Legit Mexican food! Not Tex-Mex, authentic Mexican food. The salsa is addictive. Service is attentive and you absolutely cannot beat their lunch prices. I had the #1 which was 1-beef enchilada and 1-cheese enchilada with rice and beans. $ 6. That’s right, I didn’t stutter…12 different lunch plates to choose from for $ 6. The have a very extensive menu full of Mexican specialties. Think chiles rellenos and albondegas.

I actually walked out of another restaurant across the way my friend was trying to take me to, they seemed to have some staffing issues and it looked like everyone was waiting around waiting. So I said, let’s go to Azul Tequila. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! The staff was attentive, they have a wonderful female who goes around just refilling your water, and the food was so so so tasty! Definitely some of the tastiest food I’ve had in Austin. We started with the pepper and tuna appetizer which was delicious! Then each got our own entrees which were equally as delicious and tasty, slightly spicy but not too much, just the right amount, wonderfully spiced to have great flavor with a little kick. Don’t let this little strip mall joint fool you! Their food is delicious and the service is fabulous! I can’t wait to go back!

So, I’ve been to this place twice now, and I am impressed. I’ve lived in this area for almost 10 years, but for some reason never considered going to a restaurant in a strip mall until a friend said it was really good. So, we went the night before Christmas Eve and again tonight, and while the experiences were different, they were both really good. The first time I was there, it was pretty slow, so had a nice, relaxed dinner and drinks. The food was really good, and our waitress was a sweetheart – so genuinely caring and thoughtful. We had the same waitress tonight, and it was like seeing an old friend. The place was absolutely packed, and when the mariachi band showed up, I was afraid my conversation with my friend would be drowned out, but it was actually okay and kind of nice(though my mind went immediately to John Mulaney’s bit about the mariachi band on the subway…). Again, the food was delicious, and the drinks were great. I’m wondering why I spent so many years traveling to other parts of Austin for Mexican food when there was this amazing place right in my back yard. Oh, and if you are a tequila fan(as I am), this is the place to go.

Stopped by for a margarita with a few friends. Service was terrible. Went to the bar for clarification about a friends drink order and was shocked at how rude the bartender was. She was curt, short and bitchy. Not to mention the horrific smell of sewage when I entered. Good customer service may have over shadowed some of this. I was embarassed to have even suggested this place to my friends. Iwill NEVER come back, again.

Incredible food the quesadillas and the fajitas are fantastic. The definite highlight among the other friendly staff is Jess. She always remembers what anyone has ordered previously and is always friendly and she always stays on top of drink refills. Great job.

Great Mexican food, wonderful drinks. and in the weirdest little spot next to the Target off Ben White. Service is a hit and miss, but the margaritas, queso and the food is divine and worth the gamble. One of our favorite places to eat in South Austin, by far. Also, the mariachi band is great on the weekends, very lovely and the kids love to watch them perform! The place is small but packs a big punch!

I’ve eaten here several times and I totally agree — this place is a hidden gem! Authentic Mexican food at its best, great Margaritas, Chips and Salsa, great seafood as well, and everyone is happy. The last time I had the Pescado Zapoteco and it was finger licking good. I highly recommend this place.

I absolutely love this place! I probably eat here at least once a week if not more. I discovered it because it was right by my old apartment but now I travel across town for it. Their margaritas a like candy — hands down the best margarita I’ve ever had! Their salsa is spicy and I recently have became obsessed with their queso compesto. I usually stick the same few dishes, but I’ve never had a bad experience here. I recommend this place to everyone and even turned my die-hard Chuy’s fan co-worker onto Azul! They have mariachi music on Friday nights and the service is typically friendly! Love it!

A little hard to find. I had to comb three adjacent malls before I found it. Ordered albondigas, which was on the entrée section of the menu, not the soup section, but which proved to be soup with only four fairly large meatballs in it. But they were good meatballs, with a little rice in the middle. My companion had enchiladas with pipian sauce. Didn’t taste much like the pumpkin seeds it was supposedly made of, but good.

This place is in a «side» strip mall, totally hidden. They have the best margaritas, made from scratch, no mixes here. The food is fabulous and while not the typical LA Mexican hole in the wall that I love and crave, there is no «tex~mex» on the menu. This has become our go~to Mexican spot when we’re craving real Mexican food. The black beans are especially delicious although I did not care for the pinto.

A hidden gem in a strip mall. This place is amazing, some of the best and most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had. I’ll recommend this place to everyone no matter what they’re craving. I don’t remember what I got exactly but I know it had Barbacoa. My girlfriend got a shrimp dish that was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Shrimp are usually pretty mild and boring but they did a great job with the seasoning to make it a memorable dish. For appetizers we got chorizo tostadas, they were amazing and well put together. They were surprisingly not messy and easy to eat for a tostada. We also got a bowl of queso with chorizo in it with tortillas on the side, it was another great side. I’d definitely suggest the the queso, it’s simple but so good. In all it was a great meal. I’d go here again and again.

This place is by our favorite stop after we shop. Right down the road from the mall, we pull in and enjoy our well deserved margaritas. The drinks are a bit pricy but worth every penny! We always end up here for happy hour, which works in my favor because we order Sopes. The Sopes here are heavenly. Angelic little tortilla puffs loaded with tinga or chicken. And the sauce? Oh the sauce. That delicious green avocado sauce. I could drink that sauce by the gallon. The service here is always amazing and they know the menu well. We will continue to come back for more.

