I relocated from Chicago and did some research on where to go that would be comparable in talent and skill for a quality hairstyle. Steve Hightower Hair Salon showed up and I decided to try it. My first experience wasn’t terrible, the haircut and color was fairly decent, not the quality I was used to receiving in Chicago, but livable. This review regards my second visit. Steve recommended a blue/black color that I had done before which I was comfortable with… the colorist stained the entire rim of my face, leaving me to attend a meeting looking interesting… to say the least. Additionally, it has been three weeks since the visit and my hair is STILL staining my pillow cases. Once the colorist passed me on to Steve, I felt that I was his least priority as he didn’t listen to a single thing I asked for. Rather, it was a half hour of him expounding on all the celebrities he knows and charities he goes to… tacky. I would try to get a word in edge wise regarding my hair and before I could say anything he cut it. It is the single worst haircut I have had since my mom used to take us to Regis in the mall. I kept asking about the neck hair as he cut it shorter than my hairline, he said it was fine(because he couldn’t be bothered with me). I got home and realized there were a handful of fine neck hairs that were still at the length my hair used to be trailing behind this mullet helmet he gave me! The short«bob» I received but didn’t want(I had asked for a LOB with beachy waves) has a 1980’s shelf built in where his unblended layer resides. Further, no matter how I style it, every size curling iron, every flat iron, every possible spray leaves me with flipped out wings making me look like an absolute moron. I told him it was not what I wanted and he could have cared less. He asked me what I did want… well, too late now! I went to the front desk holding in my tears and humiliation and the front desk receptionist was just as rude. She stood staring at me and the three bottles of product I purchased and then huffed, I suppose you want a bag. I don’t know who these people are, but their egos certainly don’t match their skill sets. A salon experience should make you feel beautiful, listening and consulting with what you are trying to achieve. Instead, I got a haircut that I didn’t want, is poor quality, and wasted time listening to an obnoxious egomaniac. Good night Irene.

I have been searching my whole life for the perfect blonde hair, and Conor gives that to me every time I come in. He’s seriously the greatest for cut and color. Go see Conor!

Terrible highlights. I am so not a fan of the«Striped» look and nothing is blending with my natural color. I was looking for a new stylist since mine moved 4 hours away but I don’t think I found a new home here which is sad since there was so much potential. I ultimately had to come home and fix my hair using a toner my mom recommended(she’s a previous hair stylist) which I shouldn’t have to do after a $ 225 price tag. I have horrible photos of the hair if anyone including the salon need to see. The search continues for a salon who can highlight dark hair without making me look like a skunk…

Not only are they great at their jobs, they also are very involved with their community and give back to those in need. Amazing hearts on everyone there! My go to place for all my beauty needs.

Milissa was marvelous! This review is a bit belated, but after 3 months I’m still happy with the results! She colored my hair in a «mocha» glaze all over to enhance my natural brunette color. After a short debate about bangs, we ended up going for a «fringe» similar to Kate Middleton’s(the Duchess of Cambridge is my style icon). She did a great job keeping the length of my hair and only trimming off about a ½ inch for dead ends. I’d highly recommend her!

Having switched to this salon last year was the best decision ever! Steve and his team offer superb service, which rivals any other high end salon in Atlanta. Javier is my stylist, and could not ask for better person to care for my hair. The salon specializes in thinning hair, and provides individualized attention to each client based on their haircare needs and goals. Prior to any service, Javier takes time to listen to what I’m looking for, and affords his clients his professional opinion as well.

I am a very long time client but I love the way Steve continuously updates the salon, the services, and the products. A great balance of classic style and hot new trends. Very talented stylists including my awesome stylist Rebecca Sinclair Crispin!

Steve always takes excellent care of me. He runs a very efficient and professional salon. I love the atmosphere and care he has created. I have never had to wait past my appointment time. I also love the building and decorating. For a man’s haircut, $ 40 from a professional, internationally known artist is a steal.

Rebecca is fabulous! Great colorist! No one would ever know that underneath my beautiful natural color with natural highlights from the sun look(which I had at the age of 16) is really the grey roots and dull color that comes with age. She does a fantastic job at keeping my hair looking great, beautifully blending the color as the roots continue to grow to keep a very natural look. Great personality, easy to talk to about your objectives and will completely work with you to achieve them. David… and then the best time spent while my color is processing is a massage from David!!! He is equally fabulous and has a great technique. I always leave feeling more relaxed and is equally gifted if you just want a nice relaxation massage or time spent truly focused on stress points that need real therapy attention. Very caring and so comfortable to work with. High recommended!!!

