Sweet treats plus lovely, unique gifts. It really is fun to come check out the goodies in this store. It’s way more than your typical bakery! I love checking out the jewelry, smelling the candles(they carry Voluspa brand), looking at the clothes, and eyeing the seasonal décor. So much cute stuff! Plus, on your way out stop by the case and get something for your sweet tooth. Giada and Oprah are right – both the matterhorn cake and lemon white chocolate cake truly are delicious and special in their own way. I also enjoy all their seasonal pumpkin specialties; their pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are yum. They also have a nice selection of greeting cards and baby gifts. Check out this fantastic, local Bakersfield business.

Love this place. The cookies are chewy on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. Stop by anytime I’m in town for cookies and a few cupcakes and the giftshop has cute easy gift items. Bought a full carrot cake for a family gathering recently. It was worth the price because it’s huge and the quality of the product is there. The carrot cake is full of nuts and raisins while the cream cheese frosting makes it rich and yummy.

I used to crave their Italian cream cake. It was worth $ 6.00 per slice. The last two visits it appears something has changed. The first time I just thought it was an off day. But now that it’s happened again, I think they have changed ingredients. The rich buttery decadence isn’t there. The recipe is different. The Matterhorn cake tastes different too. It’s too bad. I used to really enjoy their cakes. They still taste good, but the wow factor is gone :(

Yummiest n cutest ever. The cookies were super delish. The cupcakes are super moist and delicious. The brownie omg to die for. The crème Brule not the best. The tres leche doesn’t taste like tres leche so not very yum. But everything else was super great tasting.

I grew up going to this place and it was always a treat. Tracy is amazing and has become a family friend for life. I will pass this memory down to my family and my children as well.

Usually, a trip to Sweet Surrender is all about the cupcakes. This time ’round, we thought we’d try some of the candy. Besides being way too overpriced($ 3.50/piece), it was a total disappointment. We tried the peanut cup with Himalayan salt — umm, no! Could barely taste the peanut butter. Also, tried the toffee. Toffee wasn’t bad, but still not the best. Think I’ll save my pennies for Sees Candies. The red velvet cupcakes are DIVINE! We are tiramisu lovers/snobs, so we decided to try some. Where in the world was the espresso? All we got was a fork full of lady fingers and mascarpone cheese — which we love, but really missed the ball on this one for sure! Won’t order the tiramisu from here again.

I’m by no means a frosting type of person. I actually hate frosting, but this place makes the frosting so delicious. So creamy and smooth! The cupcake taste like a cupcake, then again I havn’t tried all of the cupcakes. Just the pink one and one with almonds on it. Would suggest pink cupcake above all other cupcakes because of the frosting’s deliciousness

I usually hate eating cupcakes out. I come from a family of exceptional home cooks, and being raised on high quality baked goods leaves me disappointed with most purchased options. HOWEVER, this place is fantastic! The cakes and cupcakes I tried were all moist, sweetened just right, and full of flavor. Even the plain white on white cupcake was awesome! They are truly a cut above the competition. My favorites were the pumpkin, matterhorn(featured on the Food Network), white on white, raspberry almond, and chocolate on chocolate. GOHERENOW

I have ordered over the phone from this place many times but I had never actually been inside because I live out of state. Today, however, I was in town for my best friend’s 30th birthday. I ordered a funfetti cake over the phone that morning and had it for pick up between 11 and 12. We came by to pick it up around 11:45 and it was already ready for us. I have to say that they make ordering very easy! You can call and order/pay over the phone and you can even have your order customized according to the occasion, and delivered! Anyway, the inside of the place is awesome! It is half a bakery and half a boutique, which I love. You can buy baked goods, cards, clothing, funny little gifts, and jewelry! In addition to our birthday cake, we bought a pink champagne cake pop, Neiman Marcus bar, a lemon bar, and some new salted caramel chocolate bar they were debuting that day. We also bought(weirdly enough) a bean bag pillow that looked like a taco. LOL. So awesome! The only reason I took off a star is because, as other reviews have mentioned, some of the staff is rude. Initially, I was asked if I needed help and I said that I had ordered a cake for pick up. The girl asked if I needed anything else(while sounding mildly annoyed). I turned away for a split second to ask my best friend if he wanted anything else and by the time I turned back to answer, the girl was no longer listening. I literally started talking and stopped mid sentence once I realized that she was talking to her coworker and no longer paying attention. However, the girl who helped check us out was very nice! Her name was Larissa. She was super patient with our many questions and knowledgable about the products. I am a repeat customer so of course I will be back, but some employees that work here(the girl I interacted with, for example), may need a lesson in customer service.

