Started with the cheeseboard. Had the wild mushroom ravioli so rich and delish. The service was outstanding. The atmosphere was fantastic. Quiet, elegant, and relaxed.

Nice date night place. It’s in a quiet neighborhood and has very romantic ambiance without being over the top. It’s in a old craftsman home with lots of Windows that bring in beautiful natural light. The service was fantastic. The hostess was helpful and the server attentive and informative. We ordered the trout over a tomato salad and the duck breast with Brussel sprouts and polenta. The trout was cooked perfectly but could have used some seasoning. The tomato salad added a nice texture variance. The Brussel sprouts were delicious along with the polenta. The duck was a little over cooked but still had a great texture. Overall a good experience

Fabi + Rosi is a modern/upscale restaurant serving up some of the most delicious food I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. The menu is diverse and everything is impeccably set in place but without the ultra-fancy pinky-up snobbish attitudes. I went straight for the entrée. Duck Breast with fried brussel sprouts and polenta finished with a bourbon glaze. Oh. My. God. Granted, I ordered this dish because it contained all my favorites, but there are no words for just how floored my tastebuds were on this dish. The duck breast was cooked to perfection. It was salted just right and amazingly juicy, complemented by the satisfying crunch from the brussel sprouts and the creaminess of the polenta. I definitely savored every bite of this dish, I honestly did not want it to end! For dessert, I opted for the Chevre Tart. It was certainly very rich and perhaps not the right choice for such a warm Austin evening, but it was absolutely divine nonetheless! The candied meyer lemon provided a nice change in texture from the ultra smooth and creamy chevre cheesecake, but the runaway star of this dessert was the fresh vanilla bean crème fraîche on the side! A definite order, if you ask me!

My husband and I were visiting Austin Thursday night and scoured Unilocal for a new place to try. We landed on Fabi + Rosi due to the lack of wait time and ended up very pleasantly surprised! Very cute outdoor seating area in the middle of a little neighborhood. It was a great night, but we decided to sit inside. The décor looks like something that should be in the book«The Night Circus»! I was instantly in love, though my husband was more neutral about the whimsical interior. Nice, intimate feel and quick service. Additional perk: Thursdays happen to be half off bottles and glasses of bubbly! We ordered the crispy oyster appetizer, duck breast, and schnitzel for our meal. The best thing about all three dishes was the comforting level of flavor. There was nothing mind blowing or taste bud shattering about the food, but it was just done so well… I couldn’t stop eating(great and terrible at the same time). The oysters were unique, but had that home fried feel. The duck breast was classic with polenta and brussels, and executed excellently. The schnitzel was my favorite! Very interesting combination of flavors between the traditional german pork and beet/ginger slaw, then of course the noodle that added a strange and lovely texture. I almost didn’t share with my husband! Even though both of us were totally stuffed, we HAD to order the Krack Pie. All of the Unilocalers said so, and so did our waitress. It was worth feeling like a total glutton! Oh my goodness… still dreaming about the chewy texture of the dessert. The only thing I’d change would be to up the level of «hooch» in the cream. It supposedly had whiskey in it, but we couldn’t take anything to that extent. Overall, really impressed and definitely going back for more next time we’re in Austin!

Went here for a date night with my boyfriend and can say I have absolutely no complaints. Quick rundown: –absolutely adorable /beautiful space! –great wines –amazing food(I ordered the ravioli and boyfriend had the schnitzel — both amazing) –perfect atmosphere especially for a date night –really reasonably priced(I was definitely expecting it to be pricier). Highly recommended!

This is a beautiful and quaint restaurant housed away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was hard to find because the streets were pretty dark, but they have tons of Christmas lights strung up on their trees so it was easy to spot. They have a parking lot across the street by an apartment complex. It’s very dark inside and they have very interesting décor(chalkboard walls, a deer head painted white, etc). I was here for a sponsored dinner so I didn’t have to pay. I do have to say that I’m not a big fan of modern European food, but if you like that kind of food you’ll love it here. I had the black mushroom ravioli and I really liked it, plus it was a pretty large portion. I would not come back here because of the prices, but it is a nice treat if you get a chance.

Service was great. Food was just okay. We had appetizers and salads. It wasn’t out of sight, but the prices were not cheap. As a Chicagoan, I was looking for more. Sort of like The Radler quality. They were good but not that kind of quality, and the prices were higher.

