Great food — a menu that is wonderfully complex for a side shop watering hole look and vibe. The bar shares a kitchen with Corner Charcuterie and the offerings on the menu reflect that: lamb pops, quail, pickled watermelon, a daily rotating whole fish, steak for two or half a pig’s head. These are adventurous finds in a bar that feels more like a dive. There were a few live DJs rotating in and out on the Thursday evening when we stopped by, another enjoyable and unexpected bonus. Cocktail menu reflects a very well stocked bar and craft, along with a rotating cocktail for the day and a few beers on tap. The negatives would be the service, repeated visits showed sitting at a table outside or inside were not the best bets for attentive or timely service. If available, the best spots are right up at the bar on the stools.

I’ll give it two stars for the cocktail I had that was amazing(can’t tell you the name as it was an «invention»). However… I went here after a brunch stop elsewhere on a day that I hadn’t really been planning to go out. My plans had been Target, groceries, and the general store, so that’s how I was dressed. I was a little taken aback by the drink prices, but it’s where my friend wanted to go, so why not. My first cocktail was okay, but not wonderful. I then ordered a coffee liquor drink to go with the dessert that my companion and I had decided to split. It was nicely plated and the presentation was on point, but I make better tasting pastries at home and the edges were burnt to a crisp, leaving a rather unpleasant aftertaste. I asked for one more drink, relying on the bartender’s creativity. That one was actually pretty damn amazing! Exactly what I expect when I’m at a fancy cocktail joint instead of one of my favorite local beer bars. While all of this was going on, however, a different bartender poured a couple drinks for himself and my companion, which somehow wound up on our bill. It had not been requested, and was not cheap, either. To top it all off, they wouldn’t remove the extra drink from the bill, nor would they charge each of us appropriately for what we had ordered. My tab, including half of dessert, was $ 35, yet I ended up paying around $ 60 because they would only split the bill evenly. Eff that! Had I known I would have been paying down the middle, I would have ordered a few more drinks so as to keep it fairly even. I don’t see myself returning here, to be honest. The weird check discrepancy and dessert that tasted like something out of a box in the freezer aisle completely turned me off.

I came here on a Tuesday night and there were more people at the bar than at the surrounding tables, but we were able to grab a seat at the bar and order some drinks and food. I ordered the You Caliente cocktail, it had illegal mezcal, ancho reyes chile liquor, pickled pineapples, agave nectar, and fleur de sel — super delicious. We got the Lobster Mash and Roasted Bone Marrow. I felt that there needed to be more lobster and lobster flavor within the mash(I’m originally from New England so I’m kind of picky about lobster, but I gave it a shot). The Roasted Bone Marrow was flavorful, I thought the Brioche«soldiers» were kind of big and a bit too much for the amount of marrow you receive. The lighting is on the darker side and I absolutely loved the music selection because it was my favorite…90’s Hip Hop. We even played darts and foosball… fun times.

Wonderful experience. The outdoor seating was perfect for our group. We were drawn by the crowd and the lively music audible from the street. The signature cocktail that night was fantastic, as well as the wine. My boyfriend enjoyed the beer on tap. The bartenders — who were also serving the tables were extremely attentive. Kevin, the man behind the beautifully presented meat and cheese platters(we ordered three of each) was knowledgeable and well versed in his craft. What started out as an impromptu outing in hampden ended with one of the most pleasant dining experiences I have ever had. This is truly a gem for the area.

We had the worst experience at that place. We ordered the chicken for 2, and waited for more than an hour to get it while our friends already finished dinner. While the chicken was good(once we got it), we were too annoyed to really enjoyed it by then. Today, when I looked at my credit card statement, I realized the server charged me TWICE for the same dinner(that I didn’t enjoy!) – once without the tip and once with the tip! They suck. Big time.

