I was expecting so much from Cake Love from all the hype I’ve heard. I went in and bought a dozen assorted cupcakes. I was extremely disappointed! I think one of Cake Love’s slogans is something like they’re not about making it pretty, they’re about making it taste good … well in fact, their cupcakes are not pretty, but nor are they any good. They’re dry … I could make better with a boxed mix at home. Dont waste your money. try Charm City Cupcakes — pretty AND delicious.

Sadly disappointing! I’ve eaten at DC’s U St Cake Love, which didn’t impress me either, but this was too much! –s Only had 4 type of cupcakes left Frosting was frostbite hard! Cake was old and hard too Don’t waste you time and money!

Not bad… but the cupcake was a little dry. I think they need to focus more on the product than their image.

A little pretentious(I met Warren Brown once… he’s a nice guy but doesn’t make me like the place) and the cupcakes are not even that good. Overpriced and the cupcakes are indeed dry.

Dry cupcakes with good icing. Are they popular only because of the TV appearance of the baker? Whatever the case, I would rather eat a cupcake from Safeway, next door, than spend 3 bucks on a Cake Love rock. If you must have something sweet and you are nearby, go to Vaccaro’s in O’Donnell Square. If you’re home, make your own.

Alas, I want to love Cake Love but I do not. Even after letting the cake warm up to room temp(as they suggest) it still isn’t all that soft and moist! The frosting is rich but too much so — it tastes like you are eating straight butter(which you probably are but frosting isn’t supposed to actually taste like butter). The cupcakes aren’t better than Charm City Cupcakes and they cost almost a dollar more. I’m a chocolate person and their chocolate cake and frosting just isn’t chocolately enough for me(it isn’t even the right color — it should be dark brown not sandy light brown). The vanilla is better… and the German Chocolate cake is okay — the coconut frosting is actually pretty good and makes up for the lack of depth of the chocolate cake. anyway… it’s so sad that this place isn’t as good as it sounds(or costs)!

I’m going to have to agree with my fellow Unilocalers on this one: dry cupcakes, mediocre frosting. The three stars are for the delicious vanilla layer cake slice I had there. Now *this* was a moist, delicious pile of sin and I absolutely LOVED it. Didn’t love the $ 6 price tag though. Despite the disappointment, I will go back for another expensive slice of cake, but am definitely not addicted.

I really wanted to love the Cake Love, and more specifically, the Baltimore Cake Love. But I don’t. The Baltimore location brings all of the pretentious aspects of DC Cake Love up to Charm City with none of the, ahem, charm. The cake is good, the frosting is OK, but nothing stellar. I much prefer softer butter and/or cream cheese frostings. I think half of the problem may be that they only frost in Baltimore, not bake. Maybe 295 is rough on the poor little cakes.
