Maybe my expectations were too high from all the rave reviews but I honestly didn’t like it at all. Had the Lucky Puccia and the flavors did not meld together at all. The arugula was very bitter, the prosciutto had a stronger than usual sweaty feet funk, the chipotle aioli was kind of sour like it was spoiled. On top of that, the sandwich was pretty tiny for the price. The homemade bread was maybe ¼″ thick, nothing like any of the pictures. It was basically like a toasted pita. Maybe I went on a very off day but I have no interest in going back.

With a name like that, I’d have thought mafia. The only way Lucky’s Puccias can be mob related is because the sandwiches are murder on your diet. If you head over here you may as well surrender to any fad diet. Low carb? No, grazie. Low fat. No, grazie. Paleo. Hell no, whatchya talkin’ about? If cavemen had the choice they’d come here instead of having to hunt down their own meat and cook it. It’s easy to make a sandwich, and when I choose to eat out, it’s rarely for something as easy as a sandwich which can be made at home. There are few places that make something so out of this world, I’d go out of my way to visit. I’ve only been here twice and I’m completely breaking protocol by reviewing a place I should absolutely frequent more often before putting in my final say, but hey, good stuff is good stuff and if you are in the area, please give this place a try. You’ll be talking about it for eons. And completely breaking omertà law.

As Deniz V previous said, it’s like the spawn of a calzone & a pizza. Really love the bread — errr, their pizza dough bread, because it’s nice & crusty but doesn’t tear up your mouth! I’ve tried both their pizza(tasty) and sandwiches, and I prefer the sandwiches — really delicious. A little on the expensive side BUT for most people, this is probably two meals(even me, and I’m an eater.) You’ll be likely be full off half and be busting off a whole one, so that helps offset the price a bit. Will keep going back to try other flavor combos, but so far thumbs up to the classica and the vegetarian(with turkey!) Eat this puccia.

His ability to blend traditional and modern is a masterpiece! I was there with a large group on a local food tour. Everyone in my group rated this as their favorite. Food trailer on Fifth Street near Whole Foods. The puccias are somewhere between a calzone and sandwich. I had the turkey which was tasty. The bread is great – it is done in a wood-fire oven. The vegetables were fresh and great. Service was fast and friendly. Good stuff!

There’s a first time for everything. Meet the wood fired Italian sandwich known as the Puccia(POO-CHAH). Puccia is brought to you by Lucky the Breadmaster who learned to perfect an ancient recipe from the city of Taranto in Southern Italy. In 2007, he started at a food trailer in Downtown Austin and established a second brick and mortar location just a mile away. I tried the Hot Pastrami topped with four Italian Cheeses, Peppers, Mushrooms, Red Onion and Chipotle Aioli. The texture of the bread was absolutely amazing, and the ingredients are as fresh as they get! Love at first bite, a taste of Italy right in my backyard…

We decided to stop here for lunch because we were looking for an Italian-esque sandwich shop and this place was great! The guy who took our order at the cash register(who might have been the manager) was extremely nice. We both ordered puccias which I guess is like a sandwich on a round loaf. They were great! The bread was freshly baked in a stone oven(?) and both puccias had really great flavor. I really enjoyed my Rustica and I’d love to come back to try their pizzas.

Ok, I rarely give a 5 star, but I went on the Austin Eats Food tour this past weekend, and we were lucky enough to go to Lucky’s. I tried the Lucky special which is a delightful sandwich with the best homemade bread right out of the oven with arugula, mozz, tomato, proscuitto, and a delectable chipotle drizzle. OUTOFTHISWORLD. I came back for a second visit to give these guys a second chance and am I ever glad I did. This time I ordered the Hot Pastrami«poo-chah» and it did not disappoint one bit. The oven-baked bread was fresh and hot; the pastrami was thinly cut, tender, and flavorful; the melted cheese, which tasted a lot like delicious parmesan cheese, was amazing; and best of all, the grilled peppers and mushrooms were outta this world. All in all, it’s definitely one of the best(and most unique) pastrami sandwiches I’ve ever had, perhaps even a notch higher than Easy Tiger’s or Melvin’s, which is saying something. I could not help but eat every bite of this puccia, which just about tells all that needs to be said about it.

I’ve never heard of a puccia before but it’s kind of like a mix between a sandwich and calzone. I got the Lucky’s and it was great. It’s a huge sandwich so make sure to bring your appetite. Friendly service and good food from a very small location.

A group came to Austin for a couple of days taking in sites. Today a majority of the group went off to LBJ library while I had the kids(4) so we needed to find something to do. Sooo we decided to do a food truck tour! This being our first stop and OMG — Amazing! I got the ‘Luck Puccia’ — if I lived here this would be a regular spot. Mmm. Came here for lunch with a coworker the other day and definitely made the right decision. Lucky’s serves wood-fired Italian-style sandwiches, or puccias(that’s pronounced pooh-chah) which are super delicious. I got the Lucky’s Puccia which had prosciutto, mozzarella, basil oil, chipotle aioli, tomato, and arugula. SOGOOD. Firstly, the bread is so on point. I think they start baking it right when you order, and god it’s the softest, most delicious thing ever. I could probably just eat their bread blame. The prosciutto was really on point – usually prosciutto is impossible for me to rip, so when it ends up in a sandwich, I end up eating it all in one go because my teeth can’t rip it apart. This prosciutto, however, was most definitely rippable. The chipotle aioli gave the sandwich a nice slightly spicy touch that kept the thing interesting. It was $ 9.75 for a sandwich and I definitely felt insanely bloated when I was done, so for sure very filing. They also sell mini versions of their sandwiches for $ 5 – I probably could have gone for that and felt just as full. tldr; super good sandwiches with housemade bread SOGOOD. puccia for life

My coworkers and I were looking for something different to eat for lunch and heard from another co-worker about this place. We tried three different sandwiches(Mine being the Hot Pastrami). All of us were very happy with the food. The portions were big enough that I could split with someone else and be full. If you like hot sandwiches with lots of flavor than this is the place for you.

I have never liked mushrooms, but last week I ate mushrooms in a Puccia Rustica sandwich from Lucky’s and I LOVED it. This was actually my second time at Lucky’s Puccia — I was delinquent and forgot to review on my previous visit when I got the Lucky’s. Both times the sandwich was delicious, flavorful and filling. It’s one of those foods you smile while eating and when you’ve finally finished(if you can because the sandwiches are big!) you lick your fingers. Handiwipes recommended. It can take a while for your food to be ready depending on how many people are there so leave extra time. But if you do have to wait, it’s worth it.

How is this possible to have THIS come from a truck?! I absolutely loved that bread — just the right amount of saltiness, sweetness — warm, fresh, great texture! Oh, sooooo goood! it really doesn’t matter what’s inside that sandwich — I think that bread can make everything taste good. Oh, and… they have a Nutella sandwich!!! Do you even want to ask me if I will be back? I am just happy we don’t have one in San Fran, otherwise that would be go to for lunch, breakfast, dinner, snack, dessert, aftermeal, foremeal, 3 o’clock meal — you get the idea! :)
