Delta Air Lines

I would give Delta negative stars if possible. They checked our passports before we went through security and then made us check them at the gate nearly forcing us to check luggage when we can’t. We then got reprimanded by an employee at the gate when we asked why they had to be checked multiple times. Most inefficient boarding process ever. Delta is run by incompetent people.

Now that Delta owns Air France the food is inedible and the customer service is non existent as can be see below with my review of our flight from Paris to Washington D.C. This is October and in February I purchased premium economy tickets for my husband and I round trip Washington Dulles/​Paris. We are 68 years old and it is important to us to travel together. We had booked a window and an aisle seat at the time of purchase. However upon arriving at Charles DeGaulle we were told our seats were not only not together and one of us was in a center seat. The explanation was they changed planes and everyone wants to be together. This is mathematically impossible since one of our seats had 1 person on the left and 3 people on the right. Neither Re divisible by two. We could try and ask someone to move. Incredible!!! That this is how you are treated and have to pay thousands for it!

Recently my wife and I flew to Portland Oregon from Regan National Airport.
The first leg was on a 757 to SaltLake City which was extremely uncomfortable due to the fact that I got the seat next to the emergency exit. You have to contort your body to get in the seat and then suffer for 4.5 hours without being able to move.
Then on to Portland. Better but … Did I widen or are the seats so minimal that you really cannot get comfortable.
Comming home we did the trip to Detroit at which my wife experienced her first blown eardrum… Pain!
Then on to DC for one more hour of torcher.
Delta SUCKS!!!

Not sure if it matters, but back when I flew Delta/​KLM I always used Dulles Int. Airport…
I never did write a review back when I flew 2+ times a year, but would like to thank Delta for their customer service, or at least for a certain agent who saved my butt when I arrived at the airport a bit late. I still had 45 min before the flight left, but the staff at the check-​in desk (not actual Delta employees) very bluntly said there was no way I would make it, and walked away from me without another word, or any offer of assistance.
I was devastated, especially since I was meant to meet someone overseas, at the other end of that flight, and after freaking out, then calming myself down a little, I called Delta’s customer service and got a very nice female agent, who sympathized with me and reassured me that she would do everything she could to help me out. She ended up getting me a seat on an Air France flight that left under 3 hrs later, at no extra charge!
Aside from that, I never had any negative experiences at all, and always attempted to fly either Delta or KLM whenever I could because of that fact.

Delta lost my bags for 5 days flying from Baltimore to New York to London. I arrive in London and the bag never boarded the plane to New York. It then took a total of 5 days to get the bag to me in London and topping that off my cologne was smashed and electronic tablet broke. What made it even worse was returning they lost the bag for another 2 days. Flight is cheapest out of most airlines which is why I continue to use them but if your not for baggage mishandling do not risk it. Flight canceling or problems with luggage is always a issue

I try to fly delta as little as possible as their rewards program isn’t the best as compared to the other airlines. I’ve flown with Delta since 2006 and I still don’t have status. In fact they expire your points if not used by a certain time, even if you are actively flying. Their points also don’t build easily.
The only thing I do like is their app. It’s very much interactive. Within moments of us landing, I get a notification that said. «Welcome to XYZ airport, you should check in on FB and tell your friends you are here». I didn’t, but it was nice. An upgrade that I would appreciate is if it tells you which gate your next leg is going to be. Atlanta is huge and I usually will have to walk at least 8 gates gown to the nearest screen that identifies all the arrivals/​departure gates. No Bueno.
So if Delta had a better frequent flier program, biscoff cookies on all their flights, and more outlets in their gate area, I’d consider to fly them exclusively again. Until then, I’m a SWA/​USAir girl.
Not only that, I have found that the biscoff cookies isn’t always served on flights. I took 2 flights today and all they had were pretzels. But first class had them… **scoffs**

Check-​in was fast and efficient.
TSA had a back up at the X-​ray machine and without missing a beat the agent (she) moved my bag from one belt to the next and allowed me to proceed.
The Delta agents were friendly and gave great service with a smile.
Overall not bad for 430 am…

The customer service at the counter (both check in and boarding) are absolutely awful. At the check in counter the person was not paying attention what so over and while I was at the kiosk she helped two groups behind me and when I asked her why she replied that she was to helped them first. What does that even mean? Then at the boarding counter when I ask the person about obtaining a seat assignment, he responded very rudely and told me that I need to wait. Never flying delta again!