I decided to have my birthday bash at Fabi + Rosi which they were accommodating. I just had to email them in advanced. It’s in a small house on Hearn St, off of Lake Austin Blvd. They sat my party in the back room. Lights were dim which gives it a romantic feel to the restaurant. Though I assure you there was no romance at my birthday bash. I started out with the Metzger Board which was meat platter with Chicken Liver Paté, Smoked Hausmacher, Wagyu Tartare which was excellent. I had it with a red wine Couran — Cotes Du Rhone from France. Then came the Beeman Ranch Wagyu Steak with House Made Truffle Fries in which I had it medium rare. There’s parking on the street. Overall I recommend this place because the food and service was excellent.

This is one of the more pleasant dining experiences that we’ve had recently. The menu is unusual and perhaps a bit daunting– I don’t think there’s another place in Austin that has hasenpfeffer and schnitzel on the menu. Admittedly, since I’m not from an area with a lot of German cuisine, I was a bit hesitant to give it a try. With the help(and a couple of gentle suggestions) from our waitperson, we made selections that we liked– imaginative and delicious re-interpretations of traditional German dishes. Each plate– from the appetizer to the main course to the dessert had a unique flavor. The ingredients were fresh. The flavors ran the gamut from bold to subtle. I had a very nicely prepared duck breast– something that seems to be a bit of a challenge to find in Austin. Duck breast, In addition to being very seasonal in Austin, seems to be a stumbling block for many restaurants. Austin chefs seem to be prone to oversalting and overcooking duck which makes for a tough, chewy experience. Fabi + Rosi’s duck was prepared perfectly with a lightly crisp skin and tender, tasty interior. The sauce was not overpowering. and nicely balanced the flavor of the meat. The duck was paired with fried brussel(sic) sprouts and a creamy polenta– very unusual selections but very tasty and a nice complement to the meat. What sets Fabi +Rose apart from so many Austin restaurants is that it is a quiet, intimate and even romantic restaurant. It’s so nice not to have to strain to hear your dining companion over the din of the restaurant. It was a bit pricey but not outrageous for this level of dining. For a meal for the two including dessert and no alcohol, it was a little less than $ 100 including the tip. If you are looking for a different dining experience with a close friend or a place where you can have a nice conversation with your date, then this is a good choice.

This place was so lovely! SOLID dinner. Some things to help you: –Great service — waiters know their stuff –Great food — most entrees are under $ 20 but I’d highly recommend splurging & getting the scallops. –There’s parking across the street fo free. –The feel is like upscale Rainey St, so it’s a hip/trendy yet laid back vibe — good for a date night. A hidden gem that’s a great alternative to other places where parking /traffic is stressful. Highly recommend!

Excellent ambiance and food to match. Happy hour selections are generous and delicious. Wine and beer specials also great. We brought 3 older ladies with us and each enjoyed very much and kept ordering more wine! Bathrooms were very clean and large. Only ding would be that I was too hot in there and had to get some air outside. May have just been me after few glasses of wine. They have lovely outside area to sit on a cool 60 degree evening. Check it out!

If I were rating purely based off of the food, I would rate Fabi & Rosi a 3.7, but add on the ambiance and it bumps this place up to about a 4.5. The atmosphere is so quaint and comfortable yet classy at the same time. That added to the soft chatter of diners makes for a lovely experience. The man who seated us was equally lovely — so friendly and we could tell he genuinely loved what he did. Food: we got the escargot and the Metzger Board to start. Our waiter made a small mistake and gave us oysters instead of escargot, but quickly corrected it and we got the oysters on the house! :) the escargot was lacking in flavor, in my humble opinion. It wasn’t quite garlicky and buttery enough to my liking. The fried oysters were pretty tasty and very crispy! The Metzger board was incredible mostly because the wagyu tartare was to die for. Definitely the best red meat tartare I have had to date. For the main courses, I got the trout and my boyfriend went with the wagyu sirloin(he got it medium rare). The trout was perfect. Light, savory, with just a hint of sweet from some pomegranate seeds in the salad — amazing! I was initially worried about the dill sauce being a bit overwhelming(I usually find dill sauces too strong), but the chef made it so that it complemented the fish well without overwhelming it. The wagyu sirloin was pretty good as well. I would have preferred it to be made rare though since it would have made the meat more tender(my bf agreed that he should’ve listened to me). The truffle fries were great. Overall, a pleasant experience for a simple and casual night!

