Will not return. I placed order for seafood and was served chicken. When I informed the owner she acted like I won a garlic chicken instead of my seafood order. She made NO attempt to correct my order or make my order. She once again just smiled and said I got garlic chicken. The waitress apologized which was decent. If you plan to go here don’t plan on receiving good customer service from the owner. Sia-0-Nara.

Really good food. Hot & sour soup is pretty good, crab rangoon is awesome & the Szechwan beef & hot braised chicken entrées are both good. My #2 favorite Chinese restaurant in STL. Definitely worth a try — you will return!

Called ahead for carry-out on a weeknight. The woman taking the order was polite and easy to deal with and she got the order right. In spite of calling ahead the food was not ready when I arrived and the wait was another ten minutes. The restaurant did not appear busy but it was a week night. On the positive side the food was still hot when I got home. The Hot and Sour soup was good but the Won Ton tasted watered down. The Orange Chicken was in a watery sauce, not as thick as I’m used to. The Beef with Broccoli was pretty good and the Garlic Chicken was OK and had lots of fresh veggies. Not very spicy or garlicky. Like most West County Chinese restaurants the food was bland.

Not the same since Frank family sold the place. Food is very different and service is not good. We went last night for dinner at 7:30 and we were the only people in the place. The owner and his wife(I think) did not say hello when we walked in or goodbye when we left. No thank you or anything. I predict this place will be closed or sold again in a year. I was insulted by these people. The chicken had a weird taste and the crab Rangoon were burnt.

This isn’t a fancy place but the service is excellent and I haven’t had a bad dish yet. Love the basket of fried wonton strips on the table and the complimentary pot of tea is very nice. A good, solid restaurant. Good food. Good service.

Hasn’t been the same in a while… Maybe new management? Food hasn’t been good. Frown face.

We went here with my BF and his child after a fun day out and about. We had crab rangoon(better than average, light and not too sweet), sweet n sour chicken(tasted fresh), 12 ingredient Lo mein(nice flavor, didn’t wow), and ginger beef(yummy but a bit overwhelmed by bamboo). Service was friendly, happy and effective. For a detailed review, read on: In the Great Dinner Debate, Unilocalers pushed us over the edge with claims of Best Crab Rangoons(which we didn’t really agree with but doesn’t rangoon yumminess boil down to preference really?) Though these were lighter than typical wanton wrappers in many crab rangoons, my guy prefers a thinner, lighter shell. I think they’re cooked more gently and more freshly made than at typical places. We didn’t think they were the best, but we did think they were better than average. The filling wasn’t too thick and dry or too sweet. And the wrapper to filling ratio was nice, lots of filling and lots of wanton. They bring a huge basket of fried eggroll/wanton wrappers to the table when you first start your meal. Tempting for kiddos. We also had coke, which was awful and BF refused to drink, but didn’t complain. I had water, green teas(complimentary) which were good but nothing special if you’re a «tea person» especially not special if you’re a jasmine green tea lover. But nice and not over cooked or anything, as one usually finds. Sweet n sour chicken– sauce on the side, for the kid. Everyone enjoyed it, we had a few pieces and it tasted like fresh chicken breast. Not TOO greasy. But it’s deep fried so… ;) For the sweet n sour chicken lovers out there: this style of batter was a more classic tempura style batter. Light, not too doughy or bready.(Some people prefer the more dumpling, bready style sweet n sour chicken, this wasn’t it. Other people prefer the much more thin coated, long chicken«fingers», this wasn’t that either.) 12? Ingredient Lo Mein: As far as lo mein goes this was pretty good. The sauce had a nice flavor but didn’t Wow. There were nice select cuts of lean meats and some small shrimp but there were also«weirder» pieces of dark meat something or other which looked fatty and I set those off to the side. When I get Lo mein I’m always interested in a little bit of a smokey, roasty flavor to it and I didn’t find that in this dish, but it had it’s own pleasant flavor and wasn’t excessively oily so I had no complaints. Ginger Beef: This said it had ginger and bamboo and WHOA did it ever have a lot of bamboo. Probably too much bamboo to meat ratio. I brought my leftovers home and plan to sautee slices of steak and then combine with the leftovers. Seemed like it could use more of a fresh ginger flavor, personally. This place had a lot of potential and we’re interested in trying other dishes when we’re in the area again. They have a special menu in Chinese but it’s in traditional characters so be aware before you visit.

My family and I dined here on a Sunday for lunch after church. We arrived at approximately 12:30pm nd the place was approximately 30% full. If I could I’d give the place a 2.5. Some of our dishes were pretty good, but others weren’t. Overall the sauces were thicker and heavier than I prefer. The egg rolls were nice sized, but a little greasy for my taste. We’ll try a few more places in the area before we return.

Although I hear the food is good but after waiting 20 minutes for drinks and an hour and 20 minutes for food… I just cancelled my order. Not only us but 3 other people got up and walked out. I eat out a lot and have never had this bad of an experience. I will let everyone I know, not to choose this restaurant!

I had high hopes for this place considering the seemingly positive reviews, but I was very underwhelmed. The general tso was dark mystery meat-ish, the crab rangoon was average but carried a weird taste like cleaning chemicals(?). The fried rice was meh and the wonton soup was average. Definitely not hitting the ball out of the park though. All in all I was disappointed.

