Too Fat Sandwiches

Thirsday, Friday, and Saturday they have an amazing tri-​tip sandwich. The bread on all sandwiches is always fresh. The soups are amazing. I have only been to this downtown location and I must say that it is a great place to have lunch. Sometimes the crowds are a little busy around lunchtime but there aren’t many options for lunch in downtown Bakersfield. This is a must try. All sandwiches are made fresh so the wait is a little bit but defiantly doable on a one hour lunch break.

Usually like this place but the beef dip was so uninspired I had to post. The meat looked as if it was a pressed beef like Arby’s :-(I should have taken a pic. The au jus was delicious and hot! Which was a plus. I’ll be back sammies are usually bomb! Just not the beef dip.

Sandwiches are good, but take forever to be made. It’s not very busy, either. One person already demanded a refund because it took so long to get his order.
My single sandwich to go order took 16 minutes. 2 other people here. Crazy.

This place has horrible customer service !! I work at a store giving customer service and no matter the situation the CUSTOMER is always right! They over charged me and I called wanting to talk to a supervisor she said she was the supervisor there and was arguing back with me did not even apologize about the situation! Just the bad service makes you never want to go back!!!

This place has great sandwiches fresh bread fresh cut meat you won’t be disappointed I would try all three locations they’re consistent with their food quality ample parking in front of all places very busy at lunchtime so try to get there early if you like great sandwiches I think they’re one of the best but that’s only my opinion so give them a try

What horrible service today. We usually order out from too fat at least once or twice a month for pickup in the last few months were great until today. Was short 5 sandwiches and wanted to charge us for a sandwich we didn’t get and argued about it. Let’s see, out of 18 sandwiches ordered and paid for we received 13… Well, we did check off this place for any future business luncheons.

Went here for lunch very cute place. I had the chef salad only made with tuna salad it was very good. Husband had the house special sandwich and he really liked it. The Dutch crust bread is really good.

This place has great food for the the most part, but some sandwiches need another type of bread to with stand the juices and sauces other wise it becomes a messy soggy non edible mess. There place is clean and feels homey which I like. Employees are mostly nice. Not my favorite place also the tri tip needs more seasonings.

I chose Too Fat to cater my wedding because I had previously been to a wedding that had them and it was delicious! We got to pick our food from a wide variety of options they offered which was nice to be able to customize our menu. We set up an appointment for a tasting which was absolutely delicious. We knew right then that we were certain we wanted to have them cater this food for our guests. We were having a wedding for about 175 people so it was nice they were able to accommodate this large party. The prices were very reasonable and our guests loved the food! They even included an infused water bar also with coffee, & pink lemonade. The staff from Too Fat was super friendly to all our guests and even helped assisting in passing out champagne for the toasts! I would highly recommend Too Fat for any catering event you have. They are phenomenal!!!

There’s no where to start but the Holland Dutch Crust bread. Seriously, one of my favorite sandwich breads ever! Soft with a crunchy tasty top! Oh, so good! As you might now by now, I could be French based on my food preferences. I could live off of bread, cheese, grapes, and maybe a glass of wine once in a while! This bread is a good one. :)
They have a great selection of hot and cold sandwiches, paninis, salads, daily soups, a few sides (potato, macaroni, and pasta salad), and desserts (including cookies, brownies, chocolate cake, and cheesecake!!). They also cater (with a much larger menu of options) for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
This location is a little larger than the others but it still gets busy. I like to arrive as close to 11:30 as possible to beat the noon lunch rush.
I’m not surprised they’ve been open on F Street since 1984! Good, friendly service plus yummy sandwiches on delicious Holland Dutch Crust bread are a great combination for a successful sandwich shop! Give them a try! But PLEASE, make sure to have your sandwich on their house-​made Holland Dutch Crust bread! :)

Too Fat’s just catered my daughter’s wedding and I had to write a review since I have received many complements on the food. We had a wedding for 300 guests that included a cocktail hour and appetizers. They food was not only delicious, but displayed in beautiful serving dishes and platters. They refilled as people were taking the food and never ran out of anything.
The dinner followed about 40 minutes later and was just as well done. Serving 300 guests with buffet lines can easily go wrong, but not with Too Fat’s. All the guests received their food quickly and had plenty of it. The tri-​tip was super tender and the chicken was juicy and had great flavor. We also had cheesy potatoes, rice pilaf, salad, etc, we are a family that loves to eat.
Dealing with Rick, Luke and Sharee was a pleasure. We met once to taste and set the menu, once more to finalize the count and see the set-​up area and it ended in a hassle free, beautiful and tasty wedding dinner.
I have also used them for other catering events and am never disappointed, nor have I ever had food I didn’t like. I seriously have tried meatloaf, lasagna (vegetarian and meat version), and countless other dishes over the years and never found one I didn’t like. The servers are professional, give a lot of food and it is always the correct temperature. They will remain one of my go-​to caterers for events.

