Thrifty Rent A Car

I rented a car from this location, the service counter people were nice, however they do not tell you about the fees for driving there rental on toll roads i do not mind paying my toll but they add another 45.00 to the bill, my bill for the rental was suppose to be 555 but when i turned it in it came to 581 which I thought ok that must be the charge for the toll and then weeks later i get this charge for70.00 for toll chargers .on top of thatThe manger on duty called me a week into my rental and told me that because I extended my rental that they tried to charge me another deposit amount and it did not go through and that must return the car asap or they would take legal action, I went in and the counter agent took care of me without any threats, this manager needs customer service training. I have been calling them about this and the phone just keeps ringing, I called the managers extention but he does not answer, left 2 messages to call me.

I saw the other reviews. I thought, no, this couldn’t be THAT bad. You know? People are generally ornery after flights…
Well, it gets bad reviews because it is bad.
We arrived later than expected due to flight delays cause by Austin’s airport. (This was something affecting all flights into Austin, not just ours). Due to Thrifty’s 2 hour hold policy, the car was released, even though I had already provided a credit card in my reservation.
He claimed the car was gone and they only had full or mid-​size, but somehow during our conversation, mid-​size sold out (no one else was there, literally). I asked if he could at least honor the price, he said no, and no supervisor was around to help.
The «best» he could do was to give us a discounted rate on a full which was still nearly twice our reservation.
So, what did we do? Well, Austin’s airport car rental facility is great because you can see all of the companies and the huge difference in service.

USE ANYBODY ELSE! When we arrived for our car we were told they were out of midsize cars and they would give us a compact instead and they were the same price. If we wanted a midsize car we would have to wait for one to come in. The counter guy insisted we ad their toll pass which we declined and the guy repeatedly mentioned how long we would sit in traffic now. We waited at least an hour to get the car. Upon return no one was in the lot. We waited about 5 – 6 minutes then had to flag someone to get help. By that time we worried we would be late for our flight. We were charged a late fee! The car was due back at 130 pm and our invoice said 142p. We were quoted $ 98 when rented and charged $ 116! Calls to the company referred us to Thrifty’s own customer care center at the airport and the phone rings and rings. Lousy service !

My boss and I recently rented a car from Thrifty during a business trip in Austin. Our initial quote was nearly $ 150 less than what we have been charged for our recent rental. Upon returning the rental, we were in a hurry to make it to the gate for our flight, so we left everything with the return specialist at the Thrifty return window as she was fairly busy and said this was fine to do. We were told that we would receive an email detailing the final charges, which we never did, and then were charged nearly $ 150 over the original quote we received. We expected a bit of a higher price, as we did buy the insurance, but it should have been no more than $ 40 total.
As it stands, I’ve called the Thrifty store in Austin several times, it rang and rang mostly, but I was finally able to find an extension that allowed me to leave a voice mail. I am currently on the phone with their corporate customer service, who originally told me I had to talk with the store in Austin, and I’ve been on hold again for 20 minutes. So far, this has been a negative experience and though it costs much more in many cases, I believe I’ll go back to using Enterprise or Avis, where I am appreciated as a customer.
I really dislike writing negative reviews, but I’m incredibly disappointed.

I know writing a review for car rental is essentially futile (since most bookings occur thru other websites), but thought I would throw in my experience just because they are so bad.
You know how you book the car and it asks what time you arrive? Well, I kept the box with the default noon pickup because that is when I landed. By the time I got to the rental car window and waited in line, it was 1pm. The lady at the desk told me they had given my car away because I was late. It was only one hour, but she said they give away all cars after 30mins. She recommended I call next time. The fact that the pick up is at an airport and landing passengers don’t really have telephone access doesn’t seem relevant to her.
Anyways, it is clearly a way to screw everybody. My only option was to upgrade to a premium. The two people behind me in line were also told their cars were gone. Only one of them was blessed enough to have to option to upgrade to a premium, the other person had to make a whole new reservation or wait 3 – 4 hours for them to bring another vehicle. Professional extortion at its best business guise. My booked $ 120 rental ended up costing me $ 270. Better call these folks from the airplane if you are going to show up 30mins late!!!

Our flight arrived late on a Thursday night — 12:30pm instead of 10:30pm. We weren’t sure if we’d be able to get our car, but they were still open. Unfortunately, they had one person working, and after we waited in line for over 30 minutes downstairs, we then had to go up to the parking garage where we waited for another 30 minutes to get our car. I think they must have been out of cars, because they offered us an upgrade to a small SUV. Not a bad deal, but the wait sucked. We paid $ 100 for 2 drivers for 3 days through hotwire.

Arrived at the airport Thrifty counter at 8:30am, no one around. After several phone call attempts, an airport employee told me I had to go to the 3^rd level parking. The car I rented was dirty, smelled of smoke, heavily damaged; the attendant informed me that he could put me in a different car for $ 10 more! To make matters worse, when I left the airport and was about 2 miles down the road, I noticed the gasoline amount was less than ¾ of a tank! I immediately called the location to report it but no one would answer the phone; I could not turn around as I was heading to a 9:30am appointment. When I arrived back at the airport at 3:30pm that same day, I informed the attendant that I had only driven 21 miles and had to put almost $ 9.61 worth of gas in the car due to the amount that was in there when I picked it up. He stated, «really»? I informed him that I would be making a call to corporate about my experience and was told, «good luck with that, we’re franchised»! The attendant’s name was Bobby. The mileage «out» on the contract stated 21 000 when in reality it was 21 179 and when I returned it, the odometer read 21 200.
Will never rent from this location again.

Thrifty not so thrifty. The price you get on the internet seems low, but by the end of it they manage to screw you.