Had a delicious meal(not a malicious deal) of salmon and succotash. It was prefix and they even threw in a drink for $ 20. And the service was great and friendly. I do wish they had more outside seating… But the inside was a fine place to sit and eat an awesome piece of salmon and savory succotash. Go here. It is great.

So far I’ve been here multiple times and the food is always as amazing as the first time. The menu is always changing especially for the special dinner combo thing which only cost $ 20! It includes a appetizer, the entrée, and a beer or glass of wine. I like coming here with my boyfriend which recommended we try this place. Although at first I was a bit skeptical since I am more use to a fancier atmosphere he did say the food was awesome. When I walked into the place, it is pretty dim, and the first thing you would see is he bar, the barrel tables, and the graffiti on the wall. It was definitely a hole in the wall type of place which I was not use too. We got to sit at the bar a few times and it’s actually nice because you get to talk to the bartender when they are not running around. You can ask them about the special dinner of the day and what they have, also they have special drink of the day also should give it a shot(no pun intended). ****Oh btw there is a little dog usually just walking around in the place, so don’t be scared. I think it’s the owners/managers dog. He’s cute.**** Overall had a great experience and meal every time. Will be back. Can’t wait to see what other meal plans they have in store in the near future.

We stopped in for a drink and app before going to another restaurant for our dinner and were unbelievably disappointed! We ordered our drinks, waited over 30 minutes and had to remind our server that we had ordered them(and were still there!). We were told they were taking long because the other area was backed up, but when they arrived most of the ice was melted in them– obviously they had sat for quite a while. We also never got to order our app/charcuterie because we never saw our server again. Overall, the service was just HORRIBLE and the entire operation seemed like a hot mess… there were not many guests there but the staff seemed in disarray. The food may be very good, but we never got to find out and will not being going back.

I really enjoy this place. It’s such an unpretentious upscale dining experience in a really comfortable and cool environment. It’s a dimly-lit small bar with well-priced adventurous and unique foods and drinks that are done so well. It has a quirky and dark vibe, which I really dig. I tasted almost everything on the menu and loved it all, except the froglegs which I thought were a bit bland. The bone marrow was the best I have ever had. The escargot was astounding and affordable. I can’t wait to start going for their happy hours.

My boyfriend and I met up with friends here for dinner last night. When we first arrived, the place was packed, so we had to meander up and down 36th street for a little while and return. We snagged the first tables that opened up. The staff were very pleasant from the get go and gave great recommendations when asked. My boyfriend got the Southern Sidecar cocktail which was awesome. The waiter recommended a Pinot Gris for me, which was very good. We got a charcuterie plate with prosciutto and mortadella, and asked for a cheese recommendation. The plate came adorned with a lot of interesting extras which complemented our selections. We were very pleased with the charcuterie, and it was great that they gave a sufficient amount of bread. For dinner, we tried a bunch of small plates. We had the frog legs, escargots, crab friets, and fingerling potatoes– all fabulous. The only disappointment(aside from lack of sufficient seating) was the dessert. We really wanted something chocolatey, and they were out of their hazelnut donuts, so we settled for the cherry-almond custard tart, which wasn’t what we expected. It was more of a bland cake. This would have been a 5 star review if it weren’t for the disappointment of the dessert. I have a feeling we will return and hopefully they will have a more appealing dessert option! Overall great place, pleasant atmosphere, knowledgable staff.

Heres an odd star rating for a place I will be choosing over many other restaurants in the area. First, although I don’t normally drink, I highly enjoyed the special cocktail blends. On top of that I ordered the $ 20 dollar dinner which is a highly recommended soup, entrée, and beer/wine they offer in the evenings. I heard the chefs from the byob corner and the other corner collaborate ideas. However I enjoy the menu at this place more along with its atmosphere, but thats just my preference… The other corner has a casual approach on dining style and their food suits it well. While offering an «up scale» gastro experience. Overall It made out a good buzz and a satisfied appetite. If you are not sure ask Scotty or someone there to help figure out a solution.

