OMG. Best texmex in Austin, I kid you not. Salsa is hot with serranos and high with flavor. Spinach enchiladas sound dull but are anything but. Fresh spinach and onions inside, suizza(sour cream) sauce and cheese outside. Get a side of Verde tomatillo sauce to top it. It’s a deep moment when you take that first bite. Black beans, check. Rice well seasoned and cooked perfectly, check. Pastor tacos were filled with tender, moist meat. Charro beans possessed a bacon soul. Our service was a tad slow because there was only one hard working server with some help from the bartender, but everything was served hot and fresh. Interior needs help(Food Network, where are you?). Holy guacamole, you need to eat here. Full bar.

My ratting for ll tex-mex restaurants is chicken enchiladas with chipotle sauce. Las Lomas has the best I have ever had. The sauce has a great balance of spice and flavor. Their salsa is also quite good. The staff is always friendly and the food always come quickly. Any time I am south this is where I go.

So yeah it has been a while since your Uncle Lancey Pants enlightened you all with a healthy serving of reality and truth… so let’s get to it. Man sure a lot of haters on this place. No idea why so many of you think this place is dirty. It was perfectly clean and fine when I was there. They even have a fresh carnation at each table. You haters are either super pretentious or have poor eyesight or mayhap both. In any case, you all are wrong so stop the hate with your lies alright. I decided to check this place out because they took the red sauce win in the restaurant category this year. I was very hesitant at first when I took a peek at the reviews. But then I remembered that i have an inverse relationship with Unilocal. When you all hate a place, there is a 90% probability that it is actually a good place lmao. So I went for it. It is located in your typical unassuming and uninspired american corner strip mall. But it is a cute little gem tucked away in there. I’m sorry it took me this long to find it. The salsa is very good, one of the best I’ve had. I ordered the fajitas rancheras with charro beans. Fajitas were great and the charro beans are my second favorite I’ve found in Austin. And they make their own fresh corn tortillas. I mean seriously. You all are the crazy weird like Austin for hatin on this place like you do. Finally, there is absolutely *nothin* shady about this place. It is a quaint neighborhood establishment where the locals hang out. Both Latinos and gringos were chillin it up at the bar and patio. If you find this«shady» you should surely confine yourself to the monochromatic suburban gated community of your choice, and stay there please. Please, I implore you. Tl;dr clean welcoming local establishment serving some great tex-mex. Now Uncle Lancey Pants says go get you some =)

Filthy restaurant, rude wait staff, obnoxiously loud and awful music. Food was mediocre and they brought out the wrong meals. Extremely disappointing.

Tex Mex here is great. Plus the alcohol prices are nice! Free chips & salsa but not until 11am. Ask for the green salsa! It doesn’t come automatically so you gotta be in the know! Service is slow in the morning because there’s only 1 – 2 waitresses but they get the job done! Stop in at Sweetwater Bar after getting your food fix for some great craft beer choices.

I love coming here for the food, drinks and service by two amazing waitresses. It’s close to my house and a favorite of mine, but it’s evident that the staff here are treated poorly for their hard work and dedication. Poor management by the owner.

An unassuming little restaurant tucked into an assuming little corner of an even more unassuming little strip mall, the food here is fantastic. We had the bacon wrapped jalapeño shrimp, nachos, and shrimp chile relleno. All were great, and the price reasonable.

Something about this place seems really shady to me. And no it’s not the weird lighting, the creepy bathrooms, the dirty feel of it all. Don’t get me wrong, I like me some dirty taquerias, but this place just didn’t do it for me. Food was ok for tex-mex standards. My charro beans tasted and looked like they were previously frozen. Seriously disappointing. One of the waitresses referred to my husband as a ‘bolillo’. Um, no. Only I can call him that. Plus he prefers ‘gringo’. Overall the only reason why we ate here was because Sweetwater was closed. Go to Mariana’s instead.

Get the Carne Guisada! It is awesome. The prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere is always relaxed. I have never ordered something there that was not great. It is also good to just have a few beers, and enjoy some chips and queso. I am a loyal customer, and I am sure I will be for a long time.

I had dinner here last night with some friends. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was enjoyable on the outside patio. Both the queso flameado and compuesto tasty. I had the El Jefe plate. I was too full to make it to the beef enchilada, but the refried beans wee delicious. The cheese enchilada was exactly what a Tex-Mex enchilada should be. The chalupa was nice and crispy as was the taco shell. I couldn’t tell if the tortillas were made in house(I only had one), but it was good enough to not ponder at the time. The lemonade was refreshing and I had a refill at no extra charge. The service was a little slow, but my waitress was friendly. I will be going back.

Good food, just like moms cooking! Margaritas are good too, nice to know there’s a place like this close to home

Meh. The food is good, and the prices are great… all true but there is something that about this place that doesn’t sit quite right with me. Is it the service, the lack of clientele(we’ve been at weekend breakfast and lunch and both times we were close to the only table)…I’m not sure. Whatever it is I’m not bothered enough by this feeling that I wouldn’t go back again if friends wanted to go, but it probably won’t be my first choice the next time I’m craving tacos al pastor.

This place is great, and the price is very affordable! A small restaurant in a strip mall shopping center on W. Stassney, they have a nice patio to enjoy the weather when it’s cool in Austin as well. The waitstaff in my experience has always been very friendly. The margaritas are delicious(and potent). Their Beef Fajitas and Rib-Eye Steak are two of my favorite entrees, while the Shrimp Diablos(shrimp wrapped in bacon and jalepenos) and Shrimp Cocktail are two of my favorite appetizers. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area!

