Stopped in here this past weekend for the first time. Our group had a couple of Nak-i-dish a Humble Pie and one of the java brownies. Food was prepared well and piping hot. The Nak-i-dish was tasty, a combo of beef, pork, onions, and spices all fried up in a bit of dough. Well worth the $ 3, but nothing spectacular. The Humble Pie was a bit odd, a combination of greens and sweet potato with a vinegar kick. Individually the components were tasty, I just wasn’t a fan of them all put into 1 package. The brownie was nice and balanced between coffee and chocolate, cake-like texture. Wish it had been a bit more dense and rich. Overall well worth our time and will probably stop in a again to try some of the other items on the menu in the future.

I’ve been going to Kate’s since it opened over near the park. I love that its now on the east side by some of my favorite bar’s. The food here is honestly amazing and it has to be to exist in this area. I love the pies and Kate certainly knows her way around a Gumbo or Jambalaya but my favorite thing of late is when Kate makes bread pudding. I don’t know what god of food deserts inspired her with the skill to make such delicious bread pudding but he did me a huge favor. I cant say enough good things about the sweet explosions of flavor that come from every bite. If you haven’t eaten at Kate’s I recommend you get out and fix that immediately.

Dined here for the first time on Sunday evening and wow! Had the Red Beans and Rice with sausage, it was amazing, and for dessert I enjoyed her take on Bread Pudding with Sailor Jerry’s rum sauce which was better than any I had ever tasted! I have put Kate’s Southern Comfort on my top 10 places in Austin to eat list and will be back soon!

Friendly couple working this truck next to Regal Ravioli. The two trucks seem to look out for one another, which is cool. For $ 3, you can get an excellent piping hot crawfish pie out there, in a flaky crust. Wanted to also try the humble pie, which sounded super tasty even though it was all veg, but they sold out. Clearly others were on to something… instead I went with a meat pie, which was not bad but nothing special either. The one miss here was their«jambo», a combination of the gumbo and jambalaya. This tasted kind of bland, and the next day there was no more gumbo on the menu, so my guess is they were trying to clear out some old stuff. :\ After downing savory pies and your ravioli and drinks from Regal, finish off your visit with the blueberry bread pudding w/bourbon butter from here. Good stuff! Would come back for that dessert and the crawfish pie, yum.

Mardi Gras Day wanted some Cajun delights! Found it at Kate’s trailer on East sixth near Cisco’s. Excellent smoky gumbo with incredible roux. The Jambalaya rocked, both had special smoked sausage. Awesome Red neans and Rice. The fried pies were excellent and we were treated to a yummy slice of New Orleans King Cake! Kate is there and the quality shows! p. s Fried Okra was a great starter.

Very cut, very funky little trailer that puts out some really good food. I co uld not get enough of the crawfish pies. I think I ate 5 while listening to the shows at Giddy Ups. Thanks for showing up and saving me from fried catfish.

I am not someone that normally eats out of trailers, so I was apprehensive about eating there. Friends were going to spend some time at the Red Shed Tavern and since RST doesn’t serve food, Kate’s was a natural choice. It was awesome! The trailer was just getting set up for the evening, so we went into the bar and he came to us to take our order. It took about 15 minutes to get our food, but well worth it. I had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. I thought the coleslaw would come on the side, but it was on the sandwich. The pork was tender and the coleslaw added some sweetness. Hubby had the red beans and rice with sausage. I had a bite and I can see why he was happy with his selection. My friends had the macaroni and cheese with sausage and the Nac-i-tash pie. Everyone at the table mentioned how hot(temperature) their food was, but mine was perfect. We ended the evening with the bread pudding and that was great! I’m not sure I would make the trip just for the food, but if we frequent the tavern again, I won’t hesitate to eat from Kate’s.

Who puts boudin in a pie? Who then adds Blue Cheese to said pie? A GENIUS, that’s who! She calls it the Bleudin Pie. Go get one, now. Seriously, stop what you’re doing and go get one!!! NO, get 2!!! And then try the crawfish pie! Though I have not had the pleasure of meeting Kate personally, her husband, Ray, is a great down home guy who can talk about anything and make some stellar food all at the same time! Great people, perfect food… does it get any better? Oh, and check out the amazing prices… Easily worth double.

