There couldn’t have been more than 30 customers in there today, and it took forever to get the food. Tamal was freezer-burned, we had to ask for every chip, refill and(my favorite) for napkins and utensils, the enchiladas and tacos were uninspired and the waitress and other help are woefully untrained. Rampant stupidity all around. Plus the place looks and smells dirty. So many structures in the 5400 – 5700 block of North IH-35 are being torn down, and we can only hope Baby Acapulco’s is next.

Very bad service experience. Kept getting the order wrong. Ordered Fajita nachos with jalapeños and sour cream in the side. She brought chips with fajita on top of the chips and the extras on another plate. There was No Cheese or beans! She then said you wanted everything on the side, yet she didn’t even bring cheese or beans on the side? Then the manager tried to back up the waitress but then realized she didn’t bring us nachos as all but some chips with pieces of fajita on top. Then he tries to be funny when we asked for utensils, our waitress didn’t bring us any, he said its Mexican food and eat with your hands… it’s hard to eat soup with your hands.

Hadn’t been here in 10 years so I had to visit again. The place looked rundown inside and out. You could tell there has been no maintenance or upgrades done in that entire out. So needless to say I was second guessing my decision BUT then I got my food. The stuffed avocado was to die for!!! The service was great too. Maybe I will order to go next time. They would do great to rennovate the place since it’s right on I35 with lots of business. Classic example to not judge a book by its cover.

This location has gone downhill over the past 5 years or so. The disgusting event that happened today was the final straw. My friends and I will never go here again. 3 friends and I visited at 3pm today. It was not busy. We ordered queso and drinks. 30 minutes after ordering that, the drinks arrived. My friend ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri, like she orders everywhere. She took a sip and said it tasted weird. All 3 of the rest of us tasted it and agreed. It tasted off, not like a Strawberry Daiquiri. Maybe the Daiquiri mix was bad or whatever, so she took it up to the bar, informed them and asked for a Blue Margarita instead. The manager STUCK A STRAWINTHEDRINK, TOOK A SIPANDSAID«TASTESFINETOME». Who the f**k does that!!! Another 20 minutes and the queso came out then another 20(a total of an hour) for our meals to come out. I’m sorry, but it shouldn’t take 30 minutes to get drinks, 50 minutes to get an appetizer of queso and never, ever should anyone take a sip out of your drink and tell you«Tastes fine to me». That is so disgusting and it probably costs them $ 1 to make. If a customer says it doesn’t taste right, make another drink. The one positive about our visit was our waitress, Caroline(not sure on the spelling of her name). She was very apologetic for the wait time and the f**ked up service today. She seemed to be trying her best to make up for the lack of incompetent service that everyone else was providing today. If you ever return a drink at this location, know that management apparently likes to take a sip or two. Yuck.

I’ve been here a few times. I like the food, the service can be hit or miss and they make the drinks strong. I really enjoy the food, everything I’ve had so far has been good!

I had always heard austinites rave about baby acapulco’s drinks and food, but to tell you the truth I was not impressed I had the fajita combo plate I was expecting something special but was unimpressed I’ve had much better at less known places for half the price. Something must have happened because security sprayed pepper spray and me and my daughter coughed all through dinner, my server was very pregnant and kept on rubbing her belly which I thought was very inappropriate(don’t get me wrong I have nothing against pregnancy I just didn’t like that) I don’t think I will return to this location.

Never again. This place is terrible. Starting with the service. From rude hosting, to sitting at a dirty table, to the bus boy rushing us out of the table. I will never spend my money here again, not even if the drinks are supposed to be strong.

The service for this place is horrible!!! There’s was no one in the restaurant and was told it was going to be a five to ten minute wait that turns out to be a 20 minute wait. The so called hostess acted like she didn’t want to do her job. No smile or anything. We are going to the Howard location where it’s less ghetto. It’s like this EVERYTIME we come to this location.

Okay I think people are being a bit harsh on this location. I live really close, and this is my neighborhood Baby A’s. THe building is a little dark, and old, but the staff is typically very attentive and nice. Maria is the little mexican lady who speaks very little English and she is the sweetest, cutest and the reason I like coming to this location. The food is consistently good as well. I definitely recommend coming to check this location out. And of course the Purple ritas… 2 drink limit for a reasons baby! You will be set! :P

I’d been living in Austin for 11 years and then I moved to Houston but every time I come back into town I stop here because I know that the drinks and food are going to be awesome. I would not advise coming during happy hour because it gets very busy but we came for lunch and I had the chimichanga and a strawberry margarita. Raymond was very helpful and fun. The actual restaurant could use a facelift but I don’t think that’s a priority for them.

My friends and I went here while in town for a convention as a recommendation from our hotel. Our waiter was David and he was very funny and accommodating! He seems to enjoy his job and have fun with it, which I appreciate as a fellow server. The food was great, we left so full from eating too much! There’s a lot of bad reviews but we went regardless because we were looking for good Mexican food since it’s our first time in Texas and it’s difficult to get good Mexican where we are from. We were not disappointed! We had a lot of fun and enjoyed our experience!