First off, my favorite meal is Charcuterie. And this place made all my meat and cheese dreams come true. Alright, let’s get my nitpicking out of the way. I came during the World Cup and the whole restaurant was watching and yelling at the large TV. I don’t come to a place to watch TV, but, hey, it’s the world cup. I sat at the bar, and yes, servers are the typical ‘too cool to serve you’ servers that I find all over Hampden. They were nice, yes, but… a smile to a customer wouldn’t kill you guys. Ok, that’s out of the way. Everything else was AWESOME! The décor is very rustic and it works with the cold plate food. They have specialty cocktails that are delicious(if a little overpriced). And the food. OMG, yum! the meats were cut to perfection and served at the right temperature. Flavorful sobretto and prosciutto, served with olives, mustards and other accoutrements. The cheese were like heaven. There were some unfamiliar names on the menu, and despite the hipster vibe one of the guys behind the bar took the time to help me out.(Thank you!) Everything about this place is carefully curated — the décor, the menu, the drinks — everything. And it shows. Attention to detail makes a meal an experience and not just eating some food. These guys nailed it. Go!

We all know how much I love Corner BYOB and I often stop over at the Other Corner for drinks. On this Saturday afternoon, I stopped in to their sister café/bar/charcuterie side. It’s almost speakeasy-ish, in the sense that you could have a hard time finding it — that is until now, when I tell you to look for the giant meat cleaver. I wasn’t super hungry, so we just split a pork sammie and the charcuterie plate — with mortadella and sopressata. We mixed our charcuterie with cheese(I asked for them to set it on fire, so we got the camembert…). The meat and the cheese are fantastic, but unlike so many of my other plates — this place does not skimp on the bread and they give you about 19 different sides to dip and add to your bites. We had pickled jicama, apple butter, pineapple mint jam, honey, and some dried fruit, some fresh fruit… Such a nice addition, and really adds to the plate. It really makes me feel like they want you to enjoy the meats in a brand new way. Each bite can have totally different flavors. The BBQ pork sandwich is also nothing to sneeze at. It is huge and served open face style. The pork was tender and juicy and had a sweet, but not super vinegary taste. These guys are very inventive and top the pork with a pickled coleslaw of radicchio and watercress on top. My friend isn’t a huge fan of cole slaw, but even he agreed that it made a great addition to the sandwich. The home made english style muffin was a great touch. Believe me, I will be back — not just for drinks. They have a $ 20 dinner that comes with the meal of the day, a beer or wine, and a side.

This place is fantastic. While there are places to get cheaper cocktails, the selection they have is perfect for those moments when one wants a fancier drink. On my last visit I had the special which was a cross between a margarita and mojito and it was phenomenal. As food, they have a great selection with my favorites being the frog legs and mussels. The chef is great and he and the staff have a really good pulse on the room. Another notable item, which during happy hour has a deal, is the charcuterie platter, which I saw another table order and can’t wait to try next time. A final awesome factor is that they serve food late. While royal farms is undeniable in its fantasticness after 1030pm or after a number of drinks, knowing that a place that has such a wild and varied menu serves food past midnight is also an option is comforting and something I continue to take advantage of.

(6÷7÷2014) We had just had an excellent meal at Le Garage down the street, but decided to stop at the Other Corner for a cheese plate and nightcap. Because I have no self-restraint, also got a charcuterie plate, BBQ frog legs and smelts. All were excellent. I think of smelts as a spring time and seasonal food, always get them when you see them. These were crisp fried in a very light, crunchy tempura batter, the salty, oily meat complemented by a sweet, sour, Thai-style chili sauce and pungent bite of smokey grilled green onions. Frogs legs were glazed with a teriyaki-style sauce, very moist, not overdone or tough, brightened by the tangy sweetness of pickled pineapple. On the cheese plate was a Jasper Hill Harbison, Cherry Glen Chevre and an aged, semi-firm sheep’s milk cheese. Charcuterie was a prosciutto, pancetta, and speck all from Pastore’s. The accompaniments were the perfect foils for the creamy, pungent cheeses and salty meats; ran the gamut from sweet(black pepper honey, brandied cherries, pear, apple, pineapple compotes, cinnamon-almond fruit paste), sour(pickled jicama, cucumber pickles), spicy(whole grain mustard, peppadew peppers). Cocktail of the day was a tequila mojito, good size, finely chopped mint, just the right balance of sweet and sour. It was a fine night, we sat outside(it’s a little tight on the sidewalk with pedestrians flowing in from The Charmery). Great place to hang for a nosh and drink.

