Say«good bye» to Suzi’s China Grill location on Bee Cave Rd. Susi Bistro is not the same restaurant. Ignore Jin’s post as he is obviously affiliated with Susi Bistro and his post is more an ad than a review. Susi Bistro is terrible. We had crab Rangoon which was tasteless and over cooked. It was not served with any sauce… We had to request sweet sour sauce. We also had wonton soup which was served luke warm. The pan fried dumplings were the worse I have ever had. The skins were thick and doughy and the contents again were tasteless and unappetizing. Finally we had beef mimosa which was the most disappointing of all. It was so sweet we couldn’t choke it down, but luckily we didn’t have to because it was so tough we couldn’t chew it!

I’ve eaten at the Lamar, Anderson Lane and Bee Caves locations and they’re all good. Great food, reasonable prices and good service. Way to go Suzi!

I’m a fan of this Suzi’s because of the sushi and Chinese combination. That means you can drag in your friend who doesn’t eat sushi and still get your fix. Both menus are excellent and the service is consistently good. Try the avocado bomb, walnut chicken, firecracker prawns, spicy sunny roll or frozen sake.

Although I hear the chinese food here is great, I go to Suzi’s for the sushi. They always have high quality, fresh fish that never disappoints. The rolls here are awesome and I have yet to go wrong with any of them. Even though their sushi and rolls are great, the best part of Suzi’s is their service. Everyone their is so friendly and makes you feel right at home. If you want the best server in Austin ask for Sunny. Great for dates or to satisfy any sushi cravings. Definitely check it out!!!

I just ate here this past weekend and I will probably never return. My family and I used to frequent this place long before P. F Chang’s came to town. We recently received a gift certificate for Suzi’s so we went there for dinner. We were surprised to walk in at 8pm on a Saturday night and find only 4 tables out of 20 occupied. We should have known then to turn around walk out. We encountered several issues throughout the night. First, our waiter failed to take our drink order. After we requested he take our drink order, our glasses sat empty for several minutes before they were refilled. We ordered the lettuce wraps and wontons for appetizers. The chicken filling for the lettuce wraps lacked seasoning. We asked for hot sauce. He took his sweet time bringing it out. We ordered both white rice and brown rice with our meal. We got our white rice, but he said the brown rice would take a little bit longer. 35 minutes later, we still hadn’t received our brown rice. I asked him for it and he said it was still cooking. We never saw a grain of brown rice that night. I found a live bug in my rice. When I told the waiter about it he first argued with me and said it was just a grain of rice. When he finally came around he said, «Oh, i think it’s just a fruit fly. I can get you more rice.» No, thank you. I think I’ll be leaving now. At the end of our meal, I asked to speak with the manager. Our waiter said he was the manager. That’s a bit disappointing. Most people would expect the manager to provide customers with better service. The food was fine. Service terrible. Bug unacceptable. Needless to say, I’ll be sticking with P.F. Chang’s from here on out.

Good food and consistently attentive service. I get here at least every other week for lunch and the food is fresh and done just to my order. The servers have ben around forever and they know what they are about. Great place.

Don’t be cheap. This place is totally legit. It is a bit on the pricier end of the spectrum, but everything is worth it. I could seriously live off the seafood dumplings(shrimp, scallops, and crab), vegetarian dumplings(shredded vegetables), and the spicy tangy dumplings(ground pork dumplings with peanut sauce). For entrees, I could shovel in the double pan fried noodles, chicken with macadamia nuts, chicken with pine nuts, jalapeño chicken, and beef with broccoli all day. Forever and ever, amen.

I have been going to Suzi’s China grill on Bee Caves road for over a year and have found it to be a great experience. I like to sit up at the sushi bar. They have 2 flat screen TVs and can be a perfect place to go by yourself or with others to unwind. It is surprising — but they have the coldest beer in Austin from my perspective. They bring out an ice cold glass every time. There’s nothing better than sushi and cold beer. The sushi chefs at this location are truly great. I have brought many a family member or friend here and the chefs will listen to their preferences and make just the right thing. I appreciate their ability to make creations off of their standard menu. Chef Ben, is extremely good. He makes great tasting, beautiful dishes. While I go to Uchi and lots of other sushi bars here in Austin, this is my favorite low keyed, welcoming place to have a great sushi meal. Their staff wants to make you appreciated and is very personable. I feel that I can give them feedback and they adjust to make it a great experience. If you haven’t given it a try, some evening head out the sushi bar. You can also order off of the full Chinese menu — and sit up at the sushi bar — and have a wonderful evening even with a non-sushi eater. Note: I do believe that the location matters — because it’s much about the servers. I have only been on the Bee Caves location and a few times to the one on S. Lamar. This review is specific to the Bee Caves location. Cheers