In all honesty this is the best place in Bakersfield to eat a sandwich. If you go to one of those commercial /​chain sandwich shops, it’s nothing compared to this place. Everytime we come to Bakersfield we always make it a point to stop here for lunch.

I have been going here a few times now and have fallen in love with the Holland Dutch Crust bread. It is so unique and not found anywhere else I have been. The Turkey Breast-​Swiss Cheese Fresh Avocado Cold Sandwich is amazing as well. If you ever stop by, make sure to try out that sandwich. It is their number one seller and I see why.

Too Fat is on our regular lunch rotation for the past year. They have decent food and service is generally quick and friendly.
I usually end up with the Too Fat special and it has yet to disappoint. The sandwich is served on Dutch Crunch bread which is soft doughy bread with a crunchy crumble on the outside. The bread is the star of the show here.
I had a aversion to Too Fat based on the first sandwich I had here, the pastrami. The hot sandwiches seem to be made then steamed to melt the cheese. This absolutely destroys the bread leaving is a soggy mess. If you get a hot sandwich the panini press is a much better option for melting the cheese.

I had the Pastrami with the salsa and avocado, I don’t remember what it was called. It tasted really good, but the bread was extremely soggy, which i didn’t like. I went in during the lunch hour, and it was pretty busy, but the line moved fairly quickly. Sometime during my meal I looked in my drink and saw that there was a gnat in my drink, so I went and exchanged it for a new cup. I guess it’s partially my fault though since I wasn’t using a lid. I also got a pasta salad which was drowned in olive oil and vinegar. It was okay, but it’s not my favorite.
The best part of the whole visit was watching some older ladies play cards in the corner. They were complimenting each other at their plays, it was pretty cute. «Ohhh goood move girl!» «Nice one!»
Anyways, I’ll probably be back to try more food off the menu.

My first experiences were bland and uninspired. Then friends kept raving about them and I tried it again, on my own and with groups, both on location and delivery. I’m perplexed because it’s just «meh» but people go nuts for this place. Do you people not know what a good sandwich tastes like? I mean, this isn’t bad food but there’s so much better out there. It’s always clean, the staff are always nice and cheerful. The service is never slow. It’s just low on the flavor.

Dutch Crunch. Remember those words when you order. Forget white, wheat, sourdough, french. It’s all about that sweet delicious Dutch bread.
It’s one of the few places in town that has this fabulous bread! And just for that, I will always be a patron.
I can honestly say I’ve only ever had one sandwich here, and that’s the meatball marinara. It’s infinitely better than Subway, and not just because of the Dutch bread. The marinara sauce is thick and slightly sweet. And they don’t coat the sandwich so it’s impossible to hold. There’s loads of melted cheese, and the meatballs are the perfect size so it doesn’t require a knife and fork.
This location can be very busy during lunch. But there is more room than the others if you choose to dine in. I hear their pastrami is pretty good, so we’ll save that for next time. On Dutch Crunch of course!

I love that they have a range of choices from soups to salads and sandwiches. The portions are generous and tasty. I am only giving this place four stars because they are not the best sandwiches around, but the Killer Pastrami and Tri Tip sandwiches (two different sandwiches) might be among the best (and messiest) sandwiches in Bakersfield. I come here about once every three months and am tempted by the cookies, side salads, and other goodies they sell. I almost always use a
certificate and am seldom disappointed in my choices here. I think you’ll enjoy this place, too.

Not impressed. This was utterly disappointing… all the rave reviews I’ve heard is so wrong. I ordered their whole «Hot Pastrami» and it was puny, the pastrami was approximately 4oz. & no cheese! I’m sorry but if you call yourselfs «Too Fat Sandwiches» please act accordingly!!! I’ll never come here again! I’d pay more at Sequoia than come here again. Maybe thats why they have an empty shop. Tip, if your hungry don’t order the whole. They have another size up a jumbo I believe but I will not risk it. Flavor is much better at Sequoia.
Not impressed!

My first time online ordering and going to this place as well. Oh my what an experience! Picked up my sandwich at 1:00pm, as specified on my online order. All i had to do was pay the rest (had a
coupon, but was granted $ 5 off for ordering online) and pick my combo! The
coupon is good for later use, so yay!
The sandwich is impressive! I ordered beef dip (was intrigued by the au jus) and i was not dissapointed! For the price especially with the coupon, I’m definitely going for more! Next time I’m trying something else and I’ll have to see if it’s the same level as my first sandwich.
