Does anyone else notice that there are now NO mosquitoes! I can actually do outdoor stuff without elaborate bug spray preparations. I have a new attitude. Forgot the bug spray? Ran out? Who cares?!?

Seriously, 30 days of 100+ heat? Please. The heat I can take, the lack of rain… not so much. Granted, if it rained it would feel like Houston. But the plants and my pores would be happy. If this drought doesn’t end soon, I’ll be forced to host a UYE in my backyard so that people can gather and collectively sweat on my dying grass.

In The Texan Summer Heat (Italian Sonnet) (Dedicated to the blistering summers we have to endure.) Across the threshold and through the exit door Escaping the ice box, greeting the steambath Drenching ourselves in Nature’s fevered wrath Sunlight pulsating with fervid valor Like melting chocolate, sweat drips from our core Dissolving our senses like the aftermath Of plunging headfirst into a sauna’s path, Liquefying puddles on the floor The air is rife with the climate of defeat Boiling our flesh until we surrender We’re baking like pies in the oven heat Turning the crust crispy and so tender The pulse of each sun ray steadily beats Coffee-tinged skin the summer will engender.

I should accept the heat here in Texas. I knew it gets like this every summer. I wasn’t shocked at it. If I wanted my summer a lot cooler I could have moved somewhere else. I figure this is part of life here in Texas. Drink plenty of water. Stay in the shade. Stay indoors if you can. If you workout in the outdoors like I do, then drink some Gatorade. So this is summer, whether you like it or not.