We chose Suzi’s the other night for nice, casual dining. There’s nothing particularly exciting on the menu, and the wine list leaves a little to be desired. We each had a glass of white. I ordered the sesame shrimp, which was rated as «spicy» according to the menu. The sauce was cloyingly sweet, but not unpalatable. But where oh where was the spice!!! A few red peppers had been thrown in for show. Overall the dish was a bit bland and not exactly worth the $ 11 – 12 price tag. The sushi looked delish! My bf ordered some sort of sampler… it rang in at $ 24ish. Worth it? Also ordered was a grilled chicken salad. Nothing too special. To sum it up, I’m kinda on the fence about Suzi’s. It’s suburban Austin Asian fusion, what can you really expect?

My pal picked this place for her birthday dinner. I was initially pretty nervous because I’m a vegetarian. How do I eat at a sushi place? Well, it worked out super well. I ordered one roll that was described on the menu as having no meat, and someone else recommended I order a vegetable tempura roll. They were delicious and came on adorable, thin, rectangular plates. We were a party of ten or so, and the food came out in shifts, but it wasn’t as well-planned as it could be. We ended up with everyone having their food except one person, who didn’t get any of their food until about 20 minutes after everyone else. I can understand getting our food item by item, but no one should be left out, right? Suzi’s started my new vegetarian sushi exploration! Hooray!

Modern, clean décor with unusual layout. Excellent service at the sushi bar with customized off menu offerings graciously presented. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming every time I visited which was often several times a week. Service was always fast and parking was extensive in the strip center — just watch traffic coming out from the little hill! I have eaten Chinese food here and at the other locations but normally prefer the sushi.

For the first few years I lived in Austin, my only experience with Suzi’s was at the South Lamar location, always under protest. After a while, I learned my lesson, and I steadfastly refused to go. But as the years went by, I heard blips from otherwise reliable sources that perhaps I should try one of her other locations; that her food had improved; that the sushi was good. So I found myself lunching today with friends at the Suzi’s Bee Caves location. Big mistake. I ordered a sushi combo lunch — salad, a bowl of miso, a spicy salmon roll, and four pieces of nigiri for $ 13.95. The salad was mediocre — largely iceberg lettuce with a ginger-based dressing with notes of ginger, ginger, and ginger. The miso soup was almost completely flavorless. Not a good start. My sushi arrives. I had specifically told our waiter that I only wanted raw fish — no cooked pieces, please. So I was a little disappointed when my plate arrived and there was a piece of Krab-with-a-K nigiri staring up at me, in all its unnaturally red glory. Fine, I thought to myself. I’ll get over it. The spicy salmon roll was OK. Edible, anyway, in part because the sushi was hidden under a blanket of decent spicy sauce and tucked away in the middle of the roll. But the nigiri was horrible. Just really bad. I should’ve known from the way it looked, but being the brave lunch warrior that I am, I thought I could stick it out. But no. The little dried up pieces of not-so-fresh looking fish atop the little balls of not-so-fresh looking sushi rice tasted fishy and, well, not so fresh. To be fair, I did not get sick from consuming this fourth-rate sushi. But I don’t think«I didn’t get sick» should be the yardstick by which a person should measure sushi. I didn’t taste the Chinese food, but I did eye my friends’ plates, and based on what I saw, it looked akin to my memories of Suzi’s food — i.e., roughly comparable to food court Chinese food, only more expensive. The menu is uninspired and obviously tailored to American palates. Not an authentic experience at all. I don’t blame Suzi for what she’s doing. She’s built herself a little restaurant empire based on her legendarily dynamic personality and her ability to tailor Asian cuisine to her very non-Asian clientele. She’s clearly a savvy business woman, and she probably deserves props for that. But that doesn’t mean I have to eat at her restaurants, and I certainly don’t plan to do so again.

So I needed some lunch from somewhere other than the Central Market café at my office. I thought about Chuy’s – but they left me on hold for way too long. I opted for Suzi’s. I called in an order of the spicy tangy dumplings and orange chicken. They informed me that the chicken came with a soup – I chose hot and sour. I get back to the office and realize that they gave me the lunch deal, including fried rice(icky) and I didn’t think to ask for white(my bad). The first two or three dumplings were great – tasty, yummy, peanut saucy goodness. The last three are not cooked – just a mass of sticky dough with meat inside. The orange chicken is okay. Nothing to write home about. I’ll think twice before coming back here.

