Rick is an artist! I have struggled with my straight hair for 56 years. He said «keep it longer man, I will make it look good» Well he overachieved! Cya you tomorrow my man!

I wanted someone, and something, new for my hair needs. I hit a milestone birthday and walked into the salon for the first time to make an appointment with no recommendations in hand. I was introduced to Rick King and he was, well I don’t know exactly how to put how he was, other than kind, welcoming, interesting, and easy to talk with. He had this natural way of letting me know everything is going to be alright. He made my appointment with him at 2:30 the next day and 2:30 it was. I didn’t have to wait at all. I showed him a couple of pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like which was far from what it was at the time. Rick took over and while cutting my hair we had conversations about the history of Austin and things that only people who’ve been here as long as he and I have would know, politics, indie movies, raising kids, and more, all the while he is creatively cutting my hair. Layer by layer he made sure that everything lay perfectly. It really felt like an artist who looks at a canvass with paintbrush in hand. He would look at me from all directions and check the look, the layer, the flow, wave, before drying, and again after drying. Near the end of my cut, his perfection was more obvious to me. It was now more about the front. The sides and back were done and I could watch him working, stepping back and looking straight on at me. Clip, clip, snip, snip. I wear glasses and had taken them off, so I was not able to see how things were coming along. I had this crazy trust in him. I’m normally a basket case when I go to someone new. When my haircut was complete, I turned to the mirror, put my glasses on and wow! So awesome. Just what I was looking for. Rick created my desired look from the rats nest I had given him. He is by far the best I’ve been to. He takes his time because hair takes time. He enjoys what he does and he appreciates me wanting a good haircut. I don’t think it’s just a haircut in his eyes. It is him making sure that it’s perfect for you. Angle, lines, points. It’s all on him and he owns it. I won’t be going anywhere else! Thanks Rick!

Rick Rocks… He’s just awesome and in a non-​cliché way (an artist). He spent well over the normal time getting into detail with trimming my beard. Literally the best sculpting my beard has ever had. I was asking him questions to try to mimic his work again. His hair cut was awesome and the his hospitality was very relaxing. On an unimportant note; he knows information on so many random things. Any topic that I brought up, he was educated in it. Very fun to talk to!

The first thing you should know about Rick, is that he is slow. But why a 5 star review? Because he is slowly crafting a masterpiece when he does your hair.
Whether it’s painstakingly applying highlights and low-​lights (no «piano key» color here!), relaxing and conditioning, or making your layers fall just right — he’s going to take his time and you will look fabulous.
Rick has been taking care of me and my hair for the last 4 or 5 years. I’ve had short hair, long hair, relaxed hair, natural hair, simple highlights, complex dual-​process highlights… not to mention work stress to top it all off. Rick handles it all, while managing to keep my hair healthy and beautiful without making it too much for me to maintain.
So, relax. Expect to be here for a while. Have a glass of wine and talk to Rick about politics, music, food, books, or whatever your fancy (good luck trying to find something remotely popular that he doesn’t know about).
Trust that you’ll look and feel better when he’s done.

Rick has cut and colored my hair for years. I have never been disappointed with a cut or color. Rick is a student of life, and as such he has a great feel for hair. I always love spending time with Rick, and the salon is very nice too.

I stumbled upon Rick about a year ago totally by chance. I was in the Domain in Austin and in the need of a haircut. Randomly, I stopped in his salon and had my first «Rick King cut». Without a doubt, my hair will never be cut by another. This guy is incredible; both as a stylist and a human being. His cuts are consistently spot-​on and he keeps his appointments, doesn’t make you wait, etc. (which is HUGE these days)! On a personal level, some of the most insightful, meaningful conversations I’ve had in 36 years of life have been with Rick. His perspective and knowledge about the most random of subjects, current events, etc. is incredible. I feel like I always walk away both looking better and feeling smarter :) I have searched far and wide in Austin for a stylist and my search has ended. I can’t say enough good things about this guy. Give him a shot, and I guarantee you’ll come back again… and again… and again.

Simply Amazing and worth it!!! After months of hearing a girlfriend of mine rave over Rick King I decided to try him out for myself. I’m pretty particular about my hair (who isn’t) but I called him beforehand to make an appointment and briefly expressed what I was looking to do. I wanted to go from a basic bob to a soft sophisticated short crop look and knew that it would have to be a very precise cut as I’m a wrap-​at-​night-​get-​up-​and-​go kinda girl in the mornings. I need it to look good without me doing anything to it. We agreed on a date/​time where he was able to give me his full attention. Step by step he explained to me his actions and why he thought it would be the best fit for my personality, face, hairstyle, etc. I think he pulled out every piece of equipment he had to give me exactly what I wanted. HeHe! =) He also gave me great advice on possible other styles that could work for me. He’s great company and very knowledgeable in the hair fashion industry and life in general, not to mention I laughed the entire time! After my first visit it almost seems as though I’ve known him forever. I was in great hands. I surely recommend giving Rick a call. You won’t be disappointed– he won’t let you!

I love Rick!!! He is a genius when it comes to hairstyling! He is such a joy to be around and to have an in depth conversation with. I now live in California, but every time I’m in Austin, stopping by to see Rick is an absolute must!

Rick gives me hands down the best cuts/​styles I’ve ever had. They look great coming out of the salon & he cuts in a way that makes it easy for someone like me (I don’t spend much time styling my hair) to handle. And, as a bonus, he’s a really smart, interesting guy. That makes for great conversations while in his chair.
