Service was good– beer is OK. Chicken tenders were absolutely horrible. soggy and no flavor.

Food must have been out of the freezer. My fish was mostly crust, I guess that’s how they save money. The service was horrible. I found the woman serving us rude. Would I go here again? Never. Pretty bad for a fish town like Maine. I’m from California and the bars are much better. My son is a chef and has worked in bars and restaurants. This place could be a really good place with training to the staff and better food.

Phenomenal fish and chips. Great Brown Ale brew service fantastic and quick. Best fish and chips I have ever had. From the Midwest so not used to fresh fish like Maine. Will be back.

Simple, tasty food. Scallops were very fresh and not over cooked. The Brown Ale was meh but the IPA tasted just like it should.

Blechh. Even the beer wasn’t good. The food was horrible, but the service was good(hey, she was nice and trying hard), even if our server wasn’t completely helpful guiding us in the right direction. Never go here again!

Moderately busy on a Sunday night. The bartender decided that, although it was 50 and raining out, that it should be even colder in the bar. We watched as 2 customers complained, and a guy came behind the bar who looked like the manager told her it was too cold. We actually went outside to warm up!!! We would have stayed all night, but had to leave, just like several other customers… ridiculous!

Nice view from the deck. Inside was overly dark. Food was so so.(Had lobster roll with onion rings) onion rings were overly battered and jumbo lobster roll was not jumbo. Also the evening when I went it wasn’t overly busy and the service was slow and not attentive.(I sat at the bar)

Their beer is great, and their lamb burgers are to die for, but lobstah rolls… seriously not good. The customer service is always great but it’s never good to only have one dish to choose from.

We tried to eat at Gritty’s tonight. After 20 minutes of sitting at our table without someone coming to take our order, we asked the hostess for help. She said she would send someone over. We waited 5 more minutes and then left.

Great place. This will definitely become a regular spot for us. Casual atmosphere, great beer, and great food. The haddock reuben was out-of-this-world good!!! They even had a pint-size cocktail special, which would normally be much more expensive anywhere else. Excited to go back soon!

Nothing blew my socks off, but this place served a good meal. The pub style ale was fresh, the pretzels were good(though saaaaaalty) and the shepherd’s pie was delicious. The best asset might be the location — an easy walk from the hotel. Try it out!

Good local spot. Only serves their own beer, kids eat free on Tuesdays if you’re into that. Went here for St. Patrick’s day and lots of locals — atmosphere was great. Food was decent and prepared well. Pub style food with great servers. Beer is better than their food which shows they have their priorities in the right place.

Been here several times. Great wait staff that’s more beer knowledgable than most brew pubs. Very attentive and genuinely nice. Food is very good especially for a front line brew pub. Beer is very good. Not an overwhelming beer list either. All the essentials on tap. Scottish. IPAs. Stout. Brown Ale. Cask beers. Etc. None of the beers you don’t want either. Great brew pub!

This is as close as it gets to a true neighborhood bar where everyone gathers. Gritty’s serves great microbrews in a casual atmosphere that feels a little bit collet than you’d expect to find in Auburn, Maine. This is a great spot to watch the game, meet friends, host a little celebration, get together after work, or just enjoy a beer. The deck is very pleasant in good weather and overlooks the river and some surprisingly nice scenery. We’ve also taken our kids here quite a few times with no problems. Comfortable place!

Just finishing up here now. The female bartender was rude, forgetful, and drinking wine with another waitress on duty. Incredibly full of herself. Beer was«meh». Forgot my water, never asked how my food was, nothing. Perhaps she would be better off working in the kitchen.

It’s like stepping into the Old Port but in Auburn. Awesome micro-brew, decent menu, outside on the river in the summer — what’s not to like? Also good for entertaining out of town business guests for a lunch or dinner — this is a good change of pace to the others across the river — Fuel, Fishbones, DaVinci’s.

It wasn’t busy when we came in. We seated ourselves in the first room, at a table by the bar. After 15 – 20 minutes, no one had greeted us, let alone offer a menu or drinks. Again, I must stress, it was not busy. We were within arm’s length of the bar and employees couldn’t be bothered to make eye contact or smile. We left, and will not return.

I went just before the Balloon Festival began. The service was A-OK and same for the food. The beer was good and the drink menu was interesting. I would go back and it was packed so seems like lots of people like it.

There are a handful of meet-up places that I use to connect with friends/colleagues over a beer. These usually are for the purposes of being social, reconnecting, and most often, at least for me, usually don’t involve food. They are also not my favorite spots, but tend to be places that are easier to suggest than some lesser known, or harder to find locales. I For that reason, I’ll give Gritty’s three stars. The beer is good, and I’d give the Portland Old Port location on star higher mainly because it’s Portland, not Auburn; if that offends you, then so be it. Auburn isn’t downtown Portland. The patio in Auburn is pretty good. The service was slow and disinterested on the Friday I was there(yesterday), which also contributes to the lower rating.

Black Fly stout is my favorite. The food’s quite good, especially the Mediterranean Lamb Burger and the Mexicali; I’ve always enjoyed a good lamb burger. I appreciate that you can get away from the TVs — the back room has tons of seating, and fewer distractions than the bar area. Definitely a regular stop on my jaunts through L-A.
