I reached out in a vegan fitness page asking for help dialing in some nutrition in order to kick butt, prove to my doubtful Crossfit coaches that a vegan can not only do, well but also succeed and surpass others in a 21-day fitness challenge. Mike reached out quickly offering his help and we came up with a nutrition plan to help me crush my goals in this challenge. Disclaimer: Mike is not a nutritionist BUT he’s been in this business for quite some time and knows his stuff. There aren’t many people in this industry that I actually trust and Mike just happens to be one of the select few. Not only did he help with my nutrition, but he also made a point to let me know that he was available 24/7, just incase I needed someone to talk to, especially if I was struggling staying on track. He always told me, if you feel like you aren’t going to make it through, just call or text at any hour and I’ll help talk you through it. Who does that?! Anyways, back on track! I weighed in on an electrical impedance machine: Day One Weight: 149lbs Body Fat Mass: 45.9lbs Muscle Mass: 56.7lbs Percent Body Fat: 30.7% Day 16 Weight: 142lbs Body Fat Mass: 35.3lbs Muscle Mass: 58.9lbs Percent Body Fat: 24.8% Day 23 Weight: 139.8lbs Body Fat Mass: 36.6lbs Muscle Mass: 56.4lbs Percent Body Fat: 26.1% *For all intensive purposes, my friend and I ended our challenge on day 16 due to Holiday parties. I went off my diet plan twice out of the 21 days but wanted to stay on track as best as I could through the rest of the days. I did end up winning for most percent of body fat lost and most importantly, I felt better than I had in years. My body rapidly started changing and the proof of Mike’s plan combined with workouts was shown in how my body was changing. I know with almost 100% certainty that I would not have done as well on this challenge if it weren’t for Mike. One thing that I’ve learned about Mike since we worked together is that his heart, passion for health and fitness all combined with his compassion and love for animals is way larger than I could have even begun to imagine. Honestly, despite his size, I’m not sure where he fits his heart. One day, I’ll get my butt down to Austin just so I can work with Mike in person. This gym is so amazing. The owner is a total bad ass. I love the layout and what he wants to do in the future. Super ambitious, great motivation. Nice fun environment. Got the rustic look which is how a gym should look! I am so honored to train here. I’m ready to see the future but very content with the present day of this gym!!!

Ever have that little voice in your head actually tell you«you can’t do it?» — If so, Mike will kill it for you. Forget the fancy gyms where you can’t grunt or throw weights on the floor. This isn’t an experience for people who enjoy Foie Gras-infused vodka fro-yo. If you’re offended by just about everything anyone says on Facebook, also not your gym. This is where you lift iron and change your life. Not a big fan of honesty or imperfection? Then head to the sassy club downtown — this ain’t your place. Here you’re going to sweat and face your demons and lift heavy things until you think you’re going to die. Then you’re going to drive home feeling more alive than you have in years.

Bonebreaker Barbell is a great place to train hard and focus on getting as strong as possible. Mike’s training style is supportive and creative; he will work with you to push toward your goals. His story is inspiring and his energy is infectious. Even if you are new to training, he will inspire you to dig deeper, push further and train harder than you previously thought possible. He will teach you to use your strength to help others.

Been training at Bonebreaker since 2012, back when Mike ran it out of his garage. Love the atmosphere at this place! With the positive energy here I always have my absolute best workouts. Even though it’s a hardcore gym, it still has a friendly vibe, everyone here supports each other and treats each other like family. Great selection of old-school, heavy duty equipment to get you crazy strong. No 2lb pink weights at this place! If you’re serious about getting FIT and STRONG this is the place for you. If using your strength to make a positive difference in the world outside of the gym is important to you, this is probably the ONLY gym for you.

Brutal, awesome gym. Mike is one of the best trainers in the industry… he focuses on results AND giving you emotional strength, too. His equipment is top notch as well. Check out that killer deadlift platform.
