I’ve had Roadrunner for over 13 years, but I wouldn’t call myself a loyal customer. The last few times that I’ve lost service or have had my speed reduced to a crawl they have told me that it will take several days to schedule a technician’s visit. Most recently they instructed me to buy a new modem at my expense, when it turned out to be a problem on their end.(I read somewhere that the new modems that they require as replacements allow them to throttle down your speed.) In the past two years my monthly bill for the same exact service has risen from $ 44.99 to $ 64.33 — a 43% increase in price over two years. [Edit as of April 2014: six months later, Time Warner increased my bill *again* by another 5%. It’s now $ 67.69. They claim they are increasing the speed — even though I didn’t ask for it — but they told me, apparently falsely, that that wouldn’t raise my rates. If I switch to their next lower tier plan, by my calculation I would have *slower* speeds than I had two years ago, at a *higher* price, even adjusted for inflation, than I paid then. Whichever way you look at it, the service they are delivering is, I believe, going downhill.]
