The food is good and fresh. The prices are good too especially the lunch special.

5 stars!!! The food is very good! The service is great, much better than the others sushi places I have been in Baltimore. The price is fair and they gave us free spicy shrimp roll. And bubble gums at the end. How nice is that? My new to go sushi place.

This is one of my favorite places to eat ever, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that me and my boyfriend go here every single weekend. We’ve gone here for all of our birthday’s, this past Valentine’s Day, and every special occasion we’ve had since we moved to Hampden. The restaurant itself is very clean, and it never smells old and fishy when you walk in. Everyone is always so nice, and goes above and beyond each time we’re here. For example, every single time we’ve been here we have gotten a free roll. Like, what?! What other sushi place do you go to that does that? And as if that wasn’t enough, we absolutely love everything we’ve gotten here! Every single thing we order is fresh and delicious and served with a smile. I cannot recommend them enough. Please, do yourself a favor and try them out. You will definitely not regret it.

Can’t believe I live within walking distance and have never been here before. I am so glad to finally find a decent sushi place that I don’t have to über to. The food is very good– they started us off with some cucumber salad on the house, and it was so good. For an entrée, we got the curry chicken katsu which came with miso soup and salad, and we then got an assortment of sushi. The Superman roll was good, but overall my least favorite– the smoked salmon on top added a weird texture. The eel avocado roll was my favorite, and the Asahi roll was definitely up there as well. The service wasn’t the best, especially for a slow night, but overall a good meal.

Overall service is fast and friendly. They try to give you extras, including a small starter cucumber horseradish salad, an extra roll on the house, and those small cheesecake squares as dessert. I appreciated the extras, but I’m not sure if it fully compensated for the actual sushi rolls we ordered. I thought the rolls were fine but not amazing. The spicy tuna they used looked more like a strange red paste/clay than actual chopped up tuna. Also, they had used some brown sauce to decorate the plate. What I initially assumed was eel sauce turned out to be chocolate syrup… I was very confused. On the plus side, I did appreciate their rolls that had shrimp tempura. I thought that was tasty, but fried shrimp is generally satisfying anywhere. I think if you’re looking for an easily accessible place and if you’re not picky about your sushi, Yama is fine, especially because it’s in a shopping center so you don’t have to worry about street parking. But if you’re looking for a fresher, more authentic experience I’m afraid you may be disappointed. Like another reviewer, maybe I just ordered the wrong items. We ordered from their special rolls, and maybe we should have stuck to standard rolls and a la carte.

Yama Sushi Bar is where dreams come true and your tastebuds get to experience complete euphoria. The sushi is perfect and fresh and always made beautifully. If you’re not into sushi, I’ve had both their chicken Katsu and their steak terriyaki. Both are big portions and were enough to bring back home for the next day. Did I mention they were equally delicious??? The miso soup is fantastic and the best I’ve had in Baltimore. Seeing as I frequent Manhattan and all Asian shops alike there, that’s saying something. There are also little«perks» you get to experience when you go but I won’t spoil those here. Go and see for yourself!(Especially during dinner time)

I’m a regular and the food is always good and beautiful and the service excellent. The sushi is fresh, the service friendly and timely, the prices are super reasonable for sushi. There is a warm Cozy atmosphere. I visit with my husband, out of town guests, and friends. The love boat is a great deal for three or more people. So beautiful and fun.

So I’m a little behind in writing reviews because life just jumps right up and punches you in the face with work sometimes, but better late than never! Huge sushi guy here! I love the artistry, the complex combinations and flavors and this place nails it with precision. Swung in here to grab a bite after a long day on my feet. For a hole in the wall shopping M center eatery they do it right with personality, character, and décor. The place isn’t big but it packs in the customers. The food was amazing and I will be back. It you get the chance eat the volcano roll… so tasty!!!

Chinese run sushi is generally not my thing, but Yama did a fair job of preparing the food, and I can’t about the portions, a free roll, and a good service. Décor is par for the course for this sort of venue, clean, relatively dim in lighting, and low key.

Went here with a group of four on a Saturday evening and it was surprisingly not crowded. Everything was very decently priced, they had a ton of options for sushi, and staff was attentive and fast. They even threw in an extra free roll for us. I had the green dragon roll and it was fresh and delicious. Everyone in my group enjoyed their picks — it was more than enough food(and beer) for the price we paid. We will be back when craving sushi on the way into the city.

Very good sushi. Very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend to anyone. The deep fried spicy tuna roll called the Volcano and the deep fried crab roll called the Happy Face were utterly delicious!

Love coming to Yama! The food is amazing, and the menu offers a wider variety of sushi choices. I have been going to Yama for two years now, and have never been disappointed with a meal. Definitely check this place out!

Came here for dinner a couple of weeks back. Ordered the grilled BBQ squid, yakisoba, and sashimi set as well as a glass of plum wine. SO did not particularly enjoy the plum wine because it was too sweet, but that’s not the establishment’s fault. The BBQ squid was a generous portion and very delicious. Sashimi set was also delicious; the quality of fish was very unexpected considering the location. 5 stars for everything except for the yakisoba. The noodles were not the best we had and the flavoring was a little strange. Would definitely come back but stick with the sushi/sashimi side of the menu.

Everything here was delicious, especially the squid. My only complaint was the yakisoba. It doesn’t taste particularly good, was very bland and dry. Definitely get the grilled squid, that was the highlight.

If you’re a student at Johns Hopkins, this is the best sushi place within walking distance. The prices here are reasonable! Of all the sushi restaurants I’ve been to in Baltimore(RA, Shoyou, Minato, Matsuri, Orient Express, etc), Yama ranks second! Their fish is fresh! The spicy tuna and salmon rolls, while simple and oddly very similar(I can’t tell them apart), are my favorites. They are the perfect texture and spicy level. The Yama roll is also a must-order with its sweet sauce(leaves an almond after taste). If you’re an avocado lover like me, you must order the avocado salad! It’s literally a plate of sliced avocado with crab salad and a house sauce drizzled on top.

I ordered carry out from Yama Sushi, and I must say I was very surprised and happy with the sushi that I got. I ordered a Philadelphia roll, the salad roll, and a green dragon roll and ALL the roles tasted great! This is a sushi restaurant close to home with affordable prices that I will most likely go back to. The reason I gave the restaurant 4 stars is because the food was good but the rolls were a bit small. I did not dine in but the atmosphere looked alright from walking in to pick up my food. The man at the counter also seemed friendly(although conversation between us was short). All in all, I’d say if you are looking for affordable sushi in the area give Yama Sushi a try.

Just had the best California, Spicy Shrimp, and Tuna Rolls EVER. This place has the most amazing atmosphere. I have to admit it would be difficult to eat there for lunch and than try to head back to work. I could feel the authenticity when I walked in. The music was very mellow, and soft. The ambiance alone will pull you in. The moment you walk in you forget that this place is in a shopping center. It really is a world of its own. The employees are also very soft spoken and polite. There was no wait either. I will definitely be back for more.

This is incredibly close to the Loyola and JHU campuses. There’s not too many sushi places around this area and I think Yama stands out. I got the Yama Love Boat — 15 pieces of sushi, 15 pieces of sashimi and 2 special rolls. One of the special rolls was a California roll which was a little bit disappointing. The sashimi was good — I’m a huge fan of fatty salmon sashimi, and this was just okay. However, the service was a little bit on the slower side. We waited ~1 hour for our order. The waitress was very apologetic and offered us a free dessert for the long wait. If not for the long wait, then I think this review would be a little bit higher.