I am absolutely confident in this 5 star rating. I have now stopped into the Charcuterie several times, and every experience has been phenomenal. From my first gin cocktail here with traditionally prepared escargot, to after dinner drinks and a dessert cheese board made on the fly, to a meal of small plates, the Charcuterie does not disappoint. The bartenders are knowledgeable and attentive. The menu is dynamic and carefully planned. The charcuterie and cheeses are expansive. The place is small, but well thought out, with outdoor seating available. The small tables are comfortable and not on top of each other, and the bar has my favorite thing, stools with backs! Clearly, the Charcuterie invites you to stay a while and enjoy yourself, which is what I did last night. Open with a Sidecar, perfectly mixed, not overly sweet, just the right amount of mellow tartness. And then the hard part, choosing from the menu. If we were in a serious dinner mood, we would have taken advantage of the insanely priced special– for 20.00(that’s right, 20.00) you could enjoy a steak with friets and salad or soup, and I think a dessert was thrown in there. Fortunately, I was with a partner in crime whom also enjoys sharing LOTS of small plates. Frog legs, escargot, marrow, smelts, and vegetable ratatouille(because mom always told you to eat your vegetables! The portobello with escargot and melted cheese is what pizza dreams of being. Rich and bright in flavor with that perfectly messy melted cheese all over it. Demolished immediately. Frog legs, bar-b-qued, were full of flavor and juicy, with pickled pineapple garnish, YUM. Bone marrow. I have a love-hate relationship with marrow. I often find it a bit boring in preparation and overly rich, so that you enjoy a little taste, but it’s not something I dig in to. The Charcuterie turns marrow on it’s head. Prepared with garlic and herbs, the marrow has the same rich undertones you expect with a savory mouth feel and light finish. Yeah, it’s like a great Bordeaux. Halfway through dinner, I ordered another cocktail. I should really take notes throughout meals, because I can’t remember what it was, but it was made with mezcal and impressively mixed to balance that smokey aroma with a citrus finish. Seriously these bartenders are solid. This place is a go-to for casual drinks after work with friends, a night out with your cutie, a first date, a last stop before heading in… Basically, it’s a good time any time. Go. Now.

