I’m going to fall right in the middle of Anita’s and Joe’s reviews(I don’t like to take sides) Let’s start by saying that the event is for a great cause, raising $$$ for the Johns Hopkins Children Center, and we can all agree that is awesome :) This was my 1st time hearing about/participating in this event, and I had a blast! When my Buddy and I first arrived, it was kinda dead. Not too many people. So I wasn’t sure what to expect… But within a half an hour it was packed and that place was jumping! I will say I did expect to see more Elvis impersonators/attendees in costume, but the ones that did went above and beyond, so that makes it more special. The performances were entertaining, lots of talent showcasing the pride and joy of The King. They had a Black Jack table and roulette wheel type game, along with raffles and a bake sale if you had a craving for sweets. They had canned beer for a price, and free Heavy Seas beer on tap. It did get crowded, but that’s to be expected at a concert like event. I will have to agree that the food served downstairs wasn’t the best… they were finger foods, and the line to stand in to get to the buffet was inconveniently wrapped around the bar area and not worth the wait. They had a Kommie BBQ truck outside the venue, and the lines weren’t long at all(I didn’t have any but I am told it was really good) So had I not eaten a full meal before the event, I would have probably eaten BBQ. There didn’t seem to be much upstairs, some of the bands who performed on the main stage would do a few sets before/after their main floor performance. My suggestion, if you want to really enjoy yourself at this event: stay on the main floor for most the night. All in all, I had a great time. It definitely was an entertaining night. Thank you to all the Elvises and people behind the scenes for putting this together. I will definitely comeback next year, maybe with some sideburns and rhinestones of my own ;)

I couldn’t disagree with Anita W more. This is one of the best events of the year, and I’ve been going since the first one. This is a charity fundraiser supporting the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. It’s two nights of wild partying, with tons of great local live bands, Elvis impersonators, Vegas showgirls, belly dancers, you name it, but all with a little touch(or a lot) of Elvis. There are three floors with entertainment on each, and you can spend a lot of time running up and down stairs trying to catch your favorite acts, or you can just hang out at the main stage and they’ll eventually show up there. Yes it can be really crowded, Saturday usually more so than Friday, but a friendly tap on the shoulder does wonders to help you work your way through the room. The admission fee is primarily for the charity, so I can’t see complaining about the quality of the food and beverages. It isn’t fine dining, but it’s good. Definitely seek out the oysters on the half shell. If you’re hungry, I do recommend you not arrive late, as they may run out of some things by the end of the night. This event runs 7 hours, and the doors open an hour early. I will advise that seating is very limited. You can pay extra for a reserved seat or table in the ballroom. Otherwise, plan to spend a lot of time on your feet, hopefully dancing.

This is an annual Baltimore charity event in December that features LOTS of Elvis inpersonators at a retro building — I think it was a Lithuanian group that built the building in the 1960s, and it’s appropriate, but VERY crowded. I think a fire marshall would have had a heart attack. Getting between the 3 floors of the buildings to the different stages was difficult, and the food included in the $ 50+ tickets was almost non-existant(and disgusting). The open bar was kegs in Silo cups. Not a classy event, BUT… the entertainment was very silly and lots of fun. This is a good event for a group of friends to go to, especially for 20 somethings or 50+ somethings, but my husband and I felt pretty lonely as 30 somethings in this crowd. Not really a good choice for a date. I had expected the impersonators to mingle with the crowd more, and more of the guests to dress up. Some did — I did(Mad Men inspired dress and a boufant updo), but I was in a minority. I went on the Saturday night; Friday might have been less crowded. Many of the visitors are VERY serious about Elvis.