Delta at BWI is decent. There’s no SkyClub which is unfortunate but there are enough seats and enough power outlets by the gates so that you can wait for your flight mostly comfortably. The gate agents do understand the proper boarding priority (pre-​boards, then first, then Sky Priority elites, then zones 1 2 and 3) and I think that they did a reasonable job of enforcing carry on limits.
I did check two bags for my departure today. The ticket counter agent was efficient, even if he was not as well staffed as I would have preferred. There is a separate line for economy passengers and Sky Priority passengers. No one else was waiting when I arrived.
For those of you who have experienced a «mechanical delay,» this is considered within the airline’s control. As opposed to the nebulous «weather delay» that is not in their control. You may be owed some compensation.

Flight was delayed for four hours due to a mechanical problem. No way to make the connecting flight. They offered no help finding another flight option that would get us there in time. What bad customer service.

Delta sucks.
When your flight gets delayed for a «mechanical error» you think they will be better at getting a replacement airplane to the airport.
Nope.
They send for a part and try to fix it at the airport. Thus, delaying your flight and rerouting your connecting flights on the latest possible flights. Overbooking every other flight before and after yours so you have no chance but flying on this broken plane.
Great service.

I love Delta. I do not care what the haters say but I think Delta is fabulous. I have NEVER had an issue with this airline — from their cabin crew to their Android app I am constantly satisfied with their services and amenities.
I was looking for a last-​minute flight to Costa Rica and after hours of searching and finding horrendous layovers in Miami with other airlines I found one Delta flight on Kayak. I gave Delta’s website a shot and I am so thankful I did. I found over a dozen flights with less than 2 hour layovers. Several of Delta’s flights were Business Class FROM Costa Rica to Atlanta. Of course I booked it. BOOM.
My flight from DCA to JFK was short and sweet. We were on a small plane (~30 seater) and our flight attendant was very nice and attentive. On the flight from JFK to San Jose, CR the flight attendants were great. Always had a smile, was engaging and made sure everyone was attended to. The plane was comfortable (despite the bumpiness) and clean.
The flight from San Jose to Atlanta was the BEST. For those of you who have flown business class on a US airline must know Delta is one of the most elite. I asked for a glass of red wine and I promise you every 30 minutes the flight attendant came to check on me and make sure my glass was full. I never had to ask. The seats were comfy, the food was surprisingly good (they were serving rigatoni or beef — I had the latter).
On all four flights the captains made sure to inform the passengers of any issues if there were delays, the direction in which we were flying in (from JFK to San Jose we were told ‘departing NY, flying over ATL, then MIA, then over Cuba’, let the passengers know of turbulence and how long it will last. I could go on and on but I do think this is important.
Movie selection — was fine. A couple of years ago I was on a Delta flight and each seat has its own TV. I watched Superbad for the first time — amazing.
Thank you Delta for such a wonderful flying experience. As one of your loyal customers I just wanted to say I appreciate you!

Easy on and easy off at this airport. Had a nice flight in.

Are the seats a bit cramped, yes. This is commercial flying these days in coach class and it is not going away. Could you do a whole lot worse? Read my review of a so-​called airline I flew in April of 2013. Planes were on time, clean and the flight crews professional and courteous. These folks actually give you a small snack and beverage a couple of times when flying across the country whereas the other airline gave you a beverage only, had a dirty plane, rude staff and, well, I could go on but you can read that review. Box meals are available for a charge. Gate attendants were friendly also and you know when it was a good experience when you wind up laughing and thanking the flight attendant when exiting. Would fly Delta again!
PS– The cookies are the BEST!

I flew from BWI to Nashville (via Atlanta) on Thursday, August 8, 2013. The plane loaded and I noticed that the flight attendant was closing some of the overhead bins even though they were not full. Yes, they had bags in them, but many were not «full» and bags could have been adjusted to make room for backpacks and the like. I stashed my carry-​on into the overhead compartment and took my seat. The poor young couple in back of my, however, had to get off the plane and check their small carry-​on. Seems like a slimy way to make a few extra bucks. Their bags could have been easily squeezed into some of the bins that weren’t actually full.
Needless to say, the plane was late leaving the gate, most likely because of the delay in checking the bags and then getting ATC to get us back into the queue.
Suggestions, if they try to make you check your carry-​on, double-​check the overheads before you give them one cent.

