The Trading Post is moving down 71 to the old Backstage Steakhouse but the food is going to be the same so I’ll stay away from talking about the interior of the restaurant. We’ve never had a bad dish from The Trading Post. One cool thing we did once was to order all the appetizers at once and do a tapas thing. The tuna and the firecracker shrimp are great, as are the crab cakes. They have a constant rotation of specials that are usually great as well. Good salmon and filet mignon too. I would give them a 5 star rating but when you boil it down a lot of places can do contemporary American food and since they don’t have a specialty dish that is something I would travel for I just have to say it is a great place to go. I heard they have a kids night on Tuesday where you can leave your kids to play and hang out with other adults. That is a pretty good idea for those with kids. We’ll follow them down 71 but we hope it stays a cozy place to hang out.

This place rocks. Superior food, service and price. The owners Jaime and Jen could not be any nicer if they tried. They truly enjoy what they are doing, pleasing west austin diners with something no one else in the zip code offers. Half price appetizers and discounted wine at happy hour is probably the best deal in Austin, hands down. Very creative and tasty appetizers. Buying wine by the glass is such a nice experience at the Trading Post. Nice large glasses with a full pour. All of the food is excellent. They are in the process of transitioning from the Hiway 71/Bee Caves road location to their new digs, J-5 Steakhouse, recent home of the Back Stage Steakhouse. They are putting a lot of effort into the look and feel of their new location and it will certainly be worth driving a few extra miles. With the expanded outside dining the music should be wonderful as well.

I have only been here for breakfast… they do not do that anymore, but the food is amazing! They do offer Date Night Tuesday Nights, Movie & Dinner for the kids at 6:30 for only $ 5 each child while you relax and enjoy our complete menu and full bar in the next room. Staff is amazingly nice. Just Amazing! :)

I have seen The Trading Post go through many incarnations and I am loving their new menu and vibe! And their HH menu is the best to be found in the area! From 5 – 7PM appetizers are ½ off which puts their amazing perfectly fried Firecracker Shrimp with a sweet Thai Sauce at only 5.00 same for their Beef Skewers and Crab Cakes! During HH wine is 2.00 off by the glass or 8.00 off per bottle which puts a bottle of Becker at only 12.00 or 3.50 per glass! On our most recent visit my new Girl«friend» treated me to an amazing 2005 Cab that was 90.00 after the 8.00 off HH and we shared an amazing Rib Eye Steak and Salmon while listening to some great live music under the huge Live Oaks over looking the Hill Country with my dogs tucked under the table… Unilocal they are Dog Friendly!!!

This has to be one of the best restaurants in the area. They have a great wine bar and serve delicious Italian cuisine from family recipes. The fire cracker shrimp appetizer is the best. Jamie and Jen are perfect hosts and make everyone feel at home. Great atmosphere and the locals are cool. Try the Jaice’s chicken with baked potato. Both of my sons, 18 and 11, loved it. The dish is named for their daughter. Did I mention the place is kid friendly? You will never find a more unique atmosphere. This place successfully mixes the wine aficionado, martini drinker, beer drinker, foodies and families with a warm and welcome ambiance. Highly recommended, you will not be disappointed!

I don’t even know where to begin. We live just a mile down the road and frequented this place when it was Jim Bob’s. A friend recommended it for dinner so we decided to give it a go. We were, pretty much, blown away. Like others, I thought it was going to be the same old. Both my husband and I are low-carbers and there was no shortage to the options. Great food, great wine, great service. The place was packed with people enjoying the music and food in SW Austin’s best kept secret. Can’t wait until next Friday to go again!

The Trading Post is fantastic. My family dined there on a whim. First, we were immediately impressed as we were welcomed like we were family. Our waiter, Drew, went out of his way to make sure that everything was perfect. For example, I informed Drew that my son has a nut allergy and requested that our TTP Salads be served without Pine Nuts. Drew not only made sure that our salads had no nuts, but he also made sure that none of our food was exposed to the pine nuts. Further, the wine selection and menu is excellent. I ordered the Ribeye. It was cooked to a perfect Medium. My wife also greatly enjoyed the TTP chicken. Finally, the wine selection is great, and the staff makes great recommendations. For the quality, the prices are very good. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. It maintains a family friendly atmosphere, while also being quaint and romantic. I also cannot compliment the staff enough. I will be a long time Trading Post customer. My only suggestion to you. .. make sure to dine at the Trading Post sooner rather than later. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend the Trading Post over Zoot.

The outside is deceiving: I was expecting a hole-in-the-wall. Inside is comfortable modern décor, reminescent of the original Mars. The food was hit and miss though: some inventive appetizers although the one I chose didn’t quite come together for me. The dinner salad was quite tasty with pine nuts. The entrees got mixed reviews from our table. As for the service: friendly, but a little«awkward.» I will give it a second try with hopefully better results.

Local Upscale food in Bee Cave. Smaller menu, heavy on fish dishes. Lots of specials. Nice wine list. Good wait staff. Usually does not look open but is. Small inside with a bar and a large deck. Often entertainment. Been twice and enjoyed it. This is a local chef– no chain menu or attitude.

So, my band Dear Henry played here tonight. Free beer and food? Sign me up. Though, with a name like«Trading Post,» I thought I might be getting myself into a Chicken Fried Steak/Miller Lite kind of situation. Especially since this place is out in the sticks. Right? Well, turns out I was wrong. It’s not that far away(just 12 miles from my house in South Austin. And it’s «The Trading Post Wine Bar & Grill.» And just a couple of weeks into business, the place seems to be already earning a great reputation for itself. The outside(where we played) is kind of like The Nutty Brown Café’s outside area, only much smaller. Inside, I found two small-ish rooms(that I could see), with a few parties ranging from four-tops to ten-tops in each. I didn’t get a great look at the menu or wine list(we were there to play), but they seemed to have a lot of interesting seafood and steak offerings. And any place that uses fishbowl wine glasses must take its wine somewhat seriously … The clientèle seems well-to-do and on the graying side of 40, but the ambiance is laid-back and comfortable. The wait staff(busy on a Saturday night) still seemed to find the time to make sure every one was happy. I got some excellent grilled mahi mahi. The side vegetables were lightly steamed, which I love. Too many restaurants(especially rural ones) boil their veggies to within an inch of their life. Not here. Chip was our booker/waiter/facilitator and was generally an all-around awesome guy, helpful and there when we needed him. I look forward to going back, paying a little more attention to the menu, and maybe discovering some new wines.