We were looking for a quick lunch before mini golf and Kate’s was just what we needed. We tried the humble and crawfish pies which were fried up empanada style. They were a perfect little snack but if you are going for lunch you probably want to get a side of red beans and rice or something more substantial. The menu was varied — good cajun /southern fare and the prices good.

Kate herself is reason enough to go back. What a sweet lady! And her food is delicious! The fried pies are addicting. If I lived nearby, it would be dangerous. We tried the Nak-i-dish and Bleudin pies. The Nak-i-dish was my favorite: ground pork and beef mixed with onions, black pepper, and other spices stuffed inside the standard puff pastry crust. Both were tasty and hot – perfect for a cool Austin«winter» night! My gf loves red beans and rice, so we had to try that. People had raved about it, so I was hoping it would live up to the buzz. It totally did! Big pieces of andouille sausage, red beans, and tender white rice. It was very flavorful… and warming! A huge chunk of jalapeño cornbread came with our bowl of goodness, and it was also yummy. Kate also had creamy garlic soup on the menu, which we had to try. It tasted like cream with a prominent garlic note. It tasted great, but it was a little lukewarm… not our favorite considering everything else in front of us was piping hot! I’ll definitely make it back to Kate’s. I would go way out of my way to be able to try more of her menu! :)

Kate is awesome, and so is her food. We were on our way to the Zilker tree and were also on a trailer crawl across south Austin. After being disappointed by all of the closed trailers on SoCo and Barton Springs(by the convention center), we kept going toward the park, figuring we’d go somewhere else after the tree. As we passed Chuy’s, I screamed«turn there!!!» as we just about passed Kate’s trailer. SO glad we didn’t pass it up because the food is amazing. We ordered the crawfish pie, red beans and rice and pulled pork sandwich to share. As we were ordering, a conversation ensued, and when our food was ready, Kate handed us an extra bowl of shrimp gumbo she accidentally thought we ordered… guess we were gabbing too much! She gave it to us on the house, and after shoveling down the hot bowl of gumbo, we insisted on paying her for the«mistake,» it was that good. In addition to all of that food, she also gave us a basket of garlic bread… mmm. That gumbo was exactly what we needed for a chilly night, and I will absolutely go back for more. I also want to try more of her pies! The crawfish pie was full of big chunks of crawfish in a tasty sauce, deep-fried in a pastry crust. I am hooked and can’t wait to go see Kate again and eat her tasty food at the«Trailer of Lights» this weekend!

i stopped in to this inviting looking food trailer on a friends recommendation and man, i was not disappointed. i first had a bowl of the red beans and rice. the beans and rice were perfectly cooked and spiced just right. you know when it makes you want a drink, but just short of making you sweat? that’s what i’m talk’n about. i also had a crawfish pie and a bludin pie. both were good however the crawfish was out of this world. i can honestly say it was the tastiest thing i have eaten in sometime. these pies are served piping hot, don’t scorch your mouth. the people that run this food trailer are definitely serving up some very good food and a double dose of southern hospitality.

Tried the crawfish pie today and it was great. I cannot wait to go back and try the«bleudin pie.» Definitely the first time I’ve had a fried cajun pie north of I-10.

I’ll give this place 5 stars because I really enjoyed the BBQ pork sandwich. Kate knows what she’s doing. It had an amazing taste. I tried some of the pies, too. I’m looking forward to when she starts doing events at this trailer in the fall.

