The stylist I previously saw left the salon, she recommended Pele to me. So, I booked a haircut with her. She was PHENOMENAL! Gave me exactly what I asked for.
I rebooked with her a few months later, and went for a pretty substantial cut — more than 10 inches. Again, she gave me exactly what I wanted.
I’m so happy to have found my hair’s stylist soul mate!

I am so glad I found this place! Melanie is fantastic. I came in with frizzy, tired, washed-​out temporary red/​turning pink hair and I left with natural looking, sleek, smooth, dark blonde hair — which is exactly what I wanted. Melanie took the time to talk me through what she was doing and I felt completely comfortable putting my hair in her hands. So grateful I found such an amazing, caring and talented stylist. I will definitely be back!

I love The Cutting Room! Melanie gave me the fabulous hair I have always wanted. She was so meticulous with my cut; she really took the time to make sure it was perfect, which it was. I have really thick hair and am usually never happy with hair cuts, but she is so talented! I loved it. Later that month, I had Melanie do my color too. She took the time to understand exactly what I wanted and worked with me to pick what would look best. She did an INCREDIBLE job. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my hair. It’s exactly the color I’ve always wanted it to be! Definitely choose Melanie to cut and color your hair. She is warm and pleasant and SUPER talented. Honestly, I love my hair and I’ve never been able to say that before.

I had the hardest time finding a downtown (reasonably priced) bridal updo salon for my wedding. Without ever having spoken to Tracy I came in with a photo of what I wanted and she went to work! 45 minutes later had the perfect bridal updo.
She is super sweet and listened to all of my suggestions! Highly recommended!

Went to Austin for a MEC and stayed four days to enjoy the sites and sounds. Really was tired of the extra hair on my head so I Unilocaled salons. This was my second choice. Made an apt and walked from the Radisson downtown. Melanie greeted me promptly after cleaning her station.
I wanted a pixie cut and Melanie took her time to understand what and how I wanted it. Even looking at photos of when my hair was shorter. Cut, was hand style took 1.25 hours and I am really happy with the quality of the cut. I don’t need Product to make it style, it works perfectly with or without it.
I am from Kalamazoo area, so price was higher than I am used to but still fair. $ 60 and I gave ten for a tip.

Love, love, love! Pele is the best! I have been searching everywhere for a regular stylist in Austin and I have finally found her. I have long hair and she layered it so beautifully and gave it fabulous movement without taking a lot of length off. I was very impressed. I’ve been asking for this haircut at every salon but she’s the first to get it right. She was very genuine and I really enjoyed my visit today. She gave me a sample of this product that i was asking about to try before i bought it, which was refreshing, normally they try to get you to spend another forty in product before you get out the door. So needless to say, I will be returning to her chair for all my salon needs. Thanks Pele, I’m so happy, You’re fabulous!

I was so absolutely impressed with this place, would recommend it to everyone! I don’t live in Austin but I had my wedding there so I went in on a whim hoping they could give me a cute, elegant updo. Sherry styled my hair and did an absolutely AMAZING job! She was so fun and easy to talk to, knew exactly what I was looking for and gave me a beautiful hairstyle that lasted all night. Absolutely fantastic place, I wish I lived in Austin so I could go back!

I was visiting Austin, and it happened to be time for a hair cut, so I choose the Cutting Room because it had good reviews. I took the luck of the draw and received Jenny as my stylist. I have thin, fine, straight hair and wanted a precise cut with long layers just below my chin. She cut my hair EXACTLY how I asked her to, and it ended up looking even better than I thought it would. I’m very happy! If I lived in Austin, this would totally be my regular salon.

I just had my first cut with Sherry and am very pleased. I wasn’t completely sure what I wanted, but Sherry was attentive and patient with me.
She took my feedback and was happy to make alterations in the plan as she went along. She also took the time to show me some techniques and there was no hard-​sell on products and services.
The salon is very comfortable and cozy. Everyone was very friendly and the other clients seemed very happy – always a good sign. The location is great and there’s parking, which I appreciated.
I left the salon feeling very satisfied and looking forward to my next visit.

