We booked the Happy Hour tour through Catalina tours. We got a voice mail 3 hours before the tour that they were canceling our tour, of course after we had scheduled everything else during the day around it. This was Friday. They called and rescheduled us for Saturday(next day) same time, we said(that sucks but) ok. Fast forward to the next day. The next day we left the beach early(again, scheduling most of the afternoon around this trip) to get showered up and go on the tour. When we got to the pier the boat wasn’t there, and no one was there to tell us what was going on. We called from our cell phones. It turns out that they cancelled our tour again without telling us. The worst part was that we heard excuse after excuse without any responsibility being taken. In the end they offered us the flying fish tour again, which is later and probably more profitable or something. I can’t believe that so much of our time was wasted on a tour that never happened. Don’t do it. Just don’t.

We didn’t get a chance to go on the cruise since we were the only two that booked with them that day. I totally understand that. What I don’t understand is the lack of communication. I booked the tour nearly 3 weeks in advance and never received a confirmation. I called a few days before we left for vacation but reception was bad and I was disconnected. No one ever called me back, so I sent an email. A day later I was told that we were the only two booked on the tour, but they were trying to get more reservations and would keep me updated. The day of our cruise I got an email saying that it was cancelled. Catalina is a tourist destination, we were there on vacation to see the island and do some fun activities. However, due to their last minute cancellation we were unable to book another event for that evening. If I had cancelled 5 hours before the tour I would have been charged full price, yet all I got from them was a «your card has not been charged» email. It just seemed very unprofessional to me.

Really fun art available here. I don’t understand all the reviews complaining about the price of the art. Have you ever bought art before? Have you ever made something by hand? It takes hours. I thought some of the work was pretty affordable considering the quality and time it must have taken to make. I also had a great time on the Flying Fish Tour. The conditions were bad for seeing the fish but the captain went to great lengths to find us some. I am coming back in August and will definitely visit the shop and take the Flying Fish Tour again!

This little gallery is very unique and packed full of fish/ocean-themed art by local artists. There is metal, glass, mixed media, painting, jewelry, and all kinds of other creations that would be difficult or impossible to find anywhere else. Tempting as it might be to wander in after something in the front window catches your eye, finish your big Olaf ice cream from across the way first because there is no food allowed in– it is a gallery after all and they don’t take kindly to sticky fingers!

The shop is super cute with tons of unique, hand-crafted fish-themed artwork, decorative items, jewelry, etc. The prices are a bit high for my budget, but the pieces are unique, quality artwork made by local artists. I ended up getting an adorable glass orange fish night light — it reminds me of the pretty garibaldi fish in Catalina. I love all the garibaldi and flying fish items in this store. The owner is super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend checking out this shop!

First off, I love that everything in this store is created by either the owner or by local artists. If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind unique gifts, this is the place to come if money is no object. Like everything else in Avalon, this place closes early, so I had to admire their merchandise from the window. When I finally went in, I was amazed at how high the prices were. The owner seemed friendly enough and told us many items were on sale, but I was afraid to even ask what the sale prices were. They have this amazing necklace that is a silver rectangle with an art deco mermaid. It’s the same design as the one painted above the Casino entryway. I still dream of this necklace and my heart sank when I saw that it was over $ 200. Maybe one day I can afford her. Cute things at this shop, but not in most people’s budgets.

Hmmm it is crazy because I see all the post about how friendly the owner is but I had a negative experience with her. I went in the store and had my ice cream and was scolded like a small child. I didn’t drop it nor was I acting careless. I hadn’t even made it through the door all the way when she was yelling. I can understand if you don’t want food in the store but there is a way to go about it… yelling at a customer is not the way to handle it. She wasn’t friendly with me at all… I don’t know maybe it has to do with my husband’s appearance. However, the day before, my husband and I spent $ 900 on the charter from that store. The charter was amazing and the captain was very friendly but because of the bad experience with the owner of the store I wouldn’t do business with this store.

I love that everything in this store was locally created. The prices are very good considering. The owner is suuuper friendly and we ended up purchasing a flying fish t-shirt with the word Catalina across it and we also went the next day to purchase some postcards, since they were so cute. The next time I come to town, I’m bringing extra spending cash for this place. I love their everything!

Afishanados is our favorite store in Avalon. We can always find something wonderful for our home, colorful tee shirts for the grand kids and last night our family took the Flying Fish boat tour on the Cadalliac. What a fantastic night! Beautiful boat, attentive staff and amazing night on the water off Catalina Island. We saw flying fish & watched a seal chase the fish. Glorious night!

FLYINGFISHTRIPREVIEW awesome time. really got money’s worth. captain is very knowledgeable of the island and the people that work in the office are amazing. we were able to see flying fish. they were no sea lions around trying to eat them so they weren’t flying in a frenzy, but we still saw some flying. it was great. we even saw them underwater with their fins open. 2 hit the boat and 1 scared another guest. But everyone had a blast. you can bring your own flashlight, but they also supply some. IFYOUWANTTOGOON A FLYINGFISHTOUR, BOOKWITHTHISCOMPANY, NOTDISCOVERYTOURS. discovery tours trip is only 45 – 50 minutes total. with this company we were out there for longer and for less money. great company.

Those fish really fly! 80 ft across the water! Karen opened the shop for us when she saw us peering in at the Flying Fish tour photos. Glad we went. They know and love Catalina so much that they want to share it with you. Gorgeous boat where you felt like family, able to move about with 30 others. Seeing fish fly was like watching fireworks. Magical end to our trip.

This is a bit of a mixed revieiw. I loved the glass art and sculptural art in the gallery, lots of fun pieces. The proprietor, she’s a charmer, very friendly. So friendly in fact that she talked my dil and I into a Father’s Day special flying fish trip. We paid and went merrily on our way to prepare for the trip. «Be at the end of the pier at 8:15» she said. We were a little early, about 8:05. There was no obvious place at the pier and about 15 minutes passed when a few others started gathering near a dock. We assumed(wrongly) that this must be the place. When we showed the captain the receipt, he said it was for Afishinados, not his charter boat. We looked and waited a bit longer when it hit us that we must have missed the boat(literally-not figuratively). I was mad and my daughter-in-law near tears… we were all very disappointed. The one thing that saved this review’s stars was that we got a full refund and I shouldn’t forget to mention, a very sincere apology. The owner was in a hurry to close and meet another boat and in her haste, gave us the wrong time. Oh well, I guess I’ll not be experiencing any flying fish!

Just got back from a flying fish tour on their fabulous new boat, Catallac. What a great boat! Saw lots of flying fish and we were able to stop and watch sea lions feeding on them. Because you are higher above the water than on other tour boats, you can really see into the water and watch the action! Smooth, quiet, comfortable ride – can’t wait to take the Grandkids!

This place was super cute but on the really expensive side. $ 50+ dollars for a fish pillow. It was damn cute but it is hard to justify $ 50 for a stuffed fish!
