From beginning to end, my visit to Georgia Southern was an absolute delight. On the suggestion and photos of a fellow Unilocaler, I decided on the Salisbury Steak to satiate my huge hunger. This is not my first experience with Georgia Southern, but was by far my best. The two gentlemen that waited on me were hilarious and super friendly and one even came outside to find me when my order was complete!!! Now to the food, No complaints. I am absolutely astounded by the quality home cooked taste and the pork-free greens have a customer for life. The macaroni and cheese was stellar, probably the best takeout I’ve ever had. don’t forget the peach mango kool-aid, for the ones that don’t like sugar, it’s not for you. I love it! Great home cooked food without me having to use my stove… YES!!! Five stars for great service and excellent heaping portions.

Hubby and I were in town visiting and searched Unilocal for restaurants nearby and this place came up first. We read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Walking in we could tell that it was going to be an experience. We walk up to thick plexi glass windows and proceed to order. I went with chicken platter, and picked Mac n cheese and collard greens for sides. Hubby ordered a pork chop platter and picked Mac n cheese and yams for his. This is a takeout restaurant and food is fried to order. We sat and waited for our food but had the displeasure of hearing the guys in the kitchen complain about getting too many orders due to an advertised special. Our name is called we get our food and off we go. Presentation could have been better and each meal came with cornbread. Now being from up north I assume the south does southern cooking much better but in this case I was wrong. Food had no seasoning. Collard greens should have been placed in separate container as the juice leaked all over my chicken making the skin soggy. Mac n cheese was like cheese soup. No texture no flavor. Collard greens were bland. Do they not use vinegar in Bmore. I mean we expected good food because of the name and location but this place missed the mark. Be aware it’s in a sketchy area but that didn’t bother us as we always go where the locals go when we go out of town. Lastly, they have interesting drink choices. Hubby decided to try mango-peach koolaide and with every sip his blood sugar rose. It was loaded with sugar to the point where ice couldn’t even dilute it.

Note this place is carryout. I was on the hunt for soul food on Sunday afternoon. Food is amazing. Service average. The guys behind the window seemed more interested in flirting with the young ladies that getting the orders together. I had the tilapia dinner with mac n cheese and green beans. All the food was seasoned well and very tasty. The portion was a great size for the $ 10 price tag. I would go back but I will besure to call ahead to cut down on my wait time.

There are other reviews for Georgia Soul Food, which I believe is the same place. I loved my meals from this place, which I found through EAT24 — meaning they delivered it to my door. The food arrived a bit later than I would have liked, but the people at the restaurant told me that the driver had been pulled over en-route and apologized for the delay. It arrived though with an apology a few moments after I had hung up from the restaurant. The man who answered the phone and the driver were both extremely nice. Delivered were the catfish dinner and a Salisbury steak dinner. The catfish came with a large filet that was coated and fried. The coating was crispy and the fish was cooked perfectly. I found the coating to be flavorful, but a bit salty. I got the mac n cheese and believe it is the best take-out mac-n-cheese I have found on this side of North Carolina. Very good with a good balance of cheese and buttery noodles. Yep, a bit oily, but it is a good oily! I also ordered the collard greens which came perfectly cooked. There were plenty of bits of meat throughout along with a turkey neckbone, which is what I think they may have used in cooking them. Also there was a corn muffin, which I thought was rather like a Jiffy mix muffin and it was just enough to mop up some collard juices. Each side filled the section of the foam box used for delivery and was heaped up. I would wager more than a cup for each side. The Salisbury steak came in two meatball-shaped pieces slathered in brown gravy over rice.(One was likely ¼ pound and the other was larger — perhaps 1⁄3 pound.) The sides were just mac-n-cheese but again it was heaped up. The Salisbury steak was delicious, but the gravy was a little salty. Again a corn muffin came with the entrée. Would have preferred mashed potatoes over the rice, but that was not an option. The rice was nicely cooked and was again plentiful. Also purchased banana pudding. It’s not grandma’s banana pudding, but I would definitely order it again. My only hit on the place is the saltiness — which is not uncommon with good soul food. However, since I’ve moved so far away from my roots, I’ve backed off on the salt and wish it had been just a bit less on the fish and gravy. Definitely will order from them again. Update: I have ordered from them a few times now. The saltiness is hit and miss, but it has been more of a miss. I’ve also had their fried chicken which was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. They were out of legs when I ordered, so they sent me an extra thigh. These thighs were HUGE. I could only eat one of them. Also, I ordered the peach cobbler since they were out of banana pudding. I did not like it as well as the banana pudding but it was perfectly good peach cobbler. Delivery continues to be slow though.

Awesome is all I can say! So I bought all my boys with me to try this spot! We tried the turkey wings, fried wings(which were HUGE), pork chops, fried catfish and fried shrimp! All I could hear was smacking!!! That mac n cheese was soooo cheesy and my collards were fresh, cooked with turkey. I don’t particularly care for sweet cornbread but my cornbread muffin was just right!!! When I ordered the guy said it would be a 30 minute wait. Needless to say, we got our food in 20 minutes! This place delivers! Literally… they have a sign that says they deliver… Now home to take a nap!

Great price! Everything tasted good… A little bit more salt than I care for but I still ate it all happily. Baked chicken with Mac and cheese, yams and cornbread. Crab cakes were okay, no real cocktail sauce so that was disappointing… seafood pasta A+ ! Cornbread awesome, turkey wing was bomb… half & half tea was tasty. Staff was nice, place was clean. Definitely would get again!!!

I was skeptical about the location, but was assured the fried tilapia would be worth the trip into Hades. All may now refer to me as Persephone because ITTOTALLYWAS! A perfectly seasoned reminder of what the world should be. I paired the tilapia with mac&cheese and collard greens. YUM in itself, yet when the cashier suggested the peach mango KOOLAID, I almost left because it seemed so farcical to seriously order KOOL-AID in a place of business, but it was EVERYTHING. The menu isn’t comprehensive, but it seems they’ve dedicated their love to the available items. To boot, the staff is extremely polite and earnest. They seemed genuinely excited I was a first time customer and almost interviewed me to assure my taste buds would be satiated. As I waited for my order, I watched them apply similar attention to the other customers and anticipated the orders of regulars. Everything was clean and I could see into the kitchen as the food was prepared. The food was affordable, on average $ 10 – 12; not bad when some fast food chains have the nerve to almost charge this for a combo. It’s not conducive to dining in as I think the sign or menu suggested, but a great carry out. I recommend calling in your order bc food this food is made to order and takes a little time(I waited maybe 15 minutes, but definitely am not complaining. I’ve been to fancier, more expensive soul food places on this street and waited much longer for inferior food and service). This will be a treat for me when I need a little taste of Down Home(and/or prove too lazy to cook).