Matterhorn cake or cupcake, red velvet, pink champagne, mint, turtle, lemon, Avalanche, cookies and it goes on. If you enjoy a sweet moist cupcake or cake for dessert, this is the place for you! This place was featured on the Food Network station for their Matterhorn cake, and yes, it does live up to the hype. The staff is very friendly with great service. They also sample their cupcakes for you to try as well. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy yourself a cup of coffee. They also have a shop with all kinds of home décor to Childrens goodies and old fashion candy. The only thing I would have to say could be a challenge is seating. They do have tables and chairs but very limited. It is best to buy yourself a dozen and take it with you. I bring all of my out of town guests to this place for them to experience. Not one negative comment from them. This is definitely a go to dessert place for Bakersfield. Highly recommend without a doubt! Enjoy!

Oh sweet baby Jesus. The treats at Sweet Surrender are a sugary dose of heaven. The shop is a cute mix of desserts and hand-lettered crafts. On the dessert side, I had the vanilla cheesecake and frosted brownie during my last stop in. SOGOOD. I especially loved the vanilla cheesecake. It was a little cheesecake cupcake topped off with whip cream and a cherry. It wasn’t too heavy but also not too light. It was a perfect consistency and I loved it. The brownie was also really good. I love that it was topped with a smooth, chocolatey frosting. During this fall season, they’ve got pumpkin everything! The pumpkin cheesecake looked delicious! On the shop side, they’ve got a lot of cute gift items for your gal pals! Cute and clever hand-lettered signs line the walls with various gifts for moms, brides and best friends!

The name of the company says it all. They sell delicious sweet desserts, the people working the counter are always friendly, very clean and they are located in an excellent location just in case you don’t want anyone seeing you on cheat day.

My bf is from Bakersfield, so we come here once in a while to visit his family. I was surprised to see that it was listed on the show, «The best thing I ever ate». Giada mentioned the matterhorn cake which is a chocolate layered cake with vanilla frosting. That’s one of my favorite combinations so I knew I had to try it. I ended up buying a few things to try, because everything looked so good. They had several cakes slices for sale but I came here for The Matterhorn. It was super moist and reminded me of a sprinkles black and white cupcake. I almost tried their Hawaiian and chocolate chip and Walnut cookies. Both were amazing!!! The chocolate chip one was thick and moist! I also bought a bag of their day old coconut macaroon cookies which were okay. If you like coconut though, it’s perfect for you. I also had the smores and turtle cupcake. The chocolate cake was good in both. The turtle was too hard to eat, because the topping was literally like eating a piece of turtle chocolate. It’s a must stop for all dessert lovers! You’ll definitely find something you like or a bunch of things!

Dang, this is much more than a bakery! I brought my 7-year-old niece here a couple weeks ago to «help me pick out some cupcakes» and she was so busy checking out the party stuff that I had to make the cupcake decisions all by myself. Not only can you get delicious cupcakes and baked goods here, you can get all sorts of gifts, greeting cards, party supplies, and even some clothing & sandals. The baked goods, of course, were far more interesting to me so I stuck with their calling card — the amazing cupcakes. Their flavors are apparently on some sort of weekly schedule, the Avalanche is(I believe) their bestseller and an easy reason to make a stop here — rich chocolate cake, buttercream frosting — but I was a bigger fan of the s’mores. Just like there used to be a world before $ 4 cups of coffee, there was a world before $ 4 cupcakes… but was it really worth it?

One of my absolute favorite places to pick up a treat for that special someone. Yes the«sweets» are amazing but the little gems they have throughout the store are amazing. Lotions, candles, home décor, gifts and lovely boutique apparel. You can find something for everyone here. The staff is always cheerful and very helpful.

I don’t live in Kern County anymore, but I wanted a cake for my mom’s graduation from BC. A week before the graduation I called and placed an order for a 9″ Matterhorn cake. On the day of the graduation, I showed up and the cake was ready to go. I paid over the phone, and all I had to do was walk out with my cake. Wooohoo! The cake was good, the service was great, and I plan to give my money to this local establishment in the future. I’ve been fortunate enough to receive cupcakes as gifts from Sweet Surrender, but this was my first time as a paying customer. Be sure to give yourself some time to look at all of the gifts they have in the store!
