Big Shoes is an awesome store! My husband and I realized this was here when we first moved to Austin and he was SO. EXCITED. His happiness was the equivalent of me finding Big Top Candy Shop. Insane. Anyway, so we ventured down to the store one day, it’s kinda tucked away behind Chipotle, in search of some new shoes for my giant dude! He wears sizes 16 – 18 depending on the brand so he really never buys new shoes because he doesn’t like ordering online and having to return and stuff or he can’t even find his size in the first place! I was really happy to see that the prices were on par with regular shoe stores. It wasn’t like they were gouging big footed people which I think is nice. Also, the owners were there, and they were SUPER nice and helpful. Now my husband gets a new pair every couple of months because there are so many options! I love this store and I just wish they had a section for big footed women!!!

Be warned — I was a repeat customer here until I bought a pair of shoes that I really wanted from this company online but was sent the wrong shoe — similar name, quite different shoe. Their first response was to offer me to keep them with a small voucher(which wasn’t attractive since I think they’re ugly). I really wanted the shoes I’d paid for yet they stopped responding to emails so now I’m out of pocket and stuck with these shoes I won’t wear. Certainly no Zappos in service here. I wish they could have owned their mistake and actually got me the shoes I ordered.

Ooooooooh this place. As a man of stature(6’5″/340lbs), finding anything in my size has been as issue for most of my existence. Heck, part of the reason I was stoked about playing football in college was for all the free clothing and gear that was custom tailored. Alas, college days are over and into the real world I have tumbled, and it seems that every jackwagon in here is under 6 feet tall and rocks a size 10 shoe. Bottom line is, big guys do it better. And it is tough to find places that acknowledge and cater to that. I like in Kansas City and happened to be visiting Austin with my wife and some friends. We had been kicking around town for a couple of days and my dogs were a-barkin’…I had only made it down with flip flops since, in my haste to leave the house early in the AM I had forgotten to bring a pair of sneakers. My friends, being the nice people they are, said that while we were out promoting capitalism one day that we could look for some kicks for me. I laughed, honestly believing that Austin would be no different than the rest of America, only catering to the daintiest of feet. But I hopped on Unilocal and saw a place called Big Shoes. I thought, «I wonder of this is the place I have been buying from online for the last decade or so…» Sweet baby Jesus it was! I walked in and was greeting by one of the owners… a man that, judging by his height, knew my lifetime of pain as his own. He saw the look of wonderment on my face, as only being in a place that was just for me could summon. He was very nice and exceptionally helpful. He was even cool enough to show me the back area where the whole operation goes down. Very cool set up. Obviously I am a fan of this place, as I have been shopping here(online) for almost 10 years. But I had to give a shout out to a great place in the event that anyone who is in need of large footwear happens to be in the Austin area and is looking for a place that carries anything you could ever want. Keep it up ! You guys and gals are doing the Lord’s work…

I recently went in to find another pair of shoes, but instead I purchased some insoles. When I arrived home at the end of the day, I realized that I had the wrong size. I had to work the next day and wasn’t able to get to the store during their business hours. I contacted Rita, and she made a special arrangement for me that ended up working perfectly! Ask for Rita when you shop there. She has an anything-we-can-do-to-make-it-right approach to customer service. Highly recommended.

Like most guys who probably visit this store, I have never had much luck finding a store with a selection of shoes in my size(14EEEE) to choose from. Not only did Big Shoes have several makes and models of shoes to choose from, but they had lots of pairs in my size, including multiple colors of the Brooks Beast that I ended up going with. At the end of the day, their prices were totally in line with other shoe stores, the service was fine, and the selection of big shoes is unmatched in my experience. They even had lots of huge flip flops!

AWESOME. I wish I knew about this place a long time ago. I use to go shop for shoes and could only find 1 or 2 pair in the whole store that would fit me. No selection for me. Now I have a choice thanks to this place and I get to try them on without having to buy online. I will never buy shoes anywhere else again.

You know what they say about big feet… big feet… Big Shoes. They also say that if you are a size 13 or bigger, you probably shop on-line, are a bit frustrated, and seldom get your«big feet needs» met. The owner who I talked with here had VERY big feet and told me that they opened this store because they understand the lack of selection and what it is like to always have to shop on-line. Cool leather pointed shoes with a design tattooed on the top, everyday shoes, flip flops, sandals, boots, Doc Martens, Uggs, running shoes, tennis shoes, and of course basketball shoes… AND you get to try them all on. He said that, in his experience, most men with big feet are wearing the biggest, coolest shoes that they could find but their feet are still cramped. This can cause foot problems but –even worse — can cause back problems. Here are the conclusions that I draw after two visits…* 1. If your man has big feet, come here. Super wide counts as big… 2. If you are a person who likes MWBF(men with big feet) and all that entails, come here. You would be very thoughtful to purchase a gift card, even. Super tight and cramped usually satisfies no one… 3. More people would come here if Big Shoes had a MWBFHH(happy hour.) Such a HH would make a LOT of men and women happy for more than an hour… 4. Prices seem totally reasonable for so much rubber/leather… 5. There is a lot of pressure on big men with big feet between the size of 13 and 22 and a lot of assumptions made. If I had a size 22 foot I would really appreciate that I could go to a place where people simply understood my dilemma about size and comfort and fit and style and also understood that when people put so much emphasis on my enormity, they miss out on me… *all 5 conclusions need to be put to the Chinese fortune cookie test, especially #5.

I’m kinda a big guy. Not huge, I only shop at the big n’ tall for a few items, but big. I wear a size 16/15EEEE shoe, and have worn that size since junior high. Buying shoes has been a thorn in my side for a long time. At least until I found Big Shoes. I ordered my first pair online, and when it arrived via ground shipping within a day, I had to find out where they came from. Boom, outa here. A big shoe store in my own backyard. Awesome! One of the owners is a big guy too. I mean really tall. And I hear a lot of local sports celebs a customers as well. Needless to say, I don’t order online anymore. Going in the store makes me feel like a cast member on the hills who just maxed out daddy’s credit cards at Salvatore Ferragamo.