Great little hidden spot. Three cheese tex mex enchiladas are amazing. Cheese and sauce are just right. Again not interior Mexican style but tex mex! Queso Compuesto with ground beef, guacamole and pico is tasty with enough chips sent home with you to much on. Rice and refried beans are very tasty. Caramones ala Mexicana is SOGOOD! Tasty shrimp and not shy with the toppings. Will go again.

Stumbled upon this place while running errands with my mom in South Austin. Let me just say, my mother is VERY critical when it comes to food, and she’s a creature of habit, only going to a handful of restaurants she knows well. Since I saw the stellar reviews of this place on Unilocal,I thought it was worth a shot for lunch. Drumroll… Mom liked it! I liked it too. We both ordered the enchiladas and were happy campers, and our total bill was under 15 bucks. So, in short, this place has very good food and reasonable prices, especially with their lunch specials! What more is there to say? :)

Ever since I moved to Austin six years ago, I’ve been looking for a good Mexican restaurant at a fair price. I searched and searched and came back with everything from mediocre to overpriced bland mush to so absolutely terrible I can’t fathom why this place is still open(I’m looking at you, Taqueria La Tapatia). Sure, I found a couple of places that were tolerable, good enough, ‘meh’, but I never really found a place I’d consider my go-to Mexican craving place, until just this week. And I’ll be damned if it isn’t less than a mile from my house, has awesome drink specials, and a separate section of vegetarian food. What else can I say? This place is awesome. It doesn’t really look like much atmosphere wise, but I can’t taste fancy walls and eat tablecloths; what I’m concerned about is food. We happened to go for our initial visit on a Monday, when all day they have $ 5 Mexican martinis, which were both tasty and near-endless. I now know that it only takes one of these to leave my lady companion in a state approaching hilariously drunk. They have other drink specials every day of the week, and daily happy hour from 3 — 7. Good stuff.(There’s also fresh-squeezed OJ and grapefruit juice during brunch, along with classic brunch drink specials. I’ve got a new place to go for mimosas and Bloody Maries on hangover mornings!) Our friendly and attentive server brought us chips and salsa and commented on the awards they have won for each type of salsa in last year’s Austin Hot Sauce festival. I personally liked the red salsa better, but the green was also fantastic. Excellent salsa is usually a pretty good determiner of the overall quality of food, and it certainly was in this case. We each got different variations of the item that led us to this newfound Mexcian Mecca — chili rellenos. I got the veggie relleno, stuffed with mushrooms, squash, onions, and other tasty veggies, the misses got cheese. Both were served with vegetarian black beans(hooray!) and rice. Of course, they were delicious. I have never found a decent relleno in Austin. Now I’ve found two. The portions were huge, but someone we both cleared our plates triumphantly. I have a feeling every other menu option is equally awesome, and I plan to expand my menu selections in the future. I’m still kicking myself for living near this place for years without venturing inside, but now I know and like a born-again evangelical I’m spreading the word near and far. Give Los Lomas your money, I want this place to stick around!

Sorry, folks… I just don’t get it. The food here was just… eh. I had chicken enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. The chicken has been freshly pulled off the bone; I know this not only because of the way the pieces were formed, but also because there was a piece of bone inside a mouthful of enchilada. Not cool. Way not cool. Service was OK, not horrible, not great. The ambience was strange. There’s the party patio out in front of the restaurant, the dark xantina when you walk in, and I was placed in a fluorescent dining room off to the side. It was me and a speaker that alternated between Bön Jovi and Selena(seriously). The chips were even rather boring. This place isn’t bad — it’s just that Austin has much better for the same prices.

This place deserves a gigantic flashing«eat here, fall in love» upon it’s roof top. Not saying you will find the love of your life, but I bet your ass you fall in love with the food and the story. — Husband and wife owned, family operated. Their specials of $ 3.75 margaritas at happy hour were the initial draw, I mean duh. But after chatting with my server Joe(who’s a total delight), and chomping on some of the best chips and salsa I’ve had in my life. I’m hooked. I want to come back and order one of everything, bring a blanket and sleep between dishes. Because the place is so cool and laid back, hello, they have a ping pong table on the patio, I’m sure they’d let me siesta between my meals. Please Austin, leave the tiny parking lots, long waits, and subpar tex mex for another day. Visit Las Lomas and support another local business… The prices are ridiculously cheap for the mounds of food and the drinks are knock your socks off strong. If you come in and see me curled up in my blanket, please don’t disturb my heavenly bliss.

Mark M. and I were looking for a breakfast spot to ease the pains of hunger one morning and decided to give Las Lomas a try after a friend raved about how awesome they were. I had the migas, Mark M had the Menudo. I am used to either tortillas or chips coming with my migas and didn’t get either, but that’s something I can live with. However, I was totally unimpressed. The migas were smothered with Velveeta(really?! Velveeta?!) and it tasted like someone had accidentally(I hope) sprinkled the migas with Cinnamon sugar it just wasn’t pleasant at all. Mark M said the Menudo tasted like Tabasco flavored water; it was overly spiced and had no real flavor other than the Tabasco flavor. We’ll try it once more, but for dinner or lunch; breakfast was a fail. We did notice the Happy Hour prices and will be back to get 512 Pale Ale at $ 2.50 a pint!
