Menu had lots of variety. Food was just ok though. Interesting atmosphere. Service was great though!

We were seated at 10:30 and got our food an hour later. Our server was very nice but there seemed to be some miscommunication. We asked for a bacon, egg & cheese biscuit. They were out of biscuits so we asked for toast. Instead of getting a bacon, egg & cheese on toast. they only brought out toast :-/There were only three other tables. so it wasn’t busy at all. The Bloody Mary is very good. Overall our food was good but the wait was way too long.

Um they only had one vegetarian option on the menu, the veggie burger… which they were out of. They’re clam chowder was watery and flavorless and the waitress was very unhelpful with alternatives to their meat centric menu. I won’t be coming back and you shouldn’t even bother, the high prices don’t warrant such a terrible result.

Went here for both lunch and dinner one night. Atmosphere is a little outdated, feels like the place isn’t very clean(arms were sticking to the table cloths which felt incredibly sticky). The lunch menu was awesome, my whole group thoroughly enjoyed everything they got. Great choices on the lunch menu. Now for dinner… not so great, only choices really are seafood and pasta. And since they have seperate menus, you cant order anything off the lunch menu… when asked, they claimed they«turned the grill off so they can’t cook anything off the lunch menu»… which makes no sense because idk how they prepared our dinner meals… pretty disappointing because the lunch menu is literally 10 times better than dinner menu. do not waste your time going for dinner. would of gave higher rating if dinner went better

Just had a great breakfast. Large portion breakfast special. Waiter was great. Haven’t had dinner here in years, might try next visit.

I was recommended this place by more than one person as a place not to miss while vacationing in NC. I’m not sure if it was just and off night, but the food was way, way below the standards I had expected. I had a special of shrimp scampi with steamed vegetables and I’m pretty sure the vegetables were frozen before they were«cooked». The shrimp scampi was pretty good, but honestly that could have just been my love of butter and garlic? Not sure. This may have just been an off night, or the food was subpar because it was technically off season? But they should really close in the off season if they’re not going to be putting their best foot forward. EDIT: I dined in September 2015.

Alright, let’s preface this by pointing out that there were only 2 waiters for the entire restaurant during our visit. A terrible choice for the management to make on a Sunday night. The service was really lacking. The restaurant had a decent crowd, too. Let’s talk food, now. I ordered the Hatteras chowder, as I often do when we’re in the Outer Banks. Never before have I had it when it was almost inedible. The Froggy Dog version is filled wth potatoes and a few clams, but the broth is overwhelmingly filled with hot sauce. This is the worst iteration of the chowder I have ever come across. All you could taste was hot sauce. The half pound steamed shrimp I had was OK, if a bit overcooked. There are better to be had at other places. My son had the fried flounder and it was done well. Same for my wife’s sautéed shrimp. The sides, though were lacking. Canned beans, food service potato salad. Really no excuse for the prices they charge. Overall the Froggy Dog was a disappointment and more expensive than other, better places in Avon.

Unbelievable ! It’s 10:20am we walk in to eat breakfast. They say they are serving breakfast until 11am and the bald host says,” we can’t serve you because we are so busy and lunch doesn’t start until 11am”. I asked to speak to manager and he refused to allow me to talk to the manager. I asked if manager was there and he said yes but he is busy. Several people came out saying, «don’t worry food tastes like crap and service is horrible». Glad we didn’t waste our time. Don’t waste your time or money here.

Just showed up for breakfast at 10:45 a.m. on a Saturday morning… Told they are no longer serving breakfast… and lunch will start serving at 12… apparently they’re extremely busy… but there only a half a dozen cars in the parking lot? I know from past experience that this restaurant is one of the worst if not the worst option available, but breakfast is generally dummy proof and the Froggy Dog is within walking distance… way to go, and unsatisfied customer that wasn’t even served.

Went before the dinner rush. The food was good,(had the fresh fish if the day and the crab cakes) fresh fish had a ton of bones but was seasoned well. Then waited longer than it took to get my food to pay my bill. It felt like I was forgotten. Would have bought from the gift shop but left with really sour taste in my mouth due to service.

Stopped after getting to our rental house. Reasonably priced, food was good, service decent. Good place to unwind after a 12 hour drive.

Me and the crew hit the«f-dog» and were surprised by the great service and the value. The catch of the day(whiteing) was excellent. This is not a high end restaurant but if you want some local fresh fish at a good price stop in and have a bite.

Slow service, just ok food and the décor and music were straight out of the 90s(not in a good way). Drive on by.

I only gave this place one star because I had to give it something to write a review. Avoid this place and save your money. Tea was instant tea and when we went to place order you were not allowed to order any item off the lunch menu(it was 4:30) tried to order from pub menu because nothing I wanted on dinner menu and was told we couldn’t unless we sat in bar. Finally decided on just ordering appetizers and was told they were out of the items we ordered. We paid for drinks and left. No wonder the parking lot was empty.

Beer was cold but one of our party ordered an orange crush and I watched as the bartender just poured orange juice in vodka. Knowledgable? Not really. Service was short handed and was not good on our visit there. The food might be good but without good customer service, we and 5 other families that were with us won’t go back.

My family and I checked in over an hour ago. If not for the traffic jam on the main road we would have left. The manager refuses to see us and the waitress is unapologetic even after telling us the food was coming 15 minutes ago. Overall the place has the look of a typical seafood dive in a tourist town. If in Avon and looking for food I recommend the Mad Crabber or Dirty Dicks over this place. I think this establishment remains in business is due to the turnover of clientele. This is our second visit. The first, while slow, was nothing close to this. We gave them the benefit of the doubt due to the lunch hour. We are leaving at this point without challenge. The one mandatory star is generous.

The menu is robust, the food was just okay. It was the most expensive dinner that we’ve had(by a few dollars) and not near the quality of some of the other places we’ve been this week. We ordered an appetizer sampler that cost 13.99 and had three each of pickle spears, cheese sticks, chicken fingers and boneless wings. Not really what we were e peering for the price. While the waitress was very personable, we saw only one waitress who could not reasonably serve the entire dining room. She was the bright spot in the experience.

Planned a night at The Froggy Dog to participate in karaōke. The beer was cheap and the song selection was huge. The kitchen was closed and it was only a little after 9, so we didn’t get to try any food. The décor is fun and beachy and there is plenty of seating for busy nights. We really enjoyed the karaōke, the host was fun and had everyone up several times. I would return back next time I’m in the area.
