Love this place! The Taco’s went downhill a little bit — a while back they seemed to change the tortilla and we lost out in both flavor and size somewhat. But I still like them. Biggest problem is I can’t seem to pass by when they are open. They used to be fairly regular in the morning but I haven’t seen them open in a while. Hope they come back with some consistency. Update: They have been opening up with some regularity again. Less cars seem to be there — a good thing for us but I suspect many customers might have moved on during the big gap. Let’s hope they’re back properly.

The food isn’t bad when the order is correct, but the hours are inconsistent. Sometimes they’ll be open at 8:30 — 9:00AM, sometimes they won’t.

Truly a sad story. First, you have to guess when they are open. Despite the bright green«open» sign alongside their regular sign, there was no one home this morning at 8:30AM. And second, I agree with others who said they get the order wrong. I was supposed to get 5(and I paid for 5) tacos and when I got home SURPRISE there were only 4. The taste was ok, but I don’t know what their problem is. They should either do it right, or not do it at all. For now I’m going over to Rudy’s down the street for their breakfast tacos, or I’ll simply make my own if I have the ingredients.

Hill Country Tacos used to be really good, but in the last several months they’ve gone way downhill. My order is wrong 90% of the time, usually with forgotten ingredients, undercooked(crunchy) potatoes, raw tortillas, or tacos forgotten altogether. Today was the last straw– my bean and cheese taco had cheese that was spoiled. I’m not sure I will ever go back. Their salsa is pretty good, but not worth the hassle.

So usually I love and look forward to these tacos in the morning, but recently they have been getting my order wrong it is ruining my morning. They have charged, yet forgotten many of the add-ons I get on my tacos. This has happened the last 3 – 4 times and with that consistency it is giving my doubts about their service. I might go back to them when they get their business back in check.

Amazing tacos and inexpensive. I come from New York once a month. Must have. Potato with jalapeños.

I LOVE this place! Used to live down the street but will still drive 20 minutes to get a couple of the sausage egg and cheese tacos. Only downside is that it’s cash only, but I understand having to keep costs low and giving a percentage of sales to Visa is not ideal. Staff is relatively friendly and the line moves quickly. If you’re in the neighborhood, definitely stop!

Good tacos and huge amounts of meat for a good price. I’m always surprised by how fast they can get through the line, and the staff are always friendly.

Finding some of the most satisfying foods in unexpected places is what I love about Austin. Hill Country Tacos is a drive through food truck located off 2222 at a galvanized steel storage unit business. It’s on a dirt road and feels primitive. The menu is perfect for a drive through. It has two items, Taco Loco and Super Loco. You also have an option to make your own taco. Each taco comes with a mini cup of salsa. These tacos cater to the meat club. The Taco Loco consists of egg, bacon, potato, Jimmy Dean sausage, chorizo, beans, and cheese. The taco over flows with the ingredients and taste fine without the salsa. Chorizo is the dominant flavor followed by the bean. I didn’t see much bacon, but it’s in there. The Super Taco adds ham and Elgin sausage. With the two additional proteins, I felt the Super Taco was too salty for my taste. If you want to try something different from the typical bacon, egg, and cheese taco try this place. Remember, it is cash only.

Worst place for tacos ever! I ordered 2 bacon, bean and cheese tacos, and 2 egg, cheese, potato, chorizo and bacon tacos and was told my total would be $ 4.50. I paid with a $ 20 and was given $ 10.50 back! My total in all actuality should have been $ 8.40 tops!!! I have been here multiple times before and always have an issue with my order, whether it’s monetary, missing ingredients or just incompetent staff! Save your money for a better place, deserving your hard earned cash!!!

Delicious! The tacos never disappoint and these guys have the traffic flow down to a science. Don’t let the long lines detour you from stopping by because the wait is short(and worth it!!). The taco loco is one of the best! Another plus about this place is the price! You can feed a whole family for under ten bucks! The owner is very nice and it’s great to support a local small business too

I heard rave reviews about this place. Meh. I am guessing, this is another case of, if you like meat, then this is the place for you. If you are a vegetarian, or meat doesn’t make everything magical for you, then I would recommend you go a few extra miles and find Taco Deli or Torchys or something.

I have only tried this place once, so another try is in the future before writing them off. Fairly decent tacos. Sauce was ok. Just left with the impression I would have been better off at Taco Cabana. I love going local though so I will try again and see if they can up my opinion

I have passed this place a number of times going to my doctor’s office and they usually have a few cars. I decided to stop this time with my husband in tow. We got a few of the Taco Locos(everything but sausage and ham) and I got a bacon and potato taco. They were both really good. My husband said that this was our new stopping place and to make sure my doctor’s appointments were early enough to stop by there. The tacos weren’t as large as I was expecting but still a good size. Homemade tortillas are the only thing that would make these better.

Yum! They offer Jimmy Dean ground sausage for my egg and sausage breakfast tacos :-). And they are only $ 1.50, with way more filling food than a chain like taco cabana. Tip: they only take cash at this time.

Good tacos, not great tacos. I’d put them on par with Rudy’s as far as breakfast tacos go, which is darn good company to be in. It’s drive through only, and cash only, so be prepared for that. Also part of the trailer is help together with cardboard and tape. Really. Typically that’s a surefire sign of a badass taco place, but here, my hopes were dashed. You basically have two options, the loco or the super loco. You can build your own with a la carte ingredients, but it gets expensive in a hurry, plus you’ll be the dickface holding up the line for everyone else. Speaking of, the line moves quickly and at $ 2.00 each, the tacos are a pretty good value. The portions are neither ridiculous nor skimpy, but enough to sate your hunger demons. I found that the big dollop of beans in the super loco smothered the flavor of the other ingredients. My wife’s loco had a much more vivid smokiness. The location is brilliant for the Lakeway\Steiner Ranch crowd commuting into the city, and Hills Country Tacos is super local; definitely worth stopping by.

Oh how I miss HCT, I’ve moved back to the Northeast and yearn for a portable, delicious breakfast at an outrageously affordable price. If you’ve been thinking of stopping here, do it, they are super nice and some of the best breakfast tacos in town.

Try the LOCO — everything breakfast taco: eggs, chorizo, potato, cheese, pico… the kitchen sink. Sounds huge, but are really good size for a «light» breakfast and can’t beat the $ 2.50 price tag! Their hot sauce on the side has just the right amount of burn and great flavor to enhance your eating experience. This is a food truck, but it’s drive-thru only. Strange. There’s usually a line and a guy walks down to the cars and takes orders before you can actually see the menu — so maybe look online prior to visit — or just get the LOCO as recommended. YUM! $$$CASHONLY$$$
