This place is AWESOME, have to admit that I’ve made a vice of some of these dishes. Top of my list is the Hu Tiu Ap Cho(forgive me if i butchered the spelling) A mound of veggies in this sauce that is to die for! But wait, that’s not the best part, It had these noodles that made the texture a whole new experience. It was Crisp, it was soft, it had substance! My face demanded more, and who was I to get in the way. The mind was willing, but the flesh was weak.

I’m a fan, and have been for some time. The pad Thai is good, but their chicken dishes are best. Wait staff is friendly, food is cooked in a timely manner, and it is priced right. Additional note — +1 for the spring roles and peanut sauce

I ordered the Combination Fried Rice and 2pc. Vietnamese Egg Rolls with Meat. It was delivered within the expected time, and the food was tasty for the amount and price. I ate at around 1:30pm; later in the evening at about 5:30 or so, I began feeling very sick to my stomach. I went to sleep early, at around 7:30pm, woke up at 9:30ish and almost threw out my guts, and I felt like that literally. I was fine when I woke up the next morning. Please avoid anything at this place with Meat.

Been a fan of the Oltorf Hai Ky for years, food and service is always consistently very good. However, the north store is a different story. The food doesn’t taste like the south store, but that could be a difference in the cooks, maybe. It’s not bad but seems more mediocre than the restaurant south. We could live with that and not even Unilocal about it, but, our last visit was a deal breaker for going to the north store. We were one of two tables seated for a weekend lunch. The food was still ok and still ‘mediocre’ but what really bothered us was that there were about 30+ glasses of water and maybe another 20+ glasses of tea half filled. We noticed that we(and the other table) each got one of the water glasses(and tea). The restaurant makes it ‘convenient’ for themselves by having half full glasses of water and tea, and all the wait staff have to do is throw in some ice and serve. Yuk. I have a serious problem about that. How long was the water and tea sitting there? An hour, overnight? Did any critters find their way into the glasses(airborne or otherwise)? See when I don’t see someone fill my water glass from empty, I wonder about these things and my mind can go to dark places. The second thing is that, after we got our food, there were only about 3 tables in the restaurant. The staff obviously wasn’t busy but we never once got our water glasses refilled, despite the subtle clues(empty glass at end of table, occasional ‘thump’ of an empty glass, etc.) It might have not mattered as much but spicy food requires ample water. So that’s it, no more north store. We’ll just have to visit the south store whenever we’re south.

I’ve been to at least half of the Phở joints in town and feel very comfortable giving Hai Ky three stars. It’s fine if you’re craving Phở and you’re in the neighborhood. It’s no Tan My on Payton Gin or Phở Thaison on Anderson. One thing that stuck in my craw was that we ordered hot green tea, but instead they brought us this fruity green tea abomination. Now there’s a first in an Asian join for me — no real green tea! This needs to change. Otherwise, it’s reliably decent food, just go in with the right expectations.

I got the pork vermicelli and it was ok, a little dry and a lot of lettuce to bulk up the small noodle portion. My coworkers were very happy with their dishes and the appetizers were very good

Sesame Chicken was over cooked and dry. Rice was also over cooked to the point it was almost a paste. Not a good lunch stop anymore.

Springs rolls excellent. Servers are prompt. I really enjoyed their lemonade peanut sauce and vermicelli was delicious as well. The beef was a tad undercooked. Will try salad next time.

They excellent food. I had a vegetarian dish, fried flat noodle with fried tofu. I am usually not a fan of tofu however, this dish, #101 is mouth watering delicious! A must try!

They changed their bun. They’re doing it the way everyone else does it now, so they are no longer anything special. Perhaps this way is more traditional or ‘authentic’, but I find it a lot less appealing. The bun used to be one of my favorite go-to dishes that I would stop in for every couple weeks or so. I’m afraid the loss of my favorite bun has taken Hai Ky off my list of favorite dinner haunts.

These two stars are because nice, friendly people work there. The food was simply flavorless. Sesame and General tso’s chicken tasted like the costco freezer brand I make at home for the kids. I suspect Sysco foods not hand cut breaded freshly prepared sauce. Especially since the portion was Cheesecake Factory size. A red flag. I had spicy beef phở. Left most of it there. They need to consider adding star anise or something to bring in some depth and Asian textures. People in the kitchen need to eat at Tan My or sunflower off of Ohlen road so that they can know what they’re supposed to be serving.

I’ve been craving Hai Ky all week. We decided to take our family tonight, and we were all looking forward to it. When the food arrived it looked amazing, and it tasted amazing. The problem, and reason for the low rating, was FLIES! There were so many tiny flies all around our table once our food came. We kept shooing them away so that we could try to eat. After they landed in our food we were done. We got a to go box for our daughter because she wouldn’t eat her food, but we threw it out after leaving. What a waste, but we didn’t want to take a chance that flies were in the food. I really hope they are able to get the fly problem under control. The food is good, but having flies swarm and land in your food during dinner, ruins the whole experience!

Maybe we came at a bad time, but all of our chicken was dry. They weren’t busy so I don’t know what happened there. Both entrees were super weak. The south location is alright, I guess this location just needs to tighten up their kitchen.

Consistently good food! All the Phở bowls are great… tried them all. My fav is the #41(w/ grilled chicken). The chicken soup is a «go to» when we are under the weather. All in all, this place has good food at a good price with no surprises when you order.

I love this place. The food is incredible… try the spring rolls with the peanut sauce! For an entrée, I recommend the fried rice(unlike any fried rice I’ve ever tried) any of the phở, or the ‘create your own stir-fry’ with sichuan sauce. The place is cute and usually not crowded. Outdoor seating is super cute, too.

Never any mediocrity here. The service is always top notch, you know… the kind of place that says, «the employees REALLY care!» From the moment you walk in, you’ll feel like a Queen or King of Phở! Broth? Incredible! Especially after you add oyster sauce, lime and siracha… Meat? Grade A(JK!) It’s good shit and someone wise once said, quit your bitchin’¡
