A happy surprise in a little gem of a café! The food is fresh and flavorful and the lady was very cheerful and welcoming. The brewed teas were delicious too. My turkey sandwich tasted like Thanksgiving… so good!

My kind of place… good eats on a budget! My husband and I just got to Avalon & had no particular plans but just to be together. We were hungry and thanks to Unilocal,I discovered Café Metropole. There were not too many places to choose from this 1X1 mile island but luckily we found this place!

I had the Caprese sandwich — really good, fresh. Hint of basil was nice & peppery. Quick service. Nice little patio w/good shade

I loved my experience here! The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious! We made it as part of our plans when we were on the island. They have a cute outdoor patio where you can enjoy the sun and listen to live music. I had the combo with broccoli cheddar soup and a tuna sandwich. The tuna sandwich was good but the soup was amazing! My fiancé’s Argentinean beef sandwich was pretty good too! The couscous that it came with was really delicious! If we were to come back, we would definitely stop by again!

I feel like this place is highly overrated… Came here because of all the favorable reviews touting Café Metropole as the best place on the island for affordable, healthy, and yummy food. Sure, it’s affordable at about $ 10/salad or sandwich, and sure it’s on the healthy side compared to everything else, but idk about yummy… It tastes worse than my school’s cafeteria food. I had a turkey cranberry salad and there was an ok amount of turkey but very little cranberries to be found and even fewer avocado bits… That were sort of hard and not very good tasting. The dressing I got(cranberry walnut) was also very nondescript and had no walnuts in it??? Maybe it’s not supposed to have any but I was pretty disappointed as I felt like I essentially paid $ 10 for a lot of romaine lettuce, a few pieces of turkey, and some sort of jam… Bf got the gyros sandwich, which was also nothing special, very small, and came broken/falling apart. Overall, not very impressed. However, Café Metropole does have some pros in that it’s basically the only place on the island that offers wifi, and the patio is a nice place to wind down and relax on a warm, sunny day. Plus, at night I think they have live music at the square/plaza the patio is located in so that’s pretty cool, I guess, but maybe just grab a drink/some juice instead of actual food if you want to chill here… I’d get one of those $ 2 tacos around the corner instead.

Nice open patio with quiet, live music. But the food was a bit dry and tasteless. Subway has better sandwiches. Overall, just not worth the price.

I stopped here to get an iced tea. The iced tea dispenser was in the fridge and there was a sign that said«cups and lids are in the fridge, it’s self serve». I look around and theres only lids. So I go up to the counter to ask the woman working there for more cups. She rudely says to me «cups are not free you pay for them.» I told her I was looking for a cup for the iced tea in the fridge. She goes«Oh well you pay first and then I give you a cup. That’s how this works.» I show her the sign and she says«Oh I forgot to take it off». No apology for her rude behavior or anything. I ask if theres any sweetener and she says«the tea is unsweetened if you feel like it you can use some lemonade as sweetener.» The tea tasted terrible. The service was horrible. The woman working there was vile. She ruined my visit to the island with her attitude.

While walking back through town after a hike up the hill for a nice view of the bay we stopped in here for a drink and snack. I was pleasantly surprised by the offerings and the fact they had some fresh brewed iced teas available as well as a lemonade. I was a bit parched and tried a few of them and opted for the mango tea and hubby decided to get food and chose one of the fresh made soups of the day and a half sandwich which was very good with fresh produce and lots of meat which he gobbled down. The lady at the counter was super nice and the menu really had a lot to offer and prices were good. They had some seating inside as well as an outside patio they would bring your order out to. If you are in town check this place out vegetarians have a lot of choices here.

The only place that offered free Wi-Fi area the area. I came off the cruise and I need to log on for work. Walk around asking the stores, the visitor center and no one seen to be helpful or know where I can get Wi-Fi. I was willing to pay. Very disappointed until I stumbled next door to this Café Metro who told me about it. So greatful. My friend has the lentil soup while waiting for me. She said it is the best lentil soup.

A great spot for a light and healthy lunch. They have a nice outdoor patio so you can sit out in the sunshine. Casual and relaxed vibes. You Oder at the counter and they will bring your food out. We had the smoked salmon sandwich and the shrimp, avocado, mango salad. Both were great and very fresh. They have a good beverage selection too including beer and wine. We got some of the homemade iced tea. The black mango and the pomegranate white. Perfect for a warm day. The waitress was also super friendly and polite. Would definitely go back!