I took Delta 3981 from Baltimore to JFK, and then Delta 347 from JFK to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Now, there were several problems with the flight (s) tonight — both times I had to sit on the tarmac for hours on end in 100+ degree heat because there was something wrong. In BWI, the excuse was that JFK was overloaded with flights and couldn’t accommodate our plane. No offense, but that’s not my problem — it’s yours, Delta. I expect to get to my connecting flight on time, without worry. Too hard for you? Perhaps I should take another airline.
At JFK, we were on the tarmac for two and a half hours, in 100+ degree heat IN THE CABIN because the air conditioning wasn’t working. Gee, Delta, think you could help us out here? I’m sorry, but a cup of warm water wasn’t what I had in mind. Really? Seriously, guys?
So, why three stars instead of the one it obviously deserves? Honestly, because the flight attendants were incredibly sweet and helpful, even under the worst of circumstances. My flightmate on 3981, a lovely young woman from Ellicott City visiting her boyfriend in Europe, made the time pass by fast. And when I started feeling super bad on the JFK flight because my blood sugar was low, the FA gave me a sandwich and a package of cookies. Okay, the sandwich was stale — but at that moment, it tasted like a 4 course meal at the Charleston.
The pilot (a Captain Ayres) on the JFK flight was incredible — he was trying to land at San Juan in the middle of a violent thunderstorm and had to go around twice (my heart nearly stopped — this airport is NOT easy to land at), but he MADE it. The whole cabin applauded, and rightly so.
So… Delta isn’t all that bad, certainly not any worse than any other airline. But the waiting in the heat was a bit much.

The experience — spectacle, rather– that I endured on 4÷14÷13 in Atlanta has engendered me to never utilize Delta again. I have never witnessed such a lack of professionalism, tact, and common decency as I did then. I was on crutches in Atlanta airport. I departed my plane in terminal B. I thought I needed to go to terminal A. Then, there was a gate change to terminal E.
I understand that unexpected changes need to happen and gates vary. That’s not my issue. My issue is the way I was treated by their agents. Upon realizing that I could not physically crutch from terminal to terminal, I stopped and asked an agent if I could have assistance to my gate. The agent then rudely replied, «What kind of assistance do you need?» I asked for a wheelchair to get me to my next gate. The agent then asked three people if they could assist me while I was standing there waiting for them to decide who it was going to be. I noticed that I needed to get to my gate so I told them I’d crutch myself if they could not come to a conclusion. Rather than missing my flight, I decided to crutch myself to the next terminal. That is crazy!
This is completely unacceptable and an aberration of quality customer service. NEVER AGAIN!!!

1) Can I tolerate paying $ 25 for my first checked bag 50lbs and under or paying $ 90 if 51lbs or over when those fees were formerly applied to checked baggage around 75lbs? Apparently, I can.
2) Can I tolerate $ 8.99 for flat fajita salads, $ 8.50 for rubbery chicken wraps, & $ 3 for snack size Pringles on a one meal Food for Purchase flight when two complimentary meals used to be served on the same flight? Apparently, I can.
3) Can I tolerate being squished into a Boeing MD-​88 for 2 hours going to ATL for layovers when my destination’s either MCO or HNL ergo adding up to 3 hours travel time? Apparently, I do.
Oddly, I like you, Delta. I appreciate the friendly staff. I appreciate those who waived the excessive baggage fee when I was a «tad» over 50lbs. I appreciate you streamlining the check-​in process to one line at your new BWI counter. And once I switch planes to an Airbus Industrie A330 after that ATL layover my 9.5 hour flight to HNL’s a breeze. Be mindful, Delta, you’re keeping that «like» by a slim margin.
4) Am I a masochist with overweight bags, cash to burn, time to waste, but digs an A330, fun flight attendants, helpful counter staff, and generally on-​time flight arrivals? Apparently, I am.

«Jackie» was my customer service representative and was reluctant to assist me in any way. I had told her that I received a memo that my mother lost her passport during a flight so she was stuck at the airport, and I had no idea what I could do. She continued to ask me questions that I did not have answers to, even though she had my mother’s flight information from the name I provided. It’s fine if she didn’t know what to do either, but it didn’t even seem like she understood the protocol for any passenger who loses their passport during a flight, and she dumbed my questions down. This was VERY unprofessional. She couldn’t even refer me to anyone who could help. I don’t care if I am transferred to other people. In addition, she wouldn’t let me finish explaining the situation and hung up on me.
I ended up Googling the protocol.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCED.
