Great place with awesome live blues music. I was in Atlanta on some business and ate at a restaurant near by and Unilocaled a few bars close by.
This place is a gem and I wished I would have found it earlier in the week but I will most definitely be returning whenever possible.
It’s dark and loud and most of the live music doesn’t get started until 930 is what I understand. This particular night the band got cranking at 1015 which patrons thought was a bonus.
These people love to dance! Once that music starts there no room in front of the band because Of all the dancing.
I didn’t get to say thanks to my people that made the night so awesome though.

I came for the first time and at a certain time the owner decided that She would not serve me and my friend anymore because of her choice, it was ridiculous because me and my friend were sharing beers so maybe because we were foreigners she thought we were not capable of drinking a few beers… We were traveling by Über and I am just disgusted by the service… Never again!!! And I believe it’s racist!!! Wow, spectacular night! Not!!! How can you go to a place where you are just treated and even told that no more!!! Wow!!!

If you like danky divey bluesy bars filled with cheap beer and Wild Turkey — this place is for you.
But, if you need a place that doesn’t have a bathroom with wet floors, you might want to go somewhere else.

I’ve been a million bars and this is by far the best one. Always a great time. Very gritty. I’m not the type that appreciates fancy decorations or arrogant people, so if you’re into Buckhead then maybe this isn’t right for you. But this is a quintessential dive bar with excellent music every night of the week. It’s popping and fun pretty much every night except for Sundays and Tuesdays, though the music is still good on those nights. The people there are really chill and fun to hang with, and it’s an excellent place to dance. I love this place!

This is a great place for live blues music. If you’re into a little impromptu dancing, not only expect to see me there but you also need to make room for all of us fantastic dancers who want to enjoy ourselves.
With that said, the dance floor space is lacking and often times it’s hard to dance when the above average drunkards start meddling in the space. (So, what I’m suggesting is that Northside Tavern remove those front tables to allow a little bit more dance real estate)
It is a divey bar and the bathroom situation is a little dodgy but allowances have to be made for awesome music and super fantastic bartenders.

Northside tavern is great (if you like dive bars). The blue there is awesome, the drinks are reasonable and the people watching is epic. It’s the perfect place to walk over to after JCT or one of the other many restaurants in the area.
So why the 3 stars? It can all be summed up with one interaction. When buying my second round of drinks — 2 beers — with my debit card, I was curtly told by the bar tender to get cash out if I wanted another drink. I told him «it’s a debit card, not my fault you’re choosing to run it as credit and pay a fee.» Don’t think he liked that too much, but I don’t really care.
In defense — we had already paid a $ 10 cover to get in and tipped the band. And I was with a group of 8 people. I think we gave them enough money for him to get over the 2.5% they have to pay on my $ 5.50 beers. Shoot they got $ 80 before we even walked in the door!

Music was great. The place is definitely a dive bar, but drinks were outrageously priced –$ 10 for a beer? And my friend paid $ 15 for a mixed drink (which was very watery and did not taste right). WTF. Arrived around ten… Which is when the band started up… enjoyed the music, but the bar doesn’t start to fill up until around midnight. Better atmosphere with a larger crowd. Liked the music, but the overpriced drinks might keep me away…

It’s the very definition of a dive bar, so it’s awesome if that’s your thing. The live music gives the place a chill, fun vibe, and everyone seems to know each other. Cheap drinks, can’t complain.

LOOVE LOVE LOVE this dive bar! Music is always rockin. Don’t go if you don’t like small places because this place is small and stays packed out. Crowd is a good looking group and drinks are stout. Beware the ladies room — as soon as you open the door you’ll come face to face with a chic on the potty right out in the open!

The rating depends how much you like blues and how much you tolerate cigarettes. The blues is nice but when you walk in the smoke blasts you. I won’t go back but if it doesn’t bother you, you might give it 5 stars!

Yeah buddy… this is the place to get druuuunkkk. You wont find a stronger drink poured in the city, I dare you to try. This place is divey, dark, little dirty, and just plain awesome.
I also heard that they place live music nightly. I would not know considering I always stumble my way out of here way too early. I am going to get back here and check out the night time scene soon. If its anything like I here then this place is probably going to end up with a big 5 stars!

They play blues much every night!!! Band sounds great! Here on a Sunday night… Not super busy at all which is nice. You can totally smoke in the bar. The prices on there drinks are super reasonable as well! Was a total dive so if that’s your thing this is your place. I was staying in Buckhead and the drive to and from was fairly easy and a straight shot! Not to sure if I would return back and I love dice bars. Just wasn’t feeling this one. Would maybe go back on a Friday or Saturday night.

This smokey hole in the wall is a great place for blues and jazz bands to hide away and play til all hours of the night and into the morning! I had seen many a time Zydefunk play here with some other guest musicians in the house…
It’s a pretty small place, but it’s certainly worth driving through the sketchy neighborhoods to go here when a good band is on the schedule.
There is a pool table or 2 although they aren’t the best kept… you’re not there to really play pool anyway!
Although I’ve never tried the food (and don’t think I’d dare to) and try to avoid the restroom, although sometimes you just can’t help it…
The place is known for some very old school and famous blues folks that have played there and seems like it will remain the famous dive bar that it is and will continue to draw any walk of life because it’s such a cool place (until it falls to the ground)!