This is not the type of place I would want to give a bad review to but here’s why… First of all, my family from out of town was visiting and with the combination of vegetarians and so forth that we had in the group, we were lucky to find this place that accommodated most of us more veggie style eaters, so Café Metropole was able to provide that AND the food was good. So the 1 star is a combination of two things… that both involve the older lady behind the counter that may possibly own the place, not sure. 1. While we were ordering, she had a very stand-offish, hurry up, «can’t be bothered with this» attitude. Since we were vegetarians, on some items we’d say, «no bacon»(on the Cobb salad) or things like that, as per her suggestion… but while we were placing the order for 4 different people, she kept getting offended by us confirming anything, she would just say«got it» in a very rude tone over and over again, but the thing was she was also helping other people in between us so we had to make sure she had it down because there was also a shellfish allergy in the group. And anyway… who wants to order from a person that seems angry and fed up with people ordering. It was literally as if she had that personality that could and should not be second guessed, it was really unnerving because you don’t want to feel guilty for asking but you also don’t want your order wrong… And here’s whee it goes wrong! 2. We get the food, its very good but she forgot one of our soups, one that she said«got it» to. It was also one we assumed we’d paid for since she took our order and was so sure about it in the first place, and I especially remember thinking that the bill was unusually high, BUT there was no itemized receipt because she did not give us one. She wrote it all down by hand and gave us the price and we just paid it. So when she came outside my dad asked he about the soup, she said she didn’t charge us for another soup and told me that she specifically remembers that I didn’t order one, however it was actually the first thing I ordered and me and her had a whole conversation about which one was better, not to mention the one she brought ou, t she handed to my dad so I know she remembers him ordering one and since we had a conversation during me ordering mine, that should be obvious enough… either way… she went back“to check”… Then… when she came back, INSTEAD of letting us know that she didn’t charge us for it and asking us if we would in fact like to purchase a second soup, she brings another one out for us with a suddenly itemized receipt and says, «You owe me 4.50, DON’T FORGET to pay it inside». Okay well first of all, our family has owned restaurants and I worked in a restaurant for many years! You don’t bring something out if someone hasn’t agreed to be charged, I turned around to my mom and said, «How can she even assume I still want it, I mean if I paid for it and didn’t get it, that’s one thing, I’ll take it but if I didn’t pay yet, it is still my choice right? So we took the soup, we of course weren’t going to say anything and would’ve just went in and paid for it, HOWEVER… with the soup she brought out this new itemized bill to prove she didn’t charge us for it, but guess what was on the bill? Only one soup but a whole other meal we never ordered! And of all of the things some sort of salad with shrimp in it. None of us eat shrimp and she of course knew that, because she said she«got it» rudely 20 times. So when my dad goes back in, I went with him just to see what she would do and she was busy with customers but when she saw him she said, «The $ 4.50, you owe me» and proceeded to ring him up but instead we made her aware of the salad she charged us for and she ended up owing us money. Honest mistakes are one thing but continuous rudeness, not giving a receipt, trying to charge us more for the soup without asking and putting an extra salad on the bill we never saw… just points to something else. I wouldn’t go so far to say it was on purpose but my mom and dad don’t think it was a mistake especially without us getting a receipt until she wanted more money for the soup.

Come here for a yummy healthy lunch on the island! Since I think I’m vegan every other day, I can appreciate places that cater to all diets. You can tell the owner takes pride in her café. Many of the items are made in house and taste very fresh. The soups were soooo tasty and the sandwiches we had were pretty good too. Fresh ice tea and lemonade as well as tons of chips and snacks you’d find at Whole Foods. I noticed a bunch of craft beers too(Estrella, Ballast Point etc) Vegans, Vegetarians and Gluten Freers this be your spot! Eco friendly plates and utensils too for Mama Earth

I love this place so much that I came back. This time I had the roasted vegetable sandwich and it was even better than I expected. This restaurant is definitely a 5 star. The ingredients are well put it together and you can tell that the chef really spends time preparing the food. I will definitely come back and I highly recommend.

Our company was on the island recently and it was my job to coordinate everything beforehand. I was referred to Pam at the Metropole by the Aurora Hotel(also awesome!) From the start, Pam was responsive and very helpful in picking what would be best for our group for lunch catering. Last minute I also asked Pam if I could add additional catering for something else and she took care of it no problem. The food was delicious, food+wraps+SOUPS+dips+cheeses…mmmm. What a great experience!

Stopped for a quiche and Thai pumpkin soup lunch. Lunch special was $ 7.50 + $ 2.50 for mango flavored iced black. My friend had the Mexicano sandwich which must have been good because she finished the whole thing. They were out if Tapatio salsa(had to ask for more) and the wait for food was about 10 — 12 minutes after ordering. Ate in the sunny outdoor patio and overall enjoyed the meal. They normally take debit/credit cards but the machine was broken today.

Finding whole food plant based meals on an island laden with fish and seafood and beef is no small challenge. Pam and her cohorts make it simple for vegans and vegetarians alike. Soups are delicious and their falafel sandwiches are the best I’ve ever had! They are warm and welcoming and oh so accommodating to your dietary needs including gluten free and vegan. Love this place. If I had a complaint(and I don’t) it would be that they aren’t open longer hours. I will eat here often and obviously WELL!

To die for! For $ 7.50 you can have a healthy lunch or early dinner. Love this place. Unique, authentic creations that will literally make your mouth water with out adding pounds to your waist line or ruining your diet altogether. Home made ice teas, soups, salads and sandwiches. Worth the money. I go there each time I visit. Give it a shot you won’t be disappointed. I believe they have wine after 4pm. I like the eggplant soup and mushroom soup. The turkey sandwich is delicious. I try something new each time. And I’m not tired of it yet. Fresh turkey, spreads, & food. She even had gluten free bread. Bön Appetit my friends to staying fit and having a good bite to eat.
