Tried this food truck while I was in town for SXSW. I had the gay-fil-a chicken sandwich. It’s pretty much their version of the original chic-fil-a chicken sandwich, but much larger and fresher. Great waffle fries and service too. My only complaint was the price. After getting a drink on top of it, my meal was almost $ 20 after tax and tip. Not sure if this is a place I would frequent b/c of the price point, but it’s definitely good food.

Had the buffalo chicken sandwich and waffle fries and it was more than delicious. It was just the right amount of spicy and the ranch made it so much more yummy.

I have heard some great rumors about the food trailer outside of Holy Mountain(Johnnyes) I saw the trailer at FunFunFun Fest and decided to give it a whirl. GREATDECISION. I had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. Great stuff. I believe there are some pictures of it in the photos section. I have more of an excuse to go to Holy Mountain.

After reading the reviews for this place– I decided that my bf and I needed to give it a try. We live down the street, so we just walked over last week. Johnnye’s is located on the back patio of Holy Mountain. You can get an entrée and a side for $ 8, which rarely occurs at any restaurant. My bf got two Gay Fil A’s(lol. love them for that alone), fried okra, and sweet potato fries. I got the buffalo sandwich. We waited inside because I was getting eaten alive by mosquito’s. They leave the doors open, so I continued to get eaten inside. What can ya do, especially that close to a creek. We had a drink at the bar while we waited. It only took ten mins for our food to come out, and then we quickly ran home to dig in. The buffalo chicken sandwich wasn’t too spicy or tangy. The chicken was fresh, crispy, and juicy. My waffle fries were great, and we were given a spicy homemade ketchup to enjoy with them. My bf said his meal was perfect, and I would have to agree. You can definitely tell that a lot of care goes into crafting this food. Give it a try, but remember to wear/bring bug spray.

I consider myself a comfort food connoisseur, being a native born Texan — and Johnnye’s has become my number one go-to in town for the kind of down-home deliciousness that just makes my heart feel right(if not my arteries, ha!) Every single time I eat here, I am tempted to order seconds of every thing(and sometimes do!) even though my belly is full — because it’s just soooooo goooood! My New York born Yankee father tells a story from when I was little — we were driving around my hometown of Taylor, Texas with the windows rolled down one hot summer when I was about four years old… From my carseat throne I piped, «DAAAIDDDY! I SMELLFRIIIIYYYEEDCHICKEN! I WANTFRYYYEDCHEEKENAND A BIIIGRAAAYYID!» My dad groaned, knowing that he had spawned a tiny Texan! I still love fried chicken and a Big Red, too — and I love knowing that I can have that craving satisfied perfectly by a friendly giant in a cute little trailer just about any evening. Hot damn, those fried pickles, too! These folks love to fry — and it shows.

It takes a lot to get a five star review from a gal that more often vegetarian than not, but god, I love me some Johnnye’s! I save room for a Gay-fil-a everytime I go to see a show at Holy Mountain because their fried chicken is pretty much perfect: juicy, lightly breaded, so flavorful, and really fresh tasting, and you can tell that they really pay attention to the details. Even their condiments are clever and delicious… I mean, sriracha ketchup and habanero honey? Yes please! I hear that the waffle fries and onion rings are good, but I really like their green and okra, too. I don’t know of another restaurant in town making soul food out of ingredients that are actually good for you, and so delicious, too. It’s definitely one of my favorite trailers, and definitely worth the trip downtown to check it out.

I wouldn’t dream of ordering a chicken sandwich anywhere but here. The chicken in their Gay-fil-a sandwich is so tender it could convince a chicken hater to get on board with eating it. The fried pickles are great too and the greens are plentiful and well seasoned. The food here is always extremely fresh and you know your business is appreciated.

LOVELY surprise behind Holy Mountain. I got the tenders and fried okra; both were delicious. While the tenders and okra could stand on their own, to be sure… HABENEROHONEY and SIRRACHAKETCHUP… oh my. My husband was particularly fond of the honey mustard, also home made. I will ABSOLUTELY return.

I was blown away by how amazing this fried chicken is. During a particularly awful show at Holy Mountain, we escaped to the back patio and helped ourselves to a little snack — some of the best fried chicken we have ever had. At the end of the night, our recap primarily consisted of rave reviews of this fried chicken. Normally a vegetarian, I sometimes fall off the wagon and this time I landed in a little part of heaven. Friendly service, various hot sauces by the window, fresh, hot, delicious, etc. etc.

Johnnye’s, you’ve won my heart! Comfort soul food that puts a modern spin on family recipes. Great portions, great prices, great service from the adorable husband/wife team! LOVE the Gay-Fil-A! Fried perfectly, not too heavy. Seasoned perfectly. I’ve LOVED everything I’ve tried from here(which is everything.) and not to mention the trailer and design aesthetic are brilliant. I’m a huge condiment lover so the fact that they offer a variety of house made condiments makes me want to die… habanero honey, sriracha ketchup, curry ketchup, honey mustard from scratch, and peppered pickle juice! All my favorite things in one trailer. I love you, Johnnye’s!

THANKYOU for the Gay Fil-A! Far better than its namesake, good as it gets. Coming back quick for the fried pickles. SO glad this place is up and going
