Came here with my family for late breakfast/brunch on a detour from Washington to New York. Ordered the eggs Benedict which was ok– only ate one half. This was the first time i had ever had eggs Benedict so unsure of how good it should have been. My husband had the omelette with mushrooms and Swiss. Omelette was ok. The French fries and home fries were great. We were seated fairly quick– which was a plus. We were still in middle of eating when our waitress brought us our check which we didn’t ask for. Apparently that’s standard. Maybe I’m used to New York where you only get the check when asked for it. That way you don’t feel rushed to leave(even though there was no one by the door waiting to be seated). Three stars seems right.

Great, no frills diner. Great food and a pretty happy atmosphere. Have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Only regret is that it isn’t open later! Have tv’s so you can catch news or sports

Food is good and service is good. Exactly what you would expect from Diner food. Staff is very friendly and nice! I’ve been here about 5 times, and had good experiences every time.

My friend and I were in the mood for brunch on a recent Sunday morning. We were looking for something we could walk to and I was craving eggs. We decided to check out Southside Diner in Locust Point because they specialize in all-day breakfast. The fact that they specialize in all-day breakfast isn’t that surprising because it is a diner, but it was exactly what we were craving. Fortunately when we walked in, there wasn’t a wait because Southside Diner is a little on the smaller side and the place was packed. After looking over the menu, my friend decided on a medley of items to create her own breakfast. She started with a Bagel and Cream Cheese. I’m from New York, so I’m a little bit of a bagel snob. My friend really liked this bagel, but to me it was really nothing special. My friend also ordered Home Fries, the potatoes had a nice crisp on part of them, but the other part was just mushy. These would have been better if they were more evenly cooked, but they were still pretty great breakfast potatoes. Lastly, she ordered a side of Bacon. The bacon was thick cut and crispy, what’s not to love! For my breakfast, I ordered the Corned Beef Hash. While this isn’t the most appetizing looking plate, the runny egg yolk combined nicely with the corned beef hash and crispy potatoes. It was a little salty, but it totally hit the spot and made a great breakfast!

Came here with my brother for lunch on a Monday and was pleasantly surprised by this little diner. I was actually surprised to see this place packed. Since everything looked good on the menu, the friendly staff helped us make a decision. My brother and I ended up getting burgers and it was great. Although it seemed like a nice establishment, I was still skeptical(that’s just my nature). Burgers come with chips but it costs $ 1.75 to upgrade to fries. I think that’s a bit much in my opinion… seeing how typically fries come with burgers free of charge at other places. Regardless, the burgers were great. Great size, great taste, and great quality. It wasn’t some scrawny pathetic burger and I really enjoyed it. The food was fresh and I didn’t feel like I was eating at a grease pit(which is a common theme I’ve experienced in bmore).

Been living in Federal Hill for about a year and yet to venture to this little southern food gem. They offer breakfast all day long. To be honest, the first thing I thought of when looking at the menu was how great this would taste when hung over(L O L). But seriously, my friends always ask me where I want to eat. My first thoughts are 1) How far are the places, 2) Is the place even good/worth it, 3) Do I have to pay for parking. This restaurant is located in the shoppers shopping center and has free lot parking(SICK). I ordered the greek burger. At first look I thought I would still be hungry. But after eating it, it was a good chunk of food. The patty didn’t taste like a cheap Costco patty and the feta cheese, onions, tomatoes, etc. all tasted fresh. On the other hand, to substitute the free chips for fries would cost an extra $ 1.75. Not sure if it was worth it but I’m biased to always have fries. Also, this place had great customer service. And finally, this place seems to get packed around12−12:30 even on a Monday. I will for sure come here to check out the breakfast food and the reuben sandwich.

Been several times, meatloaf on Mondays is a work of art, and excellent. Been to breakfast twice, both omelettes were full and scrumptious. Fried potatoes are really good as well, Waitresses are pleasant and attentive. Go and you will leave with a full belly and a smile in your face.