This place has really shown me how much I like Mexican food over the traditional Tex-Mex. We have had the Albondigas en Chipotle(4 big meatballs in a rather watery soup), Pollo Huasteco(SPICED chicken without being SPICY), and the Pescado Veracruzano(fish with a red sweet and tangy sauce over fried plantain). Each time, I’ve killed the entire dish, rice and beans and all. Sure I felt like an overpuffed blowfish when I was done because it’s wayyyy too much food for me, but it was so good at the time. To increase round-ness, add on an order of sopapillas for the ride home — fried dough covered in honey, powdered sugar, and cinnamon. I’m definitely going to skip the jumbo margaritas, local and Mexican beers in order to save room for the NOMs next time.

Just a note to say thanks. We had a small birthday gathering today(6−28−15). Our server was the best. She took care of us eight along with her customers at the bar. If the food was as good as her service it would have been a FIVE Star visit. I recommend a meal at this restaurant. Money well spent. Thanks again for the great service.

Azul Tequila is more what I would call interior Mexican as opposed to your traditional tex-mex that we have every where in Austin. Interior Mexican is a little more hard to get I think. This restaurant is located in a old shopping center off South Lamar and 71 and it kind of blends in. Nothing special really, but then you walk inside and you might be a little surprised like me. It is definitely spruced up a bit on the inside. I actually took a friend here for dinner. I ordered the mole enchiladas and she had the taco salad. The mole was rich and delicious! My friend said that her taco salad was great too. It came in a huge taco shell bowl with combination chicken and beef on it. We interacted with several of the staff and they were all wonderful as well. Our waiter never let our drinks get low as well! The menu here is pretty big, but if you are looking for good interior Mexican food this is definitely a place worth checking out!

Nice little secret Mexican spot. Decent happy hour, good drinks and great soup! My favorite dish is an entrée but is an awesome Mexican meatball soup. You can add in garnishes like cilantro and onions to appeal to your preferences. There soup is now what I ask for when I’m feeling under the weather.

I’ve past this place a few times on my travels but it wasn’t until very recently I decided to try it. For some reason I’m weary of places in shopping plaza’s, I’ve had too many bad experiences. This was not one of those. I’ve ordered take out once which was nice because while I waited they got me some water and chips and salsa. I’ve also brought quite a few friends here because it’s close to my home and a quick bike ride at that. There lunch specials running from 11 – 3 Monday through Friday are only $ 6 and you get very decent portions. I tend to order the crispy tacos with black refried beans. The first time I got them they must have sat in the window too long because they were pretty soggy. Since then I’ve ordered them again but told the server my concerns and they’ve come out perfect ever since. I’ve been a server, sometimes shit happens. They also have a killer happy hour which includes their«heavy» blue margarita that you can only get two of while there. I’ve had this a few times hungover and it really did the trick. Once you taste it you realize why you can only have two, if you get it frozen it won’t be long till it turns to on the rocks because of all the tequila. They’ve also got spinach or mushroom(or one of each) enchiladas that any vegetarian would love. I come hear with a friend who won’t get anything else besides her staple michelada. The ambiance is nice and dark and the servers are friendly. I’ll definitely be coming back again.

Pros: –Excellent interior Mexican food –Great drinks –Good prices –The best cabrito in town! Cons: –Waitstaff have not attend finishing school. In other words, we’ve twice ordered an app and it twice came out AFTER our entrée. Fuggetaboutit! –You feel as if you’re eating in a strip mall –There is a crazy loud mariachi band every Friday night. They are not bad, but you should know ahead of time. This could presumably be a pro for some people.

I like Azul Tequila. It’s near my apartment, it’s near a pretty good nail place, they have tequila. All good things. However, I think their drinks are a little overpriced and I’ve had some really lackluster service there. I’ve had great experiences the two times I’ve stopped in for appetizers and a few drinks, but the two times I’ve gone for dinner with friends, we’ve had our food come out wrong or, in one case, a plate entirely forgotten. When that happened, they brought it out as everyone else was finishing and didn’t offer any sort of comp/free dessert/grovelling apology. Overall, they’re inconsistent, but not a bad place for drinks. I also really enjoy their mariachi band. Side note — they don’t split checks.

Don’t blink! Yes, you’ve just missed this delicious gem that’s hidden in the Target shopping center strip. Go back… go back… I was desperate to have a quick meal one day before I entered the gates of Target, as I might not have enough stamina to make it from clothing to kitchen items and everything in between. So I quickly sussed out all of my options in the strip mall and decided to give this place a try. It doesn’t look like much on the outside and the inside is pretty generic, but don’t be fooled… it is amazing. I don’t know what they do to their tortilla chips, but they are the best chips I’ve had in Austin!(Big words, I know.) I typically get their beef fajitas or beef fajita tacos, but it looks like they have a pretty good selection if I ever decide to put down the chips and venture out to new items. They are exceptionally fast at lunch time, no matter how busy they get, and the wait staff is very friendly and helpful. I know it’s easy to be tempted by the more popular spots, but trust me, this will quickly become your new favorite!