I’ve spent many hours looking into the mirror (completely mesmerized) by how beautiful my hair looks since I had it done! For six years my hair was a glamorous white blonde. As I grew out of my early twenties I also grew out of my bombshell hairdo. I knew that correcting my color and getting back to my roots (literally) was not going to be an easy job for a hair dresser. I also wanted my color exact, natural looking and non-​damaging. So I shopped around for a few days.
During my consultation with Shelly, she explained the process in great detail being very honest about what could and could not be done. The most impressive part of my consultation was that Shelly referred me to Tracey: someone she thought could give me the best results! Talk about refreshing honesty! That made me comfortable that I was in the right hands.
So Tracey matched my hair to my skin and eye color– genius. The process was careful, gentle and exciting. I could tell that Tracey enjoyed doing my hair, talking to me and when I was freaking out about how gorgeous my hair looked — so was she! Tracey has 26 years of experience and it shows! I have never been more impressed by a stylist! Or for that matter– I can’t believe their teamwork!
The icing on the cake is this– an tell me this isn’t adorable– Today Shelly left a voice mail that said she saw pictures of my hair and that she loved it. What! I mean… What?! What a nice gesture! How can I not have a great day after that? You have a loyal customer for life. Thank you Ladies!

After bouncing around to several Austin salons without ever finding the right one, I finally came across the Cutting Room and I’ve never looked back. It was actually based on the recommendation of my then-​boyfriend, now-​husband, so I was skeptical at first. Don’t guys go to Super Cuts or Sports Clips or something?
I got my first haircut from Pele at the Cutting Room a few years ago, and I’ve been returning to her ever since. (So has my husband, actually.) I highly recommend Pele! What a skilled stylist and just genuinely awesome person. She styled my hair for my engagement photos last spring, and also did my bridal updo for my wedding last week. I seriously received compliments on my hair all night, and it even lasted until the next morning! She did one of those great braided updo’s and it looked so beautiful. It was spot on, exactly what I wanted. And the fact that she can also tame my husband’s unruly hair is an incredible feat all its own.
Sherry and Tracy did my mother’s and sister’s hair for the wedding as well, and both did wonderful work! We all looked amazing thanks to their expertise. The Cutting Room also has a great atmosphere, and all the staff is super friendly, professional and helpful. Highly recommended, whether you need a simple cut, color, a new look, or updo for an event.

This is a great little place with a cozy, relaxing atmosphere. Sherry has done my color for over two years now (highlights every time). I remember way back when, after the first time she did it, my hair was a little too dark. So I called a few days later and asked if I could come in to have it fixed. Not only did Sherry fix it, she refused to let me pay her for the fix-​up. That was a nice touch and she won my continued business with that gesture.
We’ve been exclusive since then (sherry and I), and now I recommend this place to friends who (like me), are particular about wanting their highlights to look natural. Yep, its prior good reviews are totally on-​point; the Cutting Room = another win for Austin!

My favorite salon! Pele Lewis-​Zavala is my stylist and she does an amazing job! I just moved to NYC, but planning to visit my friends in Austin a few times a year (just an excuse to get the perfect hair cut!)

I love the cutting room. Alana does my cut and color. Having wavy/​curly hair I have had trouble finding someone in Austin who gives me a good cut for my hair type. Alana does an amazing job. 2.5 months later hair keeps the shape. She is awesome at color too. I used to go to Jackson Ruiz and couldn’t take the atmosphere there, they think they are soooo good and trendy. Well sorry Jackson Ruiz, Cutting Room kicks your butt with every cut and color. I have recommended this Cutting Room to friends and they have all loved it.

For at least fifteen years, I have been going to the Cutting Room, first with Robin, the Color Diva of Austin, then when I finally decided to hack the whole thing off and go Naturel, Oscar has been doing my haircuts for the last ten years. His clients are quite fiercely loyal, and for good reason. The salon uses Aveda products and offers full service, including spa treatments, and the folks working there are among the friendliest anywhere. I’ll keep going there for haircuts as long as they keep their doors open. I have fine wimpy hair, and they make it look good with little effort on my part. Can’t beat that!

What a great group of people! oh – and they cut a mean hairstyle too.
The Cutting Room is an Aveda salon a few blocks north of 6^th street near the Star Bar, and it’s the only place I truly trust with my otherwise stringy, fine hair! I usually go to Aimee Walden, but the other stylists have cut my hair in the past and are fantastic.
Aside from the warm personalities and fine stylin, you will never feel rushed or dismissed: This is a place you can count on to take care of you!
I’m pretty bare bones and usually just get cuts, but the salon *is* a full-​service salon, with a pretty spa downstairs. My treatment of choic would be a pedi from Roxanne Krier; she truly makes nail treatments a luxury and an art.