The target market for this place must be the un-experienced, young, hipster crowd that probably wouldn’t know the difference between a good restaurant and a bad one. I have never seen Wagyu steak for under $ 125.00. Needless to say, I was quite curious as to what this could be?(Since it was $ 35.00.) This didn’t come close to the three Wagyu steaks I had last week in San Antonio. Seriously I had three last week. I should know what Wagyu tastes like and this wasn’t it. I normally pay about $ 149.00 for a 14 oz Wagyu ribeye. This was worse steak I have had in Austin. I mean this was chewy, subprime, with gristle on it. Waiter said the steak had been dry aged. Pretty sure not. I’ve had a better breakfast steak at Denny’s. I knew something was up when it was served on top of fries… Lol. I was seriously hoping to find Wagyu here in Austin. Very disappointed. I should also mention the clams: don’t bother. Beer, butter and lemon; is what the sauce tasted like. Not good. The wine list was pointless. Bunch of wines you will most likely never see again that were in my opinion; overpriced. Let me say our waiter was prompt, professional and courteous, but my steak was cooked more than I asked for, I also always find it hard to get a non-steak place to cook a steak rare. And this would certainly not be a steak place or a place that I would consider fine dining. Also, please note the professional reviewers that seem to be cleaning this thread. you can always tell theses guys, by the number of reviews they post. you should ignore them.

My dad usually dislikes trying new restaurants and can be critical of what he eats, but he absolutely loved Fabi and Rosi. His mother was German and he spent several years living in Germany, so we try to stay in touch with our German heritage when we can. For my 21st birthday, we chose Fabi and Rosi and couldn’t have been more delighted. The restaurant itself is very chic looking and clean. We arrived just after opening at 5:05pm and were taken to probably one of the best tables in the house, in the front by the cornered windows. We were there for happy hour, so ordered two appetizers: escargot and brotzeit board. I had a sweet rosé sparkling wine and my mother enjoyed a brut cava. Excellent beverages, even the water was good! Our meals were even more delicious– we ordered and can recommend the schnitzel, hasenpfeffer, and the sirloin steak. Each was rich in flavor, skillfully cooked, and left us satisfied. We kept trying each other’s dishes and commenting on how good everything was! Some negative reviews here talk about the wait and how filling the food is. The menu includes a disclaimer that all food is prepared from scratch, so to expect a wait. If you come prepared to wait a little longer than usual for good food, order some drinks and appetizers, and just enjoy the company of the people you came with, you won’t notice the wait at all! As for how filling the food is, I think it definitely depends on what you get and whether or not you ordered an appetizer. I usually get stomach pains after eating regular sized meals, but was able to eat 2 shared appetizers and the hasenpfeffer comfortably because I paced myself. The hasenpfeffer may seem a bit small for some people, but the meat and dumplings were so filling(on top of the appetizer) that it satisfied me perfectly. My parents didn’t finish all of their dishes though, and my mom took half of her steak and fries home because it was so filling. So it really depends what you get. If you know you aren’t easily filled or are quickly filled, ask the knowledgeable waiter for recommendations. There’s something for everyone! In summary: quality all around in the location, service, and food. We appreciated the happy hour prices as well!

I tried out Fabi + Rosi with my boyfriend for the first time over the weekend(spoiler alert: loved it). We arrived at around 6:30 on a Friday, and the wait was only around 20 minutes. While you’re waiting, you can hang out in their little lounge area and order drinks and apps and such. We started out with the Brotzeit Board(usually $ 15, $ 8 during HH I believe). The pickled veggies were delish, the beer cheese was yummy, but the real standout was the pretzel. Amazing texture, moist, soft, delicious, yum! I can’t comment on the bratwurst, the the boyfriend loved that as well. For dinner, I ordered the Ich Liebe Tiere($ 14). It’s a vegan plate of daily veggies and grains. That day’s plate consisted of kale with some sort of amazing dressing, mashed sweet potatoes, quinoa stuffed mushrooms, and a few other things I’m forgetting. The highlight for me was definitely the kale.(I admit, not something I say super often.) For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse, which was served with some sort of wonderful, crunchy chocolate crackers. And, as the boyfriend put it «vanilla mousse that is less sweet and not as good as the chocolate mousse» — that would be the whipped cream. It was fantastic and paired really nicely with the Moscato. The interior of the restaurant is super cool. I especially love all the different lights!