Very good chinese food. Suprisingly good Sushi! It really is good. The service was nice. Didn’t really care for the music. It looks like a fun place to go with a few friends and sit at the bar. I’ve eaten there many times and will continue to go back. The location on Anderson Ln is the best for Sushi and Chinese, but this location is closer to my house. If you’re looking for casual dining and great food… check it out.

Ode to the days when I could eat all the fattening deep fryed with peanut sauce or sweet and sour sauce Chinese food I wanted and never gain an ounce. I hate you aging metabolism. So today, instead of ordering my usual favorites here(Kung Pao Scallop & Shrimp or the Beef with Broccoli) I ordered the Steamed Eggplant dish and was not disappointed at all in my healthy choice. The eggplant is firm and not at all oily like it often is when it is stir fried and the soy based sauce is very spicy. On this particular visit I ordered it to go since I had the pup with me and had to warm it up by the time I got home and was ready to eat and it held up great — no soggy mushiness that I was expecting. Another favorite is the Hot and Sour Seafood Soup and the seafood is not deep fried so it can’t be too bad for me right???

I eat sushi at Uchi and Musashino exclusively so I did have my reservations about Suzi’s for sushi but I am happy to report, actually I’m THRILLED, to have found decent sushi for LUNCH near my work. Working in the Rollingwood/Bee Caves area and driving 15 – 20 minutes to Musashino on a lunch break tends to stretch out your lunch hour into hours… and alas Uchi isn’t open for lunch. poo. I’ve only eaten lunch at this Suzi’s Bee Caves a few times and before last week, I always stuck with the standard chinese lunch specials which are solid Chinese American fare. However, my coworker and I were craving sushi last Friday and I recalled that there was a sushi bar here and yes we decided to brave it. WEWEREDELIGHTED. We sat at the sushi bar and we were really glad we did b/c the limited sushi offerings on the lunch special menu were not impressive. At the bar we got the full sushi menu, the full attention of the sushi chefs, and interesting conversation. We also learned that the head sushi chef Tom Chan(sp??) worked with Smoky and Tyson Cole back in the day at Musashino. Therefore it wasn’t surprising that the sushi was fresh and there were several inventive rolls that I had not seen before. I highly recommend the lemon roll which had salmon and lemon zest and the spicy hotate/scallop roll(this is usually served as a nigiri piece at other sushi bars so it was amazing to get so many scallops in a roll). DELISH! We also ordered several nigiri pieces and they were all fresh and tasty. I will definitely go back for the lunchtime sushi and I urge others to get over the hurdle of eating sushi at a Chinese restaurant… at least for lunch when the reigning sushi spots are so far far away or not open. Cheers!

Here’s the whole deal on Suzi’s Bee Caves: it’s not the same experience as Suzi’s Anderson Lane. I’ve eaten there at least a half dozen times. I don’t have a choice if I don’t want to travel far, restaurants keep closing in the Westlake area. The food is pretty good. The problem is the service and the strange layout of the restaurant. It’s always bizarre. Yesterday we had a waiter that didn’t seem to understand anything that we were asking him and didn’t know how to service a table ATALL. We got most of what we wanted, but we were so frustrated by trying to get his attention that we finally gave up. They had the football game playing on the TV above the bar. All well and good, but the way that the restaurant is set up made the TV very distracting. This is a ‘safe eat’ if you want decent Chinese food. Just don’t go expecting great ambiance or service.(Maybe because I’m a large man he didn’t think that I needed the food? Your experience may vary…)

I think I’ve only ever eaten at the bar at this location. I love eating at the sushi bar for several reasons. I’ve never had a wait to sit at the bar. It’s close to home. It’s not so fancy shi-shi that I feel like I have to get dressed up. Tonight when my roommate and I went, before we were totally situated, our salads were placed in front of us. I enjoy talking to the sushi-makers and Thom(I think that was his name??) is always there. My friend and I ate and ate. It was all delicious. We weren’t sure what our final roll should be, so we asked them to make us one, based on what we liked(he basically said to tell him what we didn’t like and he’d make something). It was delicious. I don’t even know what it was – sorry I can’t recommend it! But if I did know the name, I would! The wait staff was attentive to us, but not overly-so, especially on a very quiet night. Close to home: Good. Sitting at bar: Good. Having personal attention like they’re our own personal chefs?:Great! If you go for sushi, sit at the bar!