I am the biggest fan of Baby A’s tortilla soup. I have yet to find its rival in Austin. A tasty broth with plenty of tortilla strips and large chunks of chicken, with cilantro, cheese & rice on the side to be added to the mix. Add the bottomless tortilla chips and the salsa(with its own bite), and you have one tasty & satisfying meal!

Food is good, but the place needs a major overhaul! It was hard to focus because the booth had a big hole in it. Restroom was super dirty and the floors are dirty.

I can’t say how the food taste because I left before they could take my order. The chips were store bought, and the salsa was pace sauce. Service was bad. Employees don’t look happy at all.

The food is generally good and chicken tortilla soup is great. However, I recommend skipping this particular location. It’s dirty and *super* ghetto. Once during a rain storm, water came dripping through the ceiling, right next to our booth. We’ve had a few decent waiters/waitresses, but overall service is pretty lousy. Last Friday, I finally hit my limit. I love Baby A’s and this one is close to us, but I think we’re going to just have to make the drive to Barton Springs from now on.

Went for a quick dinner near closing time tonight. Chips and Salsa came quickly, however, the chips must have been from the bottom of the barrell. They looked crushed, literally the smallest pieces that I have ever experienced and I have eaten at alot of mexican restaruants. The waitress corrected the issue quickly. The meal order took forever to get out which is strange when there was three enchilada’s and two on another plate ordered. Consumed a large queso, a bowl of guachamole ranch, and the salsa before it came. When the order came, one of the two dinners was topped wrong. Waitress fixed it immediately. I don’t know but I am guessing that they scraped off the original and flooded it with the queso that it was suppose to have. It was my guests meal so I don’t know how good it actually tasted. The Waitress brought more salsa after the meal plates. Unfortunately, when she brought the salsa, she had two drinks on the same tray for another table. She lost one that was a multi-color semi-frozen drink with green and red in it that slid off the tray and hit the tables edge. Unfortunately, it coated the front and side of my guest from face to foot. Broken glass on the table and underneath. What a mess!!! We got up to move to another booth. When I slide out of the booth, even my side had drink and glass which got my behind wet. The manager, Kerry Clinton, came over and said he would take care of it. That was the end of the service. As we were departing, the waitress said are you leaving. We said yes, and she ran for the bill which was $ 20. We told her the manager said he would take care of it. Obviously, he hadn’t said anything to her so she went and asked him. He came out and said he would remove just one plate. I said for real. His reply was for real. I refuted it, and he said he would comp the other plate but drink(I had a water) and the apetizer was to be paid. I told him that I am a frequent guest and that this was unacceptable. I replayed the experience we just had. He was still insisting on paying. I told him that he was making a huge mistake. Those seated around this discussion chimed in and said that I was correct. He finally caved in under pressure from other patrons and said he would comp all of it. Manager should have been offering that free meal, offering to replace stained clothing, appologizing, and inviting us to come back on him. This ranks as the worst dining out experience that I have had from a service perspective thus far. I am a Baby A’s fan and the food was actually good tonight given despite the service, however, this manager needs to be fired and replaced quickly. The staff needs pumping up, trained, and formed into a functioning team. If you go to this location, then beware of the service. Other locations are great food and service!

Generic tex-mex in a restaurant that desperately needs some updating and deep cleaning. Our waitress was nice, the food was really fast and cheap, and the drinks are strong. Nothing fantastic about Baby A’s.

My husband summed it up pretty well, «Baby Acapulco, it’s whatever food.» Come expecting to feel a little grungy during your dining experience. There are about 5 coats of paint peeling off random places inside, the seat cushions are all torn, and you have to check the toilet seat before you go in a stall. That being said, Baby Acapulco has its place. When you want some quick greasy Tex-mex and alcohol without spending much money you will find yourself here. The last time I was here I ordered a salmon salad. What I was served was a salmon fillet with a side of black beans and a hand full of lettuce with some tomatoes off to the side. I didn’t complain though because I just wanted food and it was close enough. My husband ordered seafood enchiladas and they were kind of overly fishy but they weren’t awful or anything so he just ate them because he was hungry. This is the kind of mood you need to be in when you come here. My mom was with us that night and it was her first time there so she didn’t understand that she kind of needed to just accept what she was served. She ordered a Manhattan on the rocks and I knew that was a bad idea at a place that mainly serves beer-garitas and purple drink but I didn’t stop her. What they brought out was not a Manhattan. I think it was like warm whiskey with warm coke in a martini glass or something. She asked for ice and the 18 year old waiter was very nice and quickly brought back a big plastic soda cup full of ice. We all kind of stared at the martini glass and the big plastic cup when he brought it. He realized the dilemma. «Oh, I’ll bring a straw!» he said to which my mom quickly replied«We don’t drink whiskey out of a straw.» The waiter seemed sad about that, probably thinking he wouldn’t be getting a tip, but we came to Baby A’s just wanting to get full and buzzed. The waiter made this happen so of course he got a tip.