Have eaten here many times in 2 – 3 years. New owner recently as previous owner retired. Still arguably the best chinese cuisine in Stl area. I judge chinese resturants by a single dish — Kung Pao Chicken. Pek-hun has the best i’ve ever had. Jasmine tea is excellent. Every dish I’ve ever had here has been absolutely delicious.

it’s been about 8 months since i was last in st louis and at this restaurant. This time the food wasn’t as good or as flavorful… apparently there was an ownership change-they told us the whole story about the family selling the restaurant and how the kids don’t like it for sale but the kids didn’t want to buy it, and the old owner has the secret sauces and they are expensive. bottom line the food isn’t as good; it was too greasy. Guess they got rid of the cooks as well . There’s a new waitress too … She’s super new at waitressing, but provides some entertainment; she’s like the girl in every blond joke you’ve heard. Super sweet and had me laughing! won’t be going back.

The 4th star honestly is the Jasmine tea. I LOVE the Jasmine tea. If I get carry out from here, of which I have many times, they will get me some as I wait. Such very very nice people. No website so no menu but I have one so I will list a couple things. Food: As I said the Jasmine tea is fantastic. You can choose what you want in your eggroll. The Fried rice is made to order so you can not get it with your meal. They have Low Calorie meals(crazy right? But it does have the carbs aka rice.) «Served with steamed rice and soy=garlic sauce on the side.» «Steamed Vegetables with White Meat Chicken» or «…with Assorted seafood.» «Steamed Shrimp with Broccoli,» «Steamed Chicken with Broccoli,» «Steamed Vegetables Delight.» How delightful they are I do not know as I haven’t ordered them *wishes she had shame* but I’m amazed that a Asian food place even would attempt it! Forget that the rice itself is carb heaven. did you ever ask an Asian food place for a healthier option and have them look at you like you grew a third eye? I swear I will try it next time and pretend the carbs are not in the rice. Great kudos for the attempt! This establishment has been here a while and it is not a franchise. The people at the counter are really nice and the dining room has been decorated to be clear of where you sit is megaton Asian. The food is decent, better then your local place that you go for convenience sake. Heck I would come for the Jasmine tea! TLDR: Try the Jasmine Tea! Eggrolls are tasty. Decent food. Don’t go out of your way but worth trying.

I cannot believe there are only 10 reviews! Hunan Peking is an excellent Chinese restaurant, with tasty food, great service, owned by a very nice family and a talented chef that has been working there for years. I have been coming to this restaurant since I was in a high chair and the standard is still superb. The prices are reasonable, and the quality is great. Chicken Curry(#55) is something NO other Chinese restaurant makes quite like theirs. creamy, strong curry flavor. yummy. the chicken corn soup is tasty, schzuan beef, crab rangoons, bbq beef appetizer, you will not leave disappointed i promise! high recommend this restaurant for a great experience.

Been here with the family 3 times now for dinner. Most recently this week. The food is wonderful and they have a nice selection. We always have both the dumplings and wontons for appetizers. I typically go for a sweeter chicken dish like sesame chicken, my husband had the garlic chicken(Yum!). The last time we ordered cashew chicken but there were more veggies and only a little chicken. They fixed that this time — plenty of meat! So full! They do have some more inspired items and also those meal specials with the eggrolls and soup… Service is always attentive, but(as with all good Chinese restaurants) many of the servers understand English well but have a harder time speaking English back. No problem with that though when they always get the order right and come around refilling drinks frequently. We come on a slower night(Thursdays) so it may be different other nights. All in all, its a hidden gem!

Wished I wore stretchy pants last night! This place was so good that I couldn’t stop eating if I tried. It was a Sunday night around 530 and I sneaked in before at least 3 different big goups came in and boy did it get packed — always a good sign. We started out with a egg drop and wonton soup and then ordered Hunan and sweet/sour chicken family style. It was fantastic! I hadn’t had great Chinese food(super picky) since I moved here a year ago. I’m so glad I stopped by last night! Will be back… very soon :) Maybe tonight!

This place is great. I’ve been here many times and am just getting around to Unilocaling about it. I went this weekend with my father(it’s one of his favorite restaurant). Their lunch specials are great. 2 of us ate full meals… and we were hungry after playing a round of golf… all for $ 16. The service, is good. The soup and food are always hot, and the value of their lunch specials are great. I got the shrimp and chicken combo with egg drop soup, crab rangoon and an egg roll. I don’t know why, but their rangoons are so much better than everyone else’s. Don’t pass them up. My only gripe… why can’t anyone make the Chinese dishes spicy without leaving those little peppers in them? Does anyone eat those things! I have to spend the first portion of my meal fishing those out. Oh well… the food comes out so hot here I have to wait to start eating anyway. ;)

So I can’t go 4.5 starts… but I would. This place has been a favorite for years and while I’ve moved away from that area of St. Louis, I still make the trip to enjoy. Like many have said, the must have is the Crab Rangoon… THEBEST I’VEEVERHAD. Back from my High School days when I’d stop in and get lunch with a buddy weekly until today, I’ve never been disappointed. The family that has owned the place is fantastic, and they definitely recognize regulars. I think I’ve been going there through 3 generations of owners and there has never been a lapse in service or quality of food. Try the Shrimp w/Lobster sauce and definitely the Hot and Sour Soup. All the portions are easily family style so get a few things and spread it around. Its definitely old school Chinese restaurant décor but also definitely sit down. Plan on eating for a while and while they carry alcohol, its not one of their strong suits, unless you’re getting a Tsing Tao.

This was my favorite Chinese restaurant until our last visit. We walked in during a non-busy time and over 40 minutes later had not even received our appetizer or soup. At the table next to us, the people there paid their bill and left. Then a new family was seated, ordered, served appetizers and their main dish and we had still yet to receive anything! Normally I wouldn’t let one bad experience result in a bad review. However when we eventually decided to leave they made us pay for our drinks! If you can’t comp the drinks at a table you’ve left sitting for over 40 minutes you’ve got bigger problems than your kitchen!