Yesterday evening, I took my daughter to Fabi+ Rosi. We weren’t here to celebrate anything and she was hardly dressed for the occasion, wearing wind shorts and a t-shirt. No matter, everyone there treated us well, as they always do. F + R is one of my go-to places. It’s where I find myself when someone suggests meeting for happy hour, but can’t think of where to go. It’s one of the first places I think of when I want a girl’s night out. It’s a place I go to when I want to cap off a night with some bubbles and a chèvre cheesecake(yes, there have been two occasions where this happened). It is good, it is consistent, it is adorably decorated and the service is always friendly, professional and warm. Let me start the review by saying this is one of my favorite places for happy hour. All the apps and salads are $ 5.00 except for the boards, which are $ 8.00. The portions are not reduced, nor the quality, just the price. Last night we shared the mussels and frites, crispy oysters and my favorite, the escargot. The mussels were delicious, served with crusty, buttery bread to soak up the rich broth. The frites… oh my goodness, the frites! Crispy, yet tender truffle dusted, seasoned perfection served with a bit of cold bernaise sauce! Heaven! The oysters were crispy and yet moist inside, not rubbery or over done. Served on a smear of sauce and with a couple of grilled lemon wedges. The escargot is a buttery, garlicky dish of six meaty escargot covered with seasoned bread crumbs. It was a little over-salted last night, but still amazing and is by far, my favorite dish. Still hungry, we chose the mushroom ravioli for me and the duck breast for her. The ravioli is two large pasta completely stuffed with filling and covered with a light broth like sauce and tender mushrooms. They were fantastic and my daughter ate 2⁄3 of one of them, off my plate. The duck was tender and delicious, served with polenta and Brussels sprouts, which my daughter doesn’t like. She wasn’t in love with the duck, either and was wishing she had ordered the lamb. Carlos, our waiter overheard and when our meal was finished he said he would treat us to dessert. Sydney joked to me(out of earshot from him) that it would probably be something chocolate(which she doesn’t like). It was. Chocolate mousse, which was very rich and filling. When he noticed she wasn’t eating it, he asked her if she didn’t like it. She sheepishly replied that she didn’t like chocolate. He then brought out a chèvre cheesecake tart for her. He was so sweet and treated us so well, but that isn’t unusual here. I will definitely be back. I struggled with the rating. The food is consistently good, although there were a couple of things over-salted, and the service is always amazing. I would like to see them change the menu up more often, especially with the dessert options, but don’t touch that escargot!

Really closer to 4.5 stars. What a wonderful, charming small space. The converted house might read a little bit old school architecture on the outside(what was originally a house was built in 1903 after all); however, the interior is very welcoming, warm, dimly lit, and sleek with modern lines meets retro flare. Very well done! The larger dining areas located when you walk in can be quite loud(they pack ‘em in), so if you desire a little more serene experience asked to be seated in the back room — it’s not exactly a private dining area, but almost feels like it holding a relatively small amount of tables. The service was impeccable; all the way from calling to inquire about reservations(only available for parties of 6 or more) to being greeted, seated, and doted on throughout the evening(ask for Sam!) without being pretentious at all. The Chef/Co-owner(his wife is the other), Wolfgang(simply Wolf to those who know him), is from Germany and the Western Euro influence is obvious; however, don’t come in only expecting sausage and schnitzel, albeit both are on the menu. ;) The choices are not overwhelming(only about 20 total items available, including apps, soups, and salads) which I very much appreciate. I always admire the keep it simple and do it well concept. The appetizers did not disappoint(can’t wait to go back for happy hour when they are only $ 5!!!). There was nothing particularly mind-blowing about any of them, but they were good. Well-prepared and as expected from similar establishments. The table(well, I guess us peeps sitting at the table rather) devoured the P.E.I. Mussels with crustinis; added truffle fries for small up charge. No dead guys in the bowl(always a good sign of quality control), tasty broth, and the fries were crispy and obviously infused with truffle oil(no truffle shavings); however, they were happily not overly«fragranced» as so many places have a tendency to do. The Escargot were plump and perfectly topped with toasted breadcrumbs — the garlic butter left over and bread for sopping always being the best part of course. The Crispy Oysters(to me just a fancy way to say fried oysters) were melt in your mouth, not at all greasy, and the charred lemon wedges presented on the plate really elevated the overall flavor. Very smart. The only edible let down was the Kraftbrühe: So excited about the idea of bone marrow dumpling soup! Sadly the beef consomeé lacked in depth and the dumplings tasted surprisingly just like Matzo balls. Meh. One miss — no biggy. The Smoked Lamb Chop entrée was VERY generous, with three large chops served with a lovely sauce. The staff does not ask what temp you like your lamb, so I advise you make a request. In my personal opinion, the lamb(albeit well-seasoned) was really overcooked — super well-done. I prefer a little more rare, so next time I know — this is a dish I will be ordering again. For me, the absolute highlight was the Hasenpfeffer + Bretzelknödel: Slow braised Rabbit Stew entrée with a fantastic assortment of root vegetables and the most amazing dumplings! My only complaint is that I want more please! I’m so happy my friends and I finally made it to Fabi + Rosi. It’s been on my list to do for quite some time. Dinner for four with plenty of food and drinks only ~$ 150+tip is not bad at all. Trust me… I will be returning soon… probably between the hours of 5−6pm for $ 5 apps, $ 8 boards, and $ 2 off beer and wine. Maybe I’ll see you there! –My apologies for the slightly blurry pics. Husband glared when I tried to use a flash. ;) Tips: *Parking is a breeze! Available in front on street and in private lot across. **They do have a private«Back Room» for special events: seats up to 24 with $ 800 minimum. [159 in 2015]

