Yes. Do it. Excellent chicken, carne asada, et al. The most casual place imaginable. Walk up window only. Feed a small army for under ten bucks on the carne asada!

I was a little hesitant to try this place a couple weeks ago because the exterior looked a little shifty. But looking at the menu, I got really excited. And then when I actually got my food(carne asada, the number 2 meal), I was blown away. The meat was so juicy and tender, then you add the whole grilled onion, fresh pico de gallo, and their spicy avocado sauce… BOMB! You get a huge amount of food for $ 9. It’s the best carne asada I’ve had since I moved to Texas. We’ve gone back almost every week.

I didn’t know what to expect when I pulled up to El Pollo Regio, but I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. It’s not a real restaurant per se, just a kitchen with a window that you order from. You walk up to the window, place your order, pay and wait. We got the pollo entero, which is a whole charcoal grilled chicken that comes with rice, beans, corn tortillas, two different types of salsas, a grilled onion and a wedge of lime. The whole thing was under $ 20 and came out quick. It was clear that the cashier didn’t understand a bunch of English, but unless you need to customize your order, a working knowledge of Spanish isn’t necessary. Perfect for to-go orders and quick dinners.

The place looks a little sketchy from the outside, but the food inside is amazing! The chicken is always made to perfection and goes well with the beans and sauces.

not impressed. sub standard food. the cashier seemed unenthused about her job. there was a pile of human feces near the front door that looked like it had been there for a while.

The best of the best! Whenever I don’t want to cook this is the best place to go for me Since the meat is super tasty, delicious legit taste of Mexico, I can approve since I was born there. I think the people there already know me because I go there all the time: P

A coworker told me about this place and i was a little hesitant but i finally do go here and got the grilled beef taco. It was way to awesome! The beef is decent quality and the sauces they make are great. If your going to Chipotle give this a try. Avocado is not extra here its already in there! Bam! To good to pass up!

Was getting my car serviced at the Toyota dealership nearby. Was looking at the Unilocal app for restaurants nearby and Pollo Regio came up. I’m new to Austin and have driven by Pollo Regio several times. I like hole in the wall ethnic restaurants that aren’t chains. I read many positive reviews on Unilocal so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a whole chicken and a carne assado. The reason for the two star rating was the chicken was very dry even the dark meat. This was disappointing because most of the reviews I read everyone raved about the chicken. The seasoning and flavor of the chicken was very good and I would have given another star if it wasn’t dry. The carne assado was very good. It is a generous portion. Many of the reviews I read raved about the corn tortillas but to me they were average, nothing wrong with them but nothing special to rave about. The green salsa was very good. The food was good enough to give it a second try. Hopefully the chicken will be juicy next time.

Every time I come to get a chicken quesadilla they never have any! It’s a chicken place for crying out loud! And the girl that is the cashier is not very friendly. I think they are homophobic! They always have stuff just funny when I come they don’t have anything! Also they also never have anything after 6 because they are always busy cleaning up. This place has horrible customer service but I guess that is what you get when you are on Ohlen Road !

I absolutely loved the half chicken meal, #13 with corn tortillas Eating Gluten Free on the run is difficult so I really appreciate a healthy filling alternative. This place sells Heaven in a bag. Plus my cat likes the chicken too. El Pollo Regio gets 5 stars and 4 paws

Read a review here that it was a good place to eat, so it was in the neighborhood and found it, it is a Mexican fast food place, you order, pay and take out. I ordered half chicken with grilled onions beans and rice. Come with homemade tortillas and great salsas, the chicken was juice and well seasoned, also the beans, yummy, the rice was ok but I paid $ 10.00 so it is afforable. So try it, you are going to love it.

This is the best charcoal chicken I’ve had ever! The beans and rice were exceptional and the tortillas will melt in your mouth, so good and fresh that you could just eat them by themselves. There is no seating in this place, just a small window your stick your hand in and call out a number for what you want to order. And outcomes the goodness in a plastic bag with sauces of two kinds, a whole grilled onion, and rice and beans. Also has some fresh made tortillas in an aluminum foil wrap. Devour this crazy goodness with a chilled beer and you’ll be in heaven.

We ordered the #1 which is the whole chicken with rice and beans. This meal easily feeds 2. The meal was absolutely delicious. I’m not a big fan of whole chicken but this was seasoned perfectly. If you go you must get the green sauce. Just a warning though that they don’t have seating. You walk up and order at a window. There was no wait for us.

Only take out it seems. But man the whole chicken meal was sooooooo well seasoned. Texans know how to barbeque. Definitely tagged the coal smokiness… Green sauce was a tad spicy. Beans was delish. I recommend going to the Moller lake park nearby for a picnic! The order feed us four with fruits we brought. Definitely getting more beans next time!

The 6 dollar chicken taco is amazing just as everybody else has said. Absolutely massive with beautifully shredded white meat, wonderful verde sauce and plenty of sour cream. Can’t wait to explore the other menu items!

While I’m also a fan of the chicken served by their competition across the street, I’ve got to give El Pollo Regio higher marks based on their chicken seeming to have more char-grilled flavor. It also seems to be a bit moister based on the times I’ve picked up family meals from both places. The rest of the family meal components seem relatively equal, though El Regio was more generous with the amount of corn tortillas included. You can’t go wrong either way, but you can go slightly more right with Regio.

Pollo Regio has been hit by inflation but it’s still damn cheap. And I’m here to drop a knowledge bomb on you about it that hasn’t been repped in my previous reviews: Carne Asada Tacos are a game changer. I sent a friend over there who was wasting away from hunger and starvation(or a hangover) and she came back without chicken. I was shocked. «What have you done? What have you DONE?» and then the most glorious little carne asada taco entered my mouth and the angels sung Selena. Now of course I’m screwed because I have to explore their whole menu and let’s get real here, everything on it probably involves about a stick of butter. Worth it? Totally.