My horrific experience occurred at the end of May and beginning of June. However, it’s taken me this long to write about it without crying. Being as brief as possible, here’s the debacle that happened to me at Steve Hightower Salon… I was letting my gray grow in. I had about 2 inches in growth so it was quite visible at this point. I decided to have the old color replaced with silver gray. I thought it would be fun since it is all the rage right now. Plus, I figured it would look more natural growing in instead of having a reddish brown on the bottom of my new salt and pepper growth. My original appointment was with Brian Mayer. I went into the salon with LOTS of pictures. There was no doubt what I wanted and that Brian understood my request. He suggested going salt and pepper with silver gray instead of full silver to blend even more naturally. After a 5 hour process, I left with green hair. The kind of green that looks like a blond spent the summer in a chlorine pool. I wasn’t even sure I was seeing it properly. I thought it had to be an illusion as I was shuffled out of the salon. Once in the daylight, there was no doubt of the severe color error by Brian. I texted about the problem and was to to call for a color correction after the holiday weekend(this was memorial weekend). 2 weeks later, I was back for a «do over». This time with Milissa Larsen. This experience was even more horrifying than the 1st! She spent some time chatting with me to ensure there was no miscommunication. I showed her the original pictures plus more for good measure. She wasn’t even close! It was blond at best with a dark under layer. But the worse part, my hair was breaking off and falling out everywhere while she brushed and dried it! I told her to stop because of the breakage, and to my horror, this is what she said…“well, at least you have lots of hair so you’ll never be bald”. What?!? Then, after using a round bristled brush on me that was contributing to the massive amount of hair loss, she had the audacity to look me in the eye and say…“to prevent further breakage, don’t brush your hair when it’s wet”. I left with wet hair and in tears. I was mortified by the entire 11 hour total process as well as the $ 380+ I paid for this unacceptable treatment. I should have been refunded my money at the very least. However, what disappointed me the most was never once hearing the words«We are sorry». The owner, Steve, was in the salon on both of my visits. He never even said a word to me when clearly, his employees were unable to produce the intended results. Both stylists were untalented when trying to accomplish a silver color, unprofessional with words, and uncaring about my experience. I’m not suggesting that they are unskilled in all areas. I am just clearly stating that if you are in the market for out-of-the-ordinary creativity in color or want people that care about the results, do NOT go to this salon. This advice will save you from a horrific and unacceptable experience such as mine. I am now looking at years to get my hair back its original healthy condition. Steve Hightower salon was a waste of my money and my time.

My favorite salon — love Steve and all the staff — but gotta give a shout out to a fabulous colorist and stylist there — Melissa! She does beautiful work, has a great personality and is very easy to talk to, I highly recommend her.

Yesterday was my very first visit to this lovely salon and I couldn’t be happier with my visit! From the moment you walk in to this quaint friendly place, you know it is a welcoming environment. The salon is eclectically decorated with a mixture of antiques and modern furnishings that make it feel more like someone’s home than a business. It’s just adorable. Not only was I greeted warmly, but I didn’t have to wait but a few minutes for my appointment to start. I also appreciated the questionnaire they give you the chance to complete before your visit – it really shows that they’re interested in finding out more about you as a client. Brian was wonderful from the start. His expertise in color and the methods of cutting shorter, fine and thin hair were immediately apparent. He explained things in such a way that I felt like I had a lesson in the science of hair, which I totally loved! He clearly is not only interested in giving his clients their desired style, but making sure they understand how to achieve their best look. This is hard to find in a stylist, but I’m so glad that I finally have! Between the recommended cut, color, and specialized treatment he gave me, I feel like I walked out of there like a new woman. FINALLY, I have found the right stylist and salon after living in Atlanta all of my life! Thank you, Brian, and the rest of the Steve Hightower team! I will definitely be back! Halee R.

The receptionist was rude and basically called me a liar to my face when I checked out. I refused to respond to her because I don’t get into an argument in a public place over a silly topic, i.e., whether I asked for a phone number of a hair stylist that had left. Which I hadn’t. I would never ask for a private cell phone number of someone that I do business with.

I have been to Steve twice and am a huge fan. He is both an artist and technician. I so appreciate his vision and willingness to help me with my «aging» hair ;)

Brian is spectacular! This place is spectacular! Just what I was looking for! Perfect! I just returned to Atlanta, after leaving 5 years ago, concerned about finding the right salon… after walking into Steve Hightower HS&DS and meeting Brian, I knew I was home, done with my search for a new salon! Brian made me feel so comfortable, I new I was in good hands, plus I new the outcome would be beautiful. Sure enough, it was! I especially appreciated the questionnaire that was given prior to my consultation and introduction to my colorist. This tells me that this salon really cares about their clients.

Originally scheduled appointment with Steve, but ended up with Melissa. My hair was very dry and the color was unstable, Melissa colored my roots with my base color and balayaged low lights and the result is incredible. Steve cut my hair and Melissa styled in a way that makes me look more youthful. My hair got volume and balance that I have not seen in years. I got compliments everywhere I went. She went out of her way to also put some pink chalk in my 7 yo daughter. I highly recommend Melissa.

Conor Sea and Andi Bell are amazing. I have been here twice and always have great results. They ask you what you want done. They make recommendations and care about hair health which is important to me. Little expensive but worth the money!

So, I thought I would update my review…(the rating has not changed, but my experience was just as great!) Not only do you look great after pampering yourself there, but the staff there goes out of their way to make you feel like it’s all about you! I love Steve hands-down, but Brain is fabulous! Brain is definitely the color guru and he knows what he is talking about! He will make sure you are satisfied with your color! If you know what you want, do not hesitate to tell them! They love it when you tell them what you want and they also do not mind to go bold/different on you! I have gone in there multiple times and chopped off 6−8″ of my hair. I have seen other reviews for salon’s where it says«stylists don’t want to cut my hair short» etc, I have not had them once question what I want… I mean they enjoy trying different things as long as it is what you want…
