Got the name and number from HSA Home Warranty. I then checked their website and it stated that Five Star Garage Doors service was available 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week Proudly Serving: Northeast Ohio, including Akron, Ashland, Ashtabula, Avon, Avon Lake, Canton, Cleveland, Middleburg Heights, North Olmsted, Parma, Shaker Heights, Solon, Strongsville, & Westlake. However it did not show any local Columbus neighborhoods. I called any way. I explained to the gentleman that I got on the phone, that I had a garage door that was stuck half way open and that a roller had come off. He said that the soonest that he could have someone here was in 4 days. I explained again that the door was stuck half way open and asked about the 24⁄7 claim on the website. He said that was for non HSA claims. If I wanted to pay his full rate he could have someone here tomorrow.

American Home Shield our Home Warranty contracted with Five Star to repair our garage door spring. Upon calling us to make the initial appointment Five Star stated that our policy did not cover the garage door spring, although we have no way of knowing or confirming this. They told us they could still come out and fix it and it would be $ 150 total and they would cancel the $ 75 service call though American Home Shield. We agreed and they came out a few days later. The technician ended up calling the day of and asking to come a few hours early so I changed my plans and obliged. He arrived even earlier than requested so he was in my drive before I got home. As I walked up to the door to lead him inside and show the garage he asked, «Did your husband talk with you about the price?» I found it an odd way to start a conversation referencing my husband instead of just asking if I was aware of the costs. I said indeed he did it’s $ 150 total right? The technician then said that no there was a $ 60 Five Star service fee on top of that. I was clear that this was not discussed with us and the total price was quoted as $ 150. I made it clear that we weren’t okay with the sudden hidden charge and asked for the technician to call back and speak with whomever we had originally spoken with. He said it was him although the voice did not sound at all the same. He stood there then asked if we were going forward with it without additional comments or acknowledgements that maybe we had indeed been given a different quote. When I asked how this sudden $ 60 fee was saving us any money, which had been the exact line the person giving us the original quote used, he stated that the home warranty service fee was $ 75 so they were saving us $ 15. We felt quite duped and were getting a very unprofessional feeling. If they were willing to change the price and not offer even a basic common courtesy that we had been told otherwise then we wondered how good the actual fix would be and if they would stand behind their work. When the original $ 150 quote was given we checked local prices and that was the exact amount being quoted elsewhere and those places confirmed no hidden fees or service charges. I stated that we did not want to move forward with the work. The technician became upset, angry., and unprofessional. He then said, «well you’ll owe $ 75 still and your home warranty will bill you.» I told him that wasn’t what we were told on the phone as we were told the service call had been canceled. This seemed like petty retribution. I stated that I wasn’t okay with being billed for a cancelled service call and the only reason work wasn’t being done was because they changed the quote upon arrival. I had a neighbor at the house who witnessed the entire conversation and she agreed it seemed very strange and unprofessional. The tech then left our property having never touched the garage door but only after placing a bill for $ 75 in our mailbox and then sitting in the driveway for 15 minutes. We had the garage door fixed that day from a local company for $ 150 no hidden fees. The same evening our phone rang and it was Five Star Garage Door. There was a female receptionist on the line and she asked if we wanted to schedule an appointment to repair the door. She then stated it was covered by our AHS warranty plan and would be $ 75 total. At this point we paid the $ 150 to another company to repair our door after they told us it wasn’t covered. Not only are we out that whole $ 150 but now I have a bill from my Home Warranty for $ 75 service fee for this ridiculous incident. Beware: Shady practices, changing prices, poor communication, and unprofessional responses.

I called them to come fix a non-functioning garage door opener. The tech arrives(he was pretty young — maybe 18 years old) and was fumbling around with the opener and garage door(didn’t seem to know what he was doing). He couldn’t get the garage door manually opened, and was basically hanging on the door trying to get it open. That’s when I heard a big snap(the torsion spring system gave out) and the garage door slammed shut. Then he goes to his car to call his boss for like 15 minutes. He comes back trying to make it seem like it was broken before he got here saying that the garage door was broken because the spring system was broken which he just had broke!!! that’s when I lost it. After 15 minutes of arguing I just wanted my garage door fixed, so I calmed down a bit and said that I had a new opener for him to replace it with, and he refused to replace my opener unless I bought one from his company(which started at $ 415!!!). This company is the worse company I have dealt with in years. I would avoid this company if at all possible. I hope this review helps others avoid the experience I had.

The most unprofessional group I’ve encountered in a long time. They broke my door installing an opener. It was stuck halfway down. My house was left not secured. When i called for them to fix it they did not get back to me in a timely manner. Once they finally called they wanted to charge me for the door they broke and it was going to be days before they could fix it. The girl on the phone named Salem, claimed to be a manager and was nasty and unprofessional. She gave the phone to a supposed technician that sounded like a weasely high school student that wouldn’t give me his name and was snotty and no help. I asked to speak to an owner or manager and they wouldn’t put me through.