Fabi and Rosi served our group a phenomenal diner! We started off by sharing the cold shareable plates: cheese platter with crackers and jam, charcuterie plate and the soft pretzel. All bites and noshes from this grandiose trio were delicious and inviting for more haha My appetizer was a cold corn soup of the day and it was amazing, creamy, tactfully tasty and very filling. I had the crusted halibut for my main course and enjoyed it very much, not a fan of the caper and olive mix but it was alright. From our large group, I had a bite of both cuts of steak, amazing… I tried the ravioli, it was huge and delicious and I also took a bite of the schnitzel, marvelous. Desserts consisted for the chocolate mousse, and the crack pie. Both outstanding. I highly recommend this charming restaurant if visiting Austin. Easily accessible via taxi or Über, but not walking distance from the city center.

I just got a horribly uninformative and frustrating email from what seems to be the owner(Cassie) basically refusing to give me info on booking a large private party for potentially 50 people. Needless to say, our money will be spent elsewhere as a result. The website says to email for booking large parties but the response that I got to my email said«info can be found on our website under the Back Room.» Website says send email… email response says visit website. How would I have even gotten the email address if I hadn’t checked the information on the website first? Even if all the info I needed was on the website(which it’s not and was the basis for my e-mail in the first place) you should still provide answers to my questions via the e-mail anyways. I hate to be writing this without even having tried the food but it really set the tone for what an actual visit to this restaurant might be like. If the owner doesn’t care about the customers why would anyone else who works there care?

Huge fan of the happy hour at Fabi + Rosi from 5−6pm. All starters are $ 5, boards just $ 8, and $ 2 off Wine and Beer. After reviewing the menu it would be easy to think the restaurant is owned by a French and German couple. You would only be half right. The husband is from Germany, but the wife is a native Austenite. Fabi + Rosi is a charming romantic restaurant located in a historic 1903 renovated craftsman bungalow. Everything on the menu is made in house from«butchering to baking». They use only all natural seasonal food which is sourced locally. A majority of the veggies and herbs come from the backyard garden, and the eggs from their chickens. For a «farm to table» type restaurant, the prices are fairly reasonable. Everything we ordered was tasty. We tried the escargot, P.e.i mussels w/truffle fries, Kase board, and Brotzeit board. Everything was excellent, except the mussels were a bit small and flavorless. It’s hard to say what was the best, as everything was very good. My friends loved the pretzel, and the escargot was great. The truffle fries was the table favorite. Probably some of the best fries we have ever had, I heard several say. I would have to agree with them. There is a small parking lot across the street. They also have a small outdoor seating area that is tree shaded.

I really enjoyed my experience at this place. First off, if you are looking for this place. It is hidden in the most unexpected location. I thought that I had put in the address incorrectly when I first arrived, because we arrived in a neighborhood, but I think this place used to be a house, but was transformed into a restaurant. The place itself is very cozy and intimate, which is my favorite type of atmosphere. Our waitress was very sweet and patient, and her outfit matched the French theme, which I appreciated. The décor of this place is very cute, and the lights that hang are very pretty. I almost wanted to ask where they had bought them. For food, we started off with the mussels, which were very good. Next, I ordered the Black Forest Mushroom Ravioli. I thought the pasta shell was very fresh, and it tasted like it had just been made. The mushrooms on the plate were also very tasty and complemented the ravioli very well. I think this is one of their highly recommended dishes on Unilocal, and I could definitely see why. For dessert, we shared a chocolate mousse, which was very very sweet and chocolatey. It was very fluffy and light, and I loved the waffle shaped sugar that came with the plate. Overall, I think this is a very intimate and casual place for a date. I am not a huge fan of places that are over the top fancy, so I think this will definitely be a place to return for a date.

Came here on a Mon night a little after 7pm, no wait. There is street parking in front of the restaurant plus a small parking lot across the street. The restaurant has a very elegant feel, is good for large or small parties. We ordered: Escargot — very tasteless, no seasoning(both of us agreed, we didn’t finish it) Metzger board(Chicken liver pâté/beef tartare/pork terrine combo) — beef was amazing, pâté was ok a bit sweet, terrine was good Duck Breast — very good Halibut — dry, not recommended Chevre Tart — rich texture, delicious I would rate it 3.5 stars, rounded up for the tart.