I always say it’s hard to mess up eggs. However, there is such a thing as eggs that are cooked perfectly. Southside diner knows how to make your breakfast everything you want it to be. Aside from knowing how to cook the main ingredient of my breakfast, over easy eggs, they seem to be one of the few diners I go to that makes my bacon crispy enough. The waitresses are also very friendly there and the owner usually rings me up, which makes it feel like a family style place. I also really love their turkey club. My boyfriend gets their turkey platter with gravy and mashed potatoes and it is just like a home cooked meal.

Great breakfast spot. My poached eggs are cooked PERFECTLY every time. Which is nice. Also, the artwork on the walls(JLCexposures) is pretty awesome.

Glorified Denny’s. Unfortunately there isn’t much competition for what they offer in the neighborhood but it just isn’t very good.

This is the one and only diner I actually like. If you want breakfast in a diner with good prices in or near the city, this is a great way to start your day. The staff is very courteous and fast, the food is delicious, the portions are generous but far from being wasteful like most diners. I haven’t had a steak or soup yet, but the quality of ingredients is high, so I don’t doubt they are good. I have tried the roast beef club and enjoyed it, once again just well made food that feels like it’s home cooked. The breakfast sandwiches are inexpensive and substantial but unfortunately they do not offer any croissant option for your bread of choice. The sausage gravy tastes herbaceous and is actually satisfying, I suspect they may use sage sausage to create it.

The diner theme is open and friendly. Some waitresses are nice others are poker faced. The food is good but the price is too high. When did eating at a diner or café become like eating at a fine dining restaurant. The price for comfort food shouldn’t be so high. I had a roast turkey platter which was really good. My girls thought the coleslaw was bad and the soup was ok. There is a typical kids menu.

Really unexpectedly good. This diner is located in a strip mall, which is atypical of the diners that I’m used to. It’s relatively small on the inside, but sitting at the counter was actually pretty cool. I ordered eggs benedict with crab cakes and everything came out fantastic. The coffee was good, the service was good, the desserts looked good. I would label this as a hidden gem.

I’m giving three stars for«A-OK,» though I hope I can bump it up in the future. The staff is super friendly. The spinach pie was right tasty. The general renovation/setup of the space is good. But here’s the thing: The atmosphere is abysmal once the sun goes down, and it’s all due to the lighting. I once read that the underground bunker beneath The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia, built many moons ago as the secret location that Congress would be shuttled off to in case of disaster in the Cold War… I read that they puposely designed the bunker cafeteria to be aesthetically unpleasant, so it would be easy to get people in, get them fed, and get them out without tempting them to linger. This is what Southside Diner feels like right now. The wan, sickly lighting makes you feel like you’re in the waiting room of an underfunded rural hospital’s ER at 3am on a Tuesday. Like you’re in the janitor’s mechanical closet at an elementary school on a dark winter’s night. It’s almost as if you’re in a horror movie and the director is patting herself on the back for inspiring an uneasy feeling in the actors/patrons. I truly believe that simply switching to warm tone lightbulbs would make a huge difference. Pendant lights over the counter might be an entirely different world. I believe in you, Southside Diner. You can make the change that will make your patrons feel infinitely more like you’re the cozy neighborhood diner that we know you can be!

I probably should’ve listened to what some of the other Unilocalers said, but I thought I should decide for myself. Staff was nice when I came in and service was super fast. I ordered the veggie omelette with wheat toast. When it came out and I started to eat it, I noticed it was a bit watery. At first I thought maybe with all the veggies, some of the water came out of it as they were cooked. When I got to the thicker part of the omelette, it was obvious that the egg didn’t cook properly in the middle. I waited for the waitress to come, but ultimately had to flag someone down. They brought it to the back and gave me a new one, but I could tell they thought I was full of it. To top it off, the AC condensation was leaking on my table, but I didn’t want to say anything after saying something about the omelette. Would I come here again? Probably not, but I would tell others to give it a chance since it didn’t seem all that bad.
