Skull and Cakebones helped me create the perfect birthday celebration for my boyfriend! He doesn’t like sweets but he loved what they made — ginger/lemon Jester King cupcakes that were not overly sweet! The owners corresponded with me promptly and professionally. They even added them to their regularly scheduled delivery to a nearby store so I could pick them up near work. It couldn’t have gone any better! Thanks.

Oh, Skull & Cakebones — you were SUCH a disappointment. My boss brought in a package of the Gluten-Free Bing Bongs that she bought from Wheatsville. I was so jazzed to try them, because I have Celiac’s Disease — and have always looked at them while shopping. That night, I was wracked with ‘gluten’ symptoms. It was terrible; I knew that it had to come from the Bing Bong, because everything else that I had eaten in several days was homemade — and I have an incredibly gluten-free kitchen. No wheat comes into my home. :) Here’s the worst part: I emailed them and asked them about their gluten practices(because they aren’t gluten certified); I even explained that I had gotten sick, etc. They never emailed me back! Not one person from the company reached out. It was so disappointing. I also contacted Wheatsville — who said that they would have the bakery get in touch with me — and surprise, surprise, I never heard a word from Skull & Cakebones. When you make a product claiming to be safe for people with a serious disease — at the very least, you need to get in touch when someone gets sick! In the future, I’ll stick to the Mostess from Better Bites Bakery. Their stuff is vegan, certified gluten-free, and, frankly, much ‘better’. Ha! Skull & Cakebones, mistakes happen, but not getting in touch with a customer after a mistake — is bad business.

This place is the best! I needed to have cupcakes sent to my daughter for her birthday and they were wonderful to work with! Very professional, got them to her with short notice and called to let me know they had arrived. You cannot ask for more but to put the cherry on top… my daughter LOVED them as she is a huge fan of this bakery. Thank you Skull and Cakebones! Austin is lucky to have you.

BEST. CUPCAKES. EVER. Notice how I didn’t say best vegan cupcakes ever. I’m not vegan, not even close. I like butter and milk and eggs in my baked goods. I actually had no idea these were even vegan at first. You really don’t even miss the animal products. I have no idea how they get their cupcakes to taste so rich and be so moist, but they are delicious! You can buy their cupcakes at Whole Foods, though I wish they sold the cupcakes individually instead of four packs.

Seriously. Wow. I have been trying to get on the vegan/raw bandwagon and I am so close. but one thing that has held me back is my sweet tooth. Fruit is great but sometimes you just need cake, amiright? Many of the vegan sweet I have tried have not cut the mustard. Either too sweet or too dense or too bitter. That does not describe Skull and Cakebones! They are moist, sweet but not too sweet, light and fluffy. Not the normal experience for me. I got a 2 flavor pack from Wholefoods and now I am hooked. I love everything this company stands for. AND they do it affordably. Which is seriously impressive. Thank You Cakebones. I can’t wait to share you with all my friends.

They did an awesome job catering the cupcakes for my wedding. Everyone was happy… even the meat-eaters and the gluten-free people. The display couldn’t have been more gorgeous and they even helped put on custom cake toppers. These ladies do a great job and they just couldn’t be nicer people.

It is one of my greatest regrets that Unilocal has only awarded me 5 stars as an option for this establishment. I thought I knew my vegan treats. I thought I had a strong hold on all the best vegan spots in Austin. Then I discovered Skull and Cakebones at WF and tried the Bing Bongs. My palette exploded as I bite into each layer of delicious sugary goodness– soft, pillowy chocolate cake followed by vanilla filling and topped with a intense ganache icing. Let’s be real– the package came with 4 and I killed all 4 in one night. I’m sure all you vegans out there can relate to the huge variance in the quality of Vegan desserts in the Austin market. Quite often with a new product you just don’t know what to expect. With that said this place is going to destroy your expectations as their cupcakes take you to another world of cakey deliciousness. What are you waiting for? Get some of this stuff now!

Shhh they are vegan! I attended 3 events in the past two weeks where Skull & Cakebones brought their unique cupcakes. Their mini cupcakes are hands down the best cupcakes I have tasted. The texture and lightness of the frosting and cake are pure bliss. They partner with other companies and use an ingredient from them to make kick ass themed cupcake flavors. Ginger Brew, Mutha Fudga and Pecan Jack are among my favorites. The Pecan Jack will take care of all your pumpkin cravings! Pecan Jack is a pumpkin cupcake topped with cinnamon buttercream and accented with toasted almonds. One of the big hits is the«bing bong» which looks like a Hostess cupcake. I attended a conference this weekend and got to hear the ladies behind the cupcakes share their story. They are passionate about what they do and how they do it. Non GMO, vegan and locally sourced ingredients. what is not to love?

The highlight of any trip to Jester King for me isn’t the beer — it’s these crazy good cupcakes! They’re vegan — I’m not, anymore — and baked with locally-sourced ingredients… Total feel-good bonus, that. The icing on the(cup) cake, if you will.(And speaking of icing — I’m super picky about that stuff. The standard grocery store cake topping is gross, even on the fanciest looking treats in the case — tastes like straight Crisco, ick. Absolutely not the case at all with S&C — it’s delicious!) Favorites thus far are the Basilberry(basil cake topped with strawberry cream), the Cuvee-loaded coffee one, and the cake baked with Buddha’s Brew pineapple supergreens kombucha. .collaboration, yo! Can’t wait to try alllll the cake!

WOW. LOVEIT! i love the chocolate with the swirly on top. reminds me of the best Little Debbie from my child hood. but now I know its not full of crap and beef fat. Why the hell do they(little debbie) put beef fat in their cream? So weird. I have about 8 cupcakes in my fridge at home as we speak. yes, they do help with my inner fat child haha. Every single flavor that I have tried has tasted good. I was apprehensive at first about the Buddha Brews pineapple supergreens cupcake, but then I tried it and loved it. I even had to smack my child’s hand away lol They are expensive, but for gluten free and vegan, what do you expect?! Over all the cupcakes, the bakery and the packaging are so cool. Thanx for being around!

Without a doubt, the best cupcakes I have ever had. Not to mention the lemon cake whose name I can never remember. There is never a bad time for a Skull & Cakebones cupcake.

Every single cupcake I have had is AMAZING! The Bing Bong might be my favorite because I LOVE chocolate but the carrot cake one, the beet one, the coffee one… what else? Dirty Chai, the one with Jester King beer and the one with kombucha… They’re all incredible. Flavorful, moist, perfect.

Wow! I ordered 4 dozen cupcakes last Thursday night for the next day. I was asking for a super rush job and it was just before Vegfest! Skull and Cake Bones said yes! Their customer service was top notch, we emailed back and forth 15 times in that day with various questions, delivery info and best time to come etc. The cupcakes were delivered on time and by who I believe was the baker/owner. She was so super nice and sweet. The cupcakes were beautiful and the next day at our bday party they were devoured and everyone loved them. We got the Sweet Carrotline’s. The price was also amazing. Affordable and delicious with amazing customer service! Order your cupcakes from this place, seriously. :)

I just discovered Skull and Cakebones. I think I just died and went to heaven. I could eat the JUSTBEETIT cupcake everyday. Probably not a good idea that I’m walking distance to Royal Blue Grocery. I’m definitely a forever patron now. If you have not had this cupcake, you need to try it. And best of all, it’s VEGAN!!! Shhhhhh, don’t tell!

These cupcakes, ROCK. Nuff said. Yay vegan businesses! Sure, you have to go to Whole Foods to get ‘em, but you will NOT be disappointed. The flavors are delicious, creative and also standard for non-converts. I want more!
