to take off the camo and put on a collared shirt! Red Devon prides itself on maintaining a high quality establishment serving seasonal ingredients acquired from local farms. So the pork I ate? Yeah, that came from Tivoli. The produce? Ulster County. How about the butter? Ancram. Even some of the liquor is distilled locally! All of these locations are within fifty miles of Red Devon. Pretty damn impressive. But you know what is really, really impressive? Finding out the bartender makes a mean Cornelius Applejack( ) Manhattan complete with homemade bitters. How many restaurants use bitters, let alone make their own? Probably the best money I’ve ever spent on a cocktail. For the most part, the meal and service was on point. I thoroughly enjoyed the cured meats and local cheese, the tiny balls of savory spaetzle, the perfectly cooked homemade pasta and the delicate desserts. My main dish, the stuffed pork loin was good, albeit a tad overcooked. All of the portions aren’t of the gigantic, chain sized ilk. The courses are properly spaced, allowing for a pleasantly non-rushed meal. When it comes down to it, Red Devon is goddamned expensive. But, you get what you pay for: finely prepared food using fresh, local ingredients complete with fine ambiance and excellent service.

This place is amazing! Not only does Red Devon support everything I believe in, but the food is awesome too. The vast majority of the food is made in house, from the bread to the charcuterie to the ketchup and mustard. Did I mention how delicious it is? The atmosphere is really comfortable and relaxed but they are still able to maintain a fine dining setting. The dining room is not over crowded and the wait-staff provides remarkable table service.

Red Devon is housed in the«greenest» building you could ever walk into. Solar panels on the roof, low-flush toilets, a geothermal heating system, eco-friendly cups, organic, organic, organic. I made the trek to horse and farm country to get lunch at this restaurant/market. I ordered a sandwich with spicy hot sausage, sweet barbecue sauce and onions. The sausage was tasty and I liked the contrast with the sweet sauce. After lunch, I ordered a hot chocolate and read a book for a little bit. It felt really relaxing. Every sausage, every salad, every cured meat is made in their kitchen. I also came here hoping to buy produce. I didn’t buy anything because the selection of fruits and vegetables was small. When it gets warmer, I’m sure the market will have more stuff. The business keeps its market, bakery and lunch counter separate from the restaurant. The restaurant is only open Thursday through Saturday for dinner, and then it’s only open for brunch on Sunday. They keep complicated hours that you can’t remember. I’d love to come back here for dinner.
