Hope In the City

The people at Hope in the City have made a wonderful impact on my life.
I started going here 6 yrs ago when came to Austin for college. It was a difficult transition, but the community at hope was a fantastic source of support. Being in their college group (hope 242) and in a small group was great. It was a place to meet with friends every week that really cared about me. They were there for me when I needed them, and I was able to do the same in return. I found a good mentor and a number of people who are great examples for me of living life and loving God well.
Like John said (below), nobody and no-​place is perfect, but HITC is pretty great. If you’re interested in following Jesus and don’t have a good community, please check it out.

I went to Hope in the City for almost 5 years and I loved it.
Having grown up in a more traditional Bible church, I at first thought that these guys were a bunch of wierdos. I wasn’t used to people doing much more than stand at their pew in worship, whereas worship at HITC is very free: the people that want to worship Jesus by dancing, dance. Those that want to sit quietly, do that. Those that want to shout out prayers, shout it out. But as I got to know people, I learned that they were genuine and accepting. I’ve since gotten involved in a hope group (small 5 – 15 person group) and made friends that have challenged me to grow in my spiritual walk.
It feels a bit strange to rate a church. You can never expect any group of people to be perfect (that’s what grace is all about!) but HITC without a doubt met my need for Christian community in Austin.
There’s also a great coffeeshop attached called «Awake Awake» for some pre-​church caffeine.
