I have been to lots of diners and this one is at par with others as long as food is concerned.

The food was pretty tasty. The coffee was surprisingly delicious. The service was ok. I walked in while it was a little busy then it only got busier after. I was by myself and was seated in the corner so i felt a little ignored. In fact I wasn’t helped at all until a few ladies came in together and were seated next to me. Its kinda a neighborhood place where you pop in for the food and leave on to the rest of your day. Not really the kinda place where they make you feel at home.

Come early and expect to wait. This place has incredibly reasonable prices for very scrumptious food. Don’t expect to be blown away by the service as this place like so many on Avalon is understaffed during their busiest times. That being said I would absolutely return. Everything was fresh and delicious. Well worth the wait and well I would give it a four star on the mainland it was one of the best meals I had all weekend on Avalon.

Best place for breakfast in the island. Food was upstanding and flavorful. Friendly staff and good service. I don’t give them five stars because they put Cornstarch on my French Toast instead of powder sugar but, they brought me a new dish and they got it right the second time. But, overall everything went good. I’ll come back to this place next time I visit the Island.

We came here because our hotel we stayed at offered a 10% off discount to eat here. Which I forgot to use. I had the breakfast burrito which was very large, good, and filling. Ask them to add onion… that’s the secret missing ingredient. The bathroom is super cute with old school pinups on the wall. If you’re on the island and need a decently priced place to eat, that serves decent food, I recommend Original Jack’s.

This was our go to spot for breakfast during our stay over the New Years holiday. The atmosphere is great, the hostess that greeted us was awesome and the food. oooh the food was delish, delish, delish! We were on the island for 3 days and enjoyed breakfast from the country kitchen before we would head out for our daily adventures. If Original Jack’s was on the mainland — Denny’s and IHOP would have to really work to get my business… I can’t wait to get back to Catalina and definitely to head to Original Jack’s!

This place is so awesome. A group of friends and I came to this restaurant twice for our time here and the consistency of service and food were nonetheless better than our last visit. The same waiter took care of us for both days with great enthusiasm. He actually remembered or order just for fun. In regards to food, yesterday we ordered the french toasted combo with Portuguese sausage and two eggs. Today we ordered the waffle combo with the same sides as the french toast. If I were to come back, I would definitely order the waffles again, but don’t get me wrong, the french is also worth a try. All in all, this place is very friendly with great customer service. My goto spot for the island. P. s. The gentleman by the name of Ricardo took care of us 5⁄5 stars

I honestly love this place. My fiancé and I came here twice during our recent visit to Catalina Island. We did our research online and Unilocal did not disappoint. Original Jack’s is probably the most solid breakfast place on the island. The first time we came we had to wait about 20 minutes which wasn’t too bad. The second time we came there wasn’t await at all which I think was pure luck. I would say count on a wait since Original Jack’s isn’t a secret. :) The service was friendly but probably not as present as one is use to. Food I think the key thing for me is that the hashbrowns were crispy and salty and delicious and when paired with things on their menu completely make the dish. With that being said note that everything we had and tried came with the hashbrowns. Breakfast Burrito $ 12 — Weird that they would put the beans on the side but solid Catalina Veggie Omelette $ 13 — a hit when ordered with the hollandaise sauce Applewood Smoked Benedict $ 15 — like i said that hollandaise sauce is on point Bay Shrimp Benedict $ 15 — Probably my favorite thing we ordered. The shrimp had a little crunch, the hollandaise had a little tang, and the hashbrowns killed it! Note They charge $ 0.50 for a water bottle due to the drought. However, if you have your own drinks they are open to you drinking those. :)

Of the restaurants on the island, this is a cute diner serving good food. It’s an extensive menu and is definitely breakfast focused. It’s kitschy, it’s charming, servers are darlings, it’s a good spot and a solid 3.5*. A must visit while you’re on the island for a longer breakfast in my opinion.