I wandered over here for lunch today. I’ve driven by it about 100 times(I live closeby) and decided to finally try it. In my opinion, it was a solid 3 star choice. I got the humble pie and the cajun chicken salad. The humble pie was a pretty good fried pie. The dough was crisp and slightly greasy, but that’s what you expect in a fried pie. The filling was quite tart from the mustard greens and very savory. I didn’t taste much sweet potato, but it was an interesting choice and I rather enjoyed it. I couldn’t eat 2 or 3 of them, but one was good. I would love to see how that dough would taste with a sweet filling. I also got the cajun chicken salad. In truth, it was okay. Not great, but okay. I thought it was a little on the salty side for my tastes. The chicken was executed well, and the flavors all worked(except for a bit too much salt). It was nice, but not spectacular. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I’m not hopping across multiple lanes of traffic to get back. If you are looking for something different, I think its a solid choice. My biggest gripe is that I got those two things a couple hours ago and I’m hungry again. If I spring 8 bucks for lunch it should fill me up for more than literally an hour and a half.

Kate has got some good pie! Went there just out of curiosity today and was very pleased with my Crawfish Pie. Hot and rich in flavor. Oh, did I say hot. She did warn me. There are so many good things to say about this pie. Kate knows what she is doing. I just went for a snack so next time I will make it a meal and get two. I am very interested in trying the Bluedin Pie. Boudin Sausage with Blue Cheese. Sounds delicious. Kate is warm and cozy just like her pies. Keep it up Pie Lady!

SUMMARY Just-south-of-downtown trailer has promise and delivers fried meat and veggies pies that are worth a try, and perhaps excellent if allowed to cool from their overly-high temperature. I HAD… The crawfish pie and«bloudin»(combination of boudin and a couple chunks of blue cheese). BLOUDIN The pie was apparently freshly made and was piping hot — too hot to eat at first, actually. I found the homemade boudin filling tasty, although not pork-a-liciously wonderful, like the boudin balls I’ve enjoyed in the past in my home state of Louisiana. [If you’re not familiar with boudin, it’s pork meat and organs combined with rice, onions and seasoning, often made into balls and fried or stuffed into a sausage casing.] The blue cheese was an interesting touch, and a dash of hot sauce added a nice flavor dimension. CRAWFISHPIE This pie was very hot and I think that really hurt my experience with it. When something is too hot, you just can’t taste it fully and I think that’s what happened. At any rate, in my first bite I could taste a good crawfish flavor that reminded me of a delicious crawfish etoufee — my favorite dish back home. I think my tongue was singed on that first bite because I could scarcely taste after that. OTHERNOTES Kate herself is super friendly and I do plan to return to try more. She makes a cajun chicken salad which sounds like a great idea to me. I considered saving my review for after I tried a more-cooled-down pie, but I think the fact they were so hot should be taken into account. I have no idea how you can serve a freshly made pie without serving it hot out the fryer unless you simply make the customer wait before serving it and I’m not sure that’s the answer because it would add onto the several minutes it already took to prepare and deliver. Veggie pies and a tomato salad are available. Bring cash. Kate says she plans to add a washer pit, and the place is BYOB.

Soooo happy to see a food trailer that isn’t selling tacos or sweets. Hello, Nachitoches meat pie, so happy to see you in Austin! It’s been a long time since I had a taste of true Southern comfort and Nachitoches meat pies but Kate’s Southern Comfort trailer is rocking them out like nobody’s business. Super hungry? Order two different meat pies(or a veggie one) and satiate your comfort food needs. Nachitoches style meat pies are traditionally on the small side but pack a huge punch of flavor. Traditionally a simple mix of meat and food in Louisiana, Kate mixes it up by making several different fillings. I’m now on a mission to try them all!

Katie’s Humble Pie is what Southern Comfort food is all about! A little half moon pie filled with sweet potato, collard and mustard greens and fried to perfection! Katie serves up her Cajun yummies out of an airstream perfectly located next to Sno Springs(Louisiana style sno cones) and just east of Zilker Park and across from Barton Springs. The menu changes daily and today she was serving a yummy cold Cajun Chicken salad in addition to her rotating fried pies. Katie is as charming as Southern gets and cooked at Eastside Café and Shoreline before venturing into her own trailer eatery. Humble Pie sang it first and when I think of their songs I think they where singing for Katie«I don’t need no Doctor», «Hot ‘n’ Nasty», «You’re so Good For Me» and«C’mon Everybody» who does not need some Southern Comfort?
