This was the source of wings I ordered from . ‘Twas a rainy night, I was tired and hungry, and bad-for-me food sounded good. The delivery driver was late, and then insisted that I come downstairs, in the rain, to get my food, so that he could keep an eye on his car to avoid getting a ticket.(Mind you, this was in the pre-Park Atlanta days.) All that, and my wings were lukewarm and greasy, like a porn actress after a bad day. Ick. Never again.

Review note: This review is based only on their delivery service. I have never seen the interior of this restaurant and I hope I never have to either. — — — — — — — — — — I got home late last night in a pretty bad mood. Fortunately, I had Top Chef to look forward to. Unfortunately, I had nothing in the fridge! Though there are several solid options for Asian delivery, I had sushi on Tuesday. That left me fumbling through my menu stack and finally turning to the World Wide Web for a suggestion. I decided early on I wanted wings and settled on Wawa after finding a site that gave it 3 ½ out of 5 starts(based on 17 reviews). Though I am always very apprehensive when it comes to delivered wings — I took a chance. Well, this is what I got for trying something new: I ordered a wing basket(10 wings + wedge fries /$ 8.99) and a 20 oz sprite($ 1.69) plus one extra thing of ranch($.79). Why does a place like this nickel and dime their customers? I have no clue — it might be that they are trying to maximize each sale… I don’t think they get a lot of repeat business. In addition, I noticed a pre-tax surcharge of $ 1.99. Again, this is nothing out of the ordinary for such an establishment, but something to take note of nonetheless. The order was placed at 9:50 but they did not show up until well past 11:00. I live about 2 miles from this place — so that kind of irked me. I know it’s good for them to be able to knock out all their customers at one time, but seriously — there should be limits. However, the delivery driver showed up with a huge smile and a charming affect. In fact, he might have been the nicest delivery person I have ever met. He handed me a large bag, spun and sauntered down the hall. I put my food down, washed my hands and got some … no… I got A LOT of extra paper towel. When I eat wings — I always end up looking something like this: . In any event, I plopped myself down on the couch and dug in. From here on out everything was a total disaster. I’m fairly lenient with my standards for delivered food — but even that has its’ limits. The wings were fairly large in size… but I ordered them extra hot and extra crispy. They failed on both fronts. On site, I expect extra crispy to be just that. When delivered, I’ll settle for something with a mild crunch. These were soggy. To top it off, the sauce tasted like sugar injected Tabasco; whereby, the cook had taken the liberty of removing all traces of spice. The fries were even worse. They were definitely wedge fries… and looked like they had been soaked in a bucket of water before getting sent out. Again, I don’t ask for much — but these were just too soggy. Wawa uses a package ranch — I think it was Ken’s but I honestly don’t remember. The containers were pretty darn small — and given the $.79 surcharge, I expected more. Given Wawa’s other shortcomings, I was not really concerned with the ranch. So after eating a handful of wings, I decided to pop the Sprite. I looked in the bag and found it E-M-P-T-Y!!! I know this chaps some people — but I actually think it’s a forgivable offense(if you want an unforgivable offense — go look at my review of No-Star Pizza — aka All-Star). I am sympathetic to f*ups; what I expect in return is responsive service. I finished my dinner and called WaWa. The guy picked up the phone, asked me to hold, and there I sat for 2m45s. I was pretty sure they had forgotten me — so I hung up and tried again. Same thing — only this time — I sat for 4+ minutes. Okay, third time is a charm? Not for me! I tried a third time, and sat another 3 minutes before giving up. Instead, I contacted the site I had ordered through and they emailed me back saying they had refunded the charge. I did not expect or want Wawa to run another drink out to me — but there is no way in hell that this place was so busy I needed to spend anywhere close to 3 minutes, let alone 10 minutes, on hold. With all the other mediocre wing delivery spots in town — I do not see much of a reason to return. The drink incident aside, the food is blah, but par for the course. It’s pretty reasonable — so that’s a plus.