Great Breakfast, Great Server, Great Value. We spent three days on Catalina and ate breakfast three different places. Wish we had eaten here first. It is certainly eclectic, and a bit over the top on the kitsch, but our experience was very positive. It’s a breakfast place for people that enjoy an interesting breakfast, not just the same old eggs and toast. The portions were more than generous, and everything we tried, including the coffee was very tasty. So lets start with the food. The Portuguese French Toast was so good we both ate the whole serving, a rarity in a big breakfast place. It’s made with a thick cut sweet bread, egg dipped and grilled to a golden color. Nothing special about the syrup, nothing wrong with it either. Just good. I had bacon, apple smoked and actually well cooked, not limp but not so crispy it was leather tough either. Also had eggs over, and they we large, well formed and actually over easy. Very good flavor and not soaked in grease. The coffee was good, as in really very drinkable. Some breakfast places, most really, don’t specialize in good coffee, but Jack’s sure did. Refills were frequent and there was a selection of sweeteners, not just sugar and saccharin, as was the case in several locations on the island. Really saccharin, get over it. As a note, the pepper and salt are both available in table grinders a nice touch. The pepper was also a blend variety and had a nice fresh taste. Service was great. I had read it was a bit on the rough side but that was not the case we found. Ana, our server was attentive and helpful, she was there with a refill when we needed one. She was busy, and kept moving, but never neglected us. She welcomed us as if we were old friends, and I was very pleases. Tip your server, they work hard. Thanks Ana. This was also a place for the locals. They aren’t hard to spot. Says something about the food and service. This is a town that is tourist-centric, I found a lot of shops and restaurants seemed to train their staff in rudeness and ignoring the customer. Not the case here. Finally, cost. This is an Island, and everything is shipped over. It is also, as mentioned, a tourist destination. Jack’s is not your 8 dollar breakfast. You can pretty much count on about $ 15 per person. Maybe more. But in all, this was one of the times I felt that I got value for the price.

I personally the food itself is just okay. The service was a bit slow and i had to flag down someone to refill my coffee a couple of times. My man’s steak dish just looked like a patty and some eggs. Just not completely worth it. but than again your at a little island so if this is consider good i don’t know what would be bad. At the end of it all i did get a sweet Birthday cake and song from the people there which bumped up a 2 to a 3 ! i really loved that part!

Absolutely wonderful establishment in Catalina with great service and staff! I’ve realized that customer service here on the island is not spectacular but for the first time on our trip, we received amazing service from Ana! I was super impressed with how expedient she was and also how friendly she was with us! She was so natural at chatting with us but also somehow give great service to all her tables! She deserves a raise or something! I loved the food here. My fiancé loved the food here. We both got the Avalon special and mine had sausage(~$ 14) and his had steak(~$ 16). He had freshly squeezed orange juice(~$ 4 for a very large cup) and I had the most delicious Kona Coffee ever(~$ 3 with unlimited refills). All in all, I highly recommend this place for breakfast! They get super busy so come early! We were able to be seated after 5 minutes but we are early risers!

Original Jack’s was honestly a disappointment after hearing so many great things about this festive little diner. Maybe I just went on a bad day but it was unsatisfying enough to know my visit will be probably my last one. There is usually a 20+ minute wait for parties of 4 or more guest which is understandable for the popularity of this breakfast joint. Inside of Original Jacks is sort of a mad house with its decorations on the walls and waitresses zooming by which made it exciting! Our waitress knew how to shut down that excitement with her blunt attitude instantly. Waitresses are constantly on their feet and all over the place which I completely understand, but our waitress was just rude. Instead of informing me of the severe drought on the island when I asked for a water, she brought me back a hot $ 3 water bottle instead. When she came back I told her that I changed my mind about the water. She then snatched the bottle from the table and said rudely” we have a drought going on!” and then stormed off. When it came to the food, all of our orders took about 40 minutes except my friend’s burger which took literary 70 minutes to be served after everyone was done! She said it was appetizing but not worth the wait! The best items were the Loaded Hash Browns, Pancakes, and the Veggie Omelette! The disappointments were the cold single biscuit and gravy($ 4) and the Monte Crisco Sandwich. For style and a few delicious items, Original Jack’s was pretty decent. I just felt the wait and getting our food all at completely different times was a little ridiculous. Especially not being informed about the water situation. I felt that they were ripping off customers by automatically charging water without letting customers know about it. No thanks.

Like most of the general population, I love breakfast. There is never a bad time to have it. It is the one meal you can have guiltlessly because hey, it’s the most important meal of the day(whenever you do have it). Or that’s what I tell myself at least. I had been to Jack’s many moons ago and was pretty excited to be back here for a revisit. My boat literally had just docked, I was swept up by the hubby in a golf cart, with luggage in hand, he drove me straight to Jack’s. Ah he knows me so well. I walked in, hadn’t even sat down before I opened up that menu. Previous to this day, my hubbs pretty much ate here at least once a day. I ordered something ‘parenthesized’ as a protein plate. It had 2 eggs, 2 sasuage, 2 bacon, potatoes, ham and a biscuit with gravy. Oh and I also got pancakes. Oh man was I ready for that meal. I even had the audacity to ask my hubbs ‘oh you aren’t getting anything for yourself?‘ My order came up shortly after and we headed straight to Descanso beach club so I could grub by the ocean. Opened up my container and started chipping away at my meal, and finished most of it. The biscuit was a bit on the dry, chalky side but at least the gravy was notably good, extra peppery and rich. Wasn’t a fan of their pancakes, but overall a great meal… so great that I came back two hours later. And then the day after.