I will get to my review in a bit, but first. .. see Christy D’s review here? The one about this place going to the dogs? I was sitting right next to her that night(I am Robin M’s boyfriend, who also wrote about this) and feel the need to respond to her distortions and, in one case, patent falsehood. For those who have never been there, OCCB(Charcuterie) is very small and I was literally about three feet away, able to hear everything. I am not a dog person. Not that I dislike dogs, but I am not someone enamored of them when I happen to see them. Having said that, the dog at Charcuterie was not bothersome at all. It was a short-haired dog that was very non-obtrusive. It walked around a bit, but to describe it as having«trotted freely back and forth» is, if not dishonest(the dog was not leashed or encumbered and therefore was free), then certainly misleading. It walked around a bit, mostly minding its own business and not bothering anyone. What is dishonest is Christy’s statement that the dog was«licking feet and shoes» «nudg[ing] his wet nose and tongue» about. I was wearing shorts and sandals. If anyone would have noticed this, it would have been me. This did not happen, nor did I see it happen to anyone else. And I was looking! At some point, it became clear Christy was having a «diva» experience about the dog and so my attention was attuned to its behavior to see if its behavior was problematic. It was not. Someone with Charcuterie(the chef, manager, I am not sure) came over to discuss the issue with Christy. This person was polite. Christy was not, shoving her iPhone into the guy’s face and informing him that everything was being recorded. Jeez, what a drama queen! It could not have been more clear, through numerous clues such as language, tone of voice, body mannerisms. etc., that Christy was expecting some groveling. Thankfully, she did not get it. In fact, when the bill was placed on the table, I clearly and distinctly heard Christy say to her friend THATSHEHADEXPECTEDCHARCUTERIETOCOVERTHECHECK. Hats off to Charcuterie for its handling of this, and making someone pay despite complaining. As for the actual restaurant and meal, the place is wonderful. This was my second time there with my girlfriend, this time with her mother. I had the escargot and frog legs, both delicious. The mom had mussels, which were very good, and Robin had a charcuterie plate, also top notch. The previous time, I had the steak special(they have a special most night, with a meal and drink for something like $ 20), which brought me back this second time. It is clear that the chef cares about what is going out. With so small of a place, so few tables, every one is given the care it deserves. More than the food, though, is the atmosphere. Small, dark and no television(a real strong point in my book), Charcuterie allows for an intimate evening, if you do not mind waiting for the table. Yes, the service is slow. But that is admitted up front. This is not fast food, and they let you know that, as the cocktails are freshly made, they take time, which itself creates some backlog. Charcuterie is part of that wave(of which I am a fan) of bringing an old-style feel to new places, a throwback to the speakeasy of yesteryear. I found myself comparing Charcuterie very favorably to WC Harlan, though obviously with a much better food selection. If that is your thing, then Charcuterie needs to be on your list.

Meat lovers unite! This place is not for the faint at heart, they have very unique items on their menu like: bone marrow, escargot, frog legs, trout spread, blood sausage, etc…(not formal names of the menu items BTW). If you are a picky eater this is not your spot! I came Tuesday night with a couple girlfriends and we just ordered a bunch of things on the safer side of the menu: cheese and sausage fondue, beer mussels, Charcuterie plate(the deal where you get a salad, 4 meats and a couple cheeses and fruits and spreads, and a drink for $ 20… only on Tuesday night I believe), and a bottle of wine! We decided we needed to be more adventurous so we ordered the frog legs too! They lasted like chicken! Not bad, but definitely have to get past the fact they were frog legs! All of the food was very good and came out when ready and we had no complaints really! The service was good, one guy was our food server, the other was the bartender and made sure we were topped off with drinks. The place is very quaint and small, and the front door doesn’t look like a front to a restaurant but like you are going into the back of Corner BYOB’s super secret butcher cellar or something! It is dark and comfortable though. Not busy at all but then again it was Tuesday. Glad we came here to try it out, but it will definitely be a place you have to be in the mood for. Would definitely go back for drinks and chatting though!

This is not a review for Corner BYOB. This is a review for their new charcuterie next door beneath the meat cleaver sign, The Other Corner. So I’m walking down Elm, heading towards 36th Street in Hampden when I encounter a couple of guys shucking oysters and selling them for a buck a piece from a stall on the street. Seems that the Corner BYOB has opened a small charcuterie and on the first Friday of the month, they go outside and shuck oysters for the passersby. The guys says it not as stuffy as the Corner BYOB– small plates, craft beers and strong cocktails. So we checked it out. Its a fun small space with a bar and a half dozen or so tables. Curing meats hang over the charcuterie part. House specialties, besides the charcuterie and cheeses, include a not too garlicky escargot; frogs legs and duck fat fried fingerling potatoes. There’s a dinner special of a rotating entrée(We had the jumbo lump crab mac and cheese– sinfully delicious) with your choice of soup or salad and a glass of wine or beer for $ 20. Great friendly service, great charcuterie at neighborhood bar food prices. This place is genuine bargain. Recommended.
